I'm planning on purchasing klipsch the fives (powered speakers) from amazon using a freight forwarder.

- its cheaper at USD400 (RM1,800) vs RM4,600
- it supports v220
- aware that warranty issues will be basically non-applicable here given the distance

What is y'all sifu's advice? Pursuade me to change my mind!

What I was mentioned to me recently:-
1. Site visit where we also let them know the main requirements/budget
2. ID comes out with rough quotation (ballpark figures) asks whether we are interested or not. ID offered to sketch on paper the rough design.
3. Make payment of 20%
4. They proceed with detailed 3D design (with one free redraw) and detailed quotation containing materials and exact figures
5. Make payment of 35% for materials
6. After certain progress performed on site, then subsequent payments of 35% will be made (split over 17.5%)
7. Then after site inspection - then make final 10%

Things excluded: no change to structure or architecture / no extention so no need permit from local council.

Normally what is the process like for dealing with interior designer. Is the above normal? And if you have any tips / tricks to dealing with them, it will be helpful too.

Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). It inclues all ASEAN countries, china, australia, nz, japan and korea. Tarrifs will slowly be removed over the next 10 years.

Wondering if anybody has any insight as to how it will shape our country.

- Will it be expected to grow our GDP total or per capita?
- Will Msian businesses prosper more under this? or will be feel more competition? Which industries will be the winners and losers?
- Will it affect our FDI / overseas investments?
- Is there anything the average malaysian can seek to take advantage of? Any taffic will finally be removed?

Dell monitor lifespan

Recently I had 2 ultrasharp monitors spoil 1 week apart. The first is an ultrasharp 25" 2k monitor that was purchased 5 years ago and another is an ultrasharp 27" 4k monitor that was purchased 4 years ago. Both has horizontal lines that flickers.

As they are both out of warranty, I'm not expecting any type of remedial action from Dell. But I am feeling a little disappointed about their durability. Moreover the ultrasharp is a premium line of monitors boasting good specs and quality. I had thought that purchasing a desktop over a laptop would be more affordable in the long run as you didn't need to re-purchase the monitor/keyboard/mouse when you upgrade - but apparently these monitor costs add up.

What are your experiences with Dell monitors in terms of how long they last? or alternatively: do you prefer purchasing cheaper monitors over expensive ones or vice versa?

I am in the market for a SUV, and I have narrowed it down to two choices.

First choice:

Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 2WD (2017)
Priced at RM168,700.00 without insurance.
Packed with features such as Honda sensing
Has CVT and turbo
My dad agrees with this choice

Second choice:

Mazda cx-5 2.5G 2WD (GLS)(2017)
Priced at RM165,310 without insurance
6 speed automatic
Nice interior
I think this one is slightly better looking

My hierarchy for choosing:
1) reliability
2) cost of maintenance
3) fuel economy
4) exterior
5) handling
6) interior
7) comfort
8) resell value

I want to use a car for years until it is no longer worth it to repair. I know you might be thinking, why not go for Toyota? Its because Toyota does not have one in this segment that feels remotely satisfactory and the CHR will definitely have first gen problems.

It has been reported that the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) will announce a cut in car duties for imports from Japan and Australia tomorrow (Feb 28).

The reduction would be over three years for CBU cars imported from the two countries, said MITI minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed at the investKL media breifing earlier today. He told reporters that more details on the matter will be released tomorrow.

Malaysia and Australia concluded negotiations on the Malaysia-Australia Free Trade Agreement (MAFTA) in March 2012. MAFTA entered into force on January 1, 2013. The Malaysian Insider says that Putrajaya has committed to cut duties from 15% in 2013 to 10% in 2014 and 5% in 2015 with zero duties in 2016.

Malaysia and Japan also has a free trade agreement in place. Both countries established the Malaysia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (MJEPA) in 2005. MJEPA came into force on July 13, 2006.

It states that by 2016 car import prices are to reduce to zero. And that the government cannot be anti-competitive to japanese companies.

Does this mean that jap cars has become/will become cheaper? Why don't we feel the difference? Does this mean that fully imported cars will be priced as competitive as local cars? Seems impossible, as this would only kill the local automotive industry.

Someone please enlighten me!

Buying PC for dad for his birthday!

Either a mini-PC or a mini-itx that can output to 4K 60hz! He only does light surfing/watching movies/torrenting

At first I started by choosing a skylake mini-itx board, but I realized that they all output to 4k at 24hz only, only the premium boards like Asus ROG will have 4k @ 60hz but those cost a alot.

Looking at the overall budget for this mini-ITX (around RM2,339), I started looking at off the shelf, mini pcs. Mainly the INTEL NUC 6i5SYH RM1,680. If I add a 8gb of DDR4 ram and an SSD, it will total to RM2,000.
