REDtone Launched CitiAct Contest

Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday (August 4, 2015) – Integrated telecommunications solutions provider, REDtone International Bhd (REDtone) is set to roll out a new engagement application, CitiAct that is targeted at citizens and local councils, as it moves into offering Inter of Things (IoT) services.

CitiAct is a mobile application that empowers citizens to report and track issues sent to local councils while enabling local councils to respond more effectively, efficiently and in a more transparent manner.

The mobile application, REDtone’s first IoT service, is developed by its subsidiary REDtone IOT Sdn Bhd (REDtone IOT) which has also created an IoT middleware called CitiSense to power CitiAct.

REDtone managing director Dato’ Wei Chuan Beng said there is good growth potential for IoT services with the growing usage of IoT devices such as smartphones among Malaysians.

“IoT is set to enhance the way we live and work and in time to come, many things will somehow be connected to the Internet. CitiSense utilizes IoT technology to function as a Smart City Hub to help address challenges faced in cities in the country.

“As it provides ‘sensing-as-a-service’ to anyone who wants better insights into their connected assets, business and environment, CitiSense has the potential to appeal to many parties in addition to the local councils,” he said at a media briefing on CitiAct.

IoT offerings are REDtone’s latest managed value-added services and “will provide new revenue streams for the company in FY16 while sharpening our competitive edge,” said Dato’ Wei.

He added, “We expect managed value-added services which include data centre and disaster recovery services and healthcare solutions to start contributing significantly to REDtone’s revenue and income from FY16.”

Also present at the briefing was REDtone IOT chief executive officer Dr Mazlan Abbas.

Elaborating on CitiSense, he said “It collects and aggregates data from various sensors to give valuable insights through Big Data Analysis to customers without them having to invest in any capital expenditure as it’s a subscription-based service. CitiAct is just the beginning and there are plans to introduce more IoT applications in future, all designed to create a better city.

“Via the citisense.com portal, users will be able to track the status of their report while for local councils, they are able to acknowledge reported cases, assign them to the relevant service delivery teams and to update status of the cases via the CitiAct Case Management System.”

A CitiAct Dashboard captures the performance of local authorities’ management and allows for better use of resources and more accurate planning and budgeting.

REDtone is offering a complimentary trial of a month to all local councils in the country for CitiAct. Local councils will have to contact the company to make the necessary arrangements.

CitiAct application is available free for both Android and iOS. Citizens can report on 15 issues – crime, drainage, fallen trees, faulty traffic lights, fire, flash flood, homeless people, illegal parking, landslide, mosquito breeding grounds, potholes, stray animals, unattended garbage, vandalism and water leakage.

To encourage citizens to actively participate in CitiAct and to create a better city, REDtone has organized a CitiAction Heroes contest from August 4 to October 4, 2015. Prizes totaling RM100,000 will be given away with 30 units of Huawei P8 Lite as the grand prize. There are also weekly prizes and prizes for early adopters.
