DSL monitoring in linux platform

I need help.......

Guys,

my ADSL not stable yet after reported to telekom. Many times already reported. I fed up to make another report.

I let my pc and ASDL on, for downloading using Download Manager or torrent, but, not complete in the morning, If i let my pc and ADSL on, supposely, my downloading process completed in the morning just like before. But, after i moved to another area, my ADSL always downs. At previous area, downloading 350 mb file, can completed in one night.

so, to recored what's going on , i need application that can record DSL activity, when it's down and up, and what's time, it's up and down. With the record, i want pass to telekom guys, what has happened. Sometimes, telekom guys to stupid for undestanding, what's problem actually. Maybe, with report recorded, i can forward to Consumer Tribunal. Without evidence and report, very hard to push idiot telekom.

all application, mostly in windows platform. I'm trying search , not yet found in linux platfrom. That's why i asking for help, if somebody knew the such appliction in linux platform, can record up and down and history.

sorry for broken english.

Till now, i'm not statisfied performance of unix box because of bandwith shaping and network filtering amongst client could not be control, fair share of timeouts, lag, or slow page loads. The reason is ALTQ related function was disabled. I've just found out that altq should be enable on kernel but altq support is disable by default in FreeBSD.
squid version 2.6

please give me guide/advice.....

i got different result, when i check with 'squid -z'

after setting up finished, when i try squid -z, i got output 'squid is already running! Process ID 1533'. shut down and going home. And next day working, boot up, doing nothing about configuration, and i check squid with 'squid -z', i got another output 'creating swap directories'.

search out with uncle google, what's going on about 2 different thing above, but, not satisfy and got confuse. i dont know , my squid transparent proxy was working already or something wrong elsewhere.

inside /usr/local/etc/squid , it's contain squid.conf , squid.conf.defaults and etc. For Configuration, most of instruction on the web, just configure for squid.conf. Just curious, squid.conf.defaults stand for what actually ? Should i configure too, just like configuration on squid.conf ?

somebody....

p/s : sorry for broken english. .
Streamyx w/o voice line ? Is it work ?

Just curiousity.....

if we want to talk or make a calling throught phoneline (fixed line), we need voice line. This is about techical that's i'm understood. And If we want connect to internet, we need data line. And today, we using voice and data line for 2 purpose on the same line. It's mean, if we want internet connection such as streamyx, if we are A new telekom user, we need subscribe fixed phoneline and then, we can subscribe streamyx. Without fixed phoneline, we can't subscribe streamyx. Then, We have to pay for 2 thing, if we only just want internet connection such as streamyx.

And, i got information from my friend who lived in UK, they said, UK ISP provided different line for data and voice. Just like, if we want only broadband services, we doesn't need to subscribe fixed phone line. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Scenario in malaysia, like we were cheated by ISP. We need to pay RM66.00 (streamyx basic) + RM 26.00 (fixed phone line ), and every month, we need pay RM 92.00 per month. If you lets your fixed phone line, pending payment bill for more 3 month and above, your phone line will cut off, and the same time, you streamyx will cut off too, even you streamyx account still active.

Maybe someone will give comment, that RM 26.00 per month is just for copper wire line between telekom exchange to our resident. . And if like that someone think about, all package offered by telekom malaysia, what's happened if you subscribe streamyx corporate ADSL package ? ( Are they still provide corporate DSL package ? ) Are we need to subcribe fixed phoneline firstly to get dataline for streamyx ?

And one of footnote below a list of streamyx package was " Customer is NOT ALLOWED to change the telephone number (connecting to Streamyx) before installation of service. ", and after installation for streamyx completed, and you mind to change fixed phoneline to other number, Telekom billing and technical system will going crazy in future and this thing will happened to you. ( Already happened to me )
QUOTE

your streamyx will cut off even it still active, Because our previous fixed phoneline number already terminated and your streamyx acount not refer to the new number, but refer previous number

FYI, couple years ago, i had 2 streamyx account and 2 fixedphone line. Just said as example, my first fixed phone line number is 03-xxxx 7891 refer to streamyx account 512 kbps package, and the second number is 03-xxxx 8888 refer to streamyx account 2 Mbps package. On feb 2007, i'm decided to terminated 2mbps package and 1 fixed phone line 03-xxxx 7891. I only kept fixed phone line 03-xxxx 8888 and swap 512 kbps package to this number. And Yesterday, my streamyx was cut off. ADSL was blinking. when i calling 1300 88 9515, they stilll referring my cutted off fixedphone number. That's why they cut off my active streamyx account, because my first number already terminated even though i just swap my active account to 2nd number.

and, i'm so dissappointed, because of IDIOT and STUPID TELEKOM systems, i'm still need to pay full monthly for streamys account, and never give a rebate for down time that i cant use internet access. if i want a rebate, i need to call them to claim, if faulty caused by their side or system. Why should i need to call them for rebate ? Jika saya buat salah kat kawan saya, kenapa mesti saya mintak kawan saya tu mintak maaf dari saya ?

TMNUT staff never ask "mintaf maaf" if they services like "taik lembu". Streamyx was down, and your reported to customer services, and faulty their side, they will not ask for apology for their customer like us. And never give a rebate automatically.

"en. kami pihak telekom meminta maaf disebabkan masalah teknikal yang kami hadapi buat masa sekarang ini". They will not do like that. Just voice machine bla bla for mintak maaf. Adakah itu pemintaan maaf yang bermakna dari TMNUT jika hanya machine bla bla?

they sucksssssssssss!!!!!!!!!! TMNUT PEROMPAK BERLESEN!!!!

p/s : sorry for broken english. Just wanna improve my english in writing. correct me if wrong.
Linux and Printer

All distro already tested, such as, ubuntu, kubuntu, pclinuxOS, opensuse, mandriva, freespire,Xandross,Fedora Core and ?? . Most of them not suitable with printer. All of them only good support with HP (not all hp series),but another branded printer, such as canon Lbp810, LBP 2900,,konica minolta pagepro 1350w,lexmark z32, lezmark z615 and ???. So frustated.

Already Sold canon LBP2900 and buy new one, konica minolta pp1350w. Willing to sell konica minolta pp1350w soon, and wanna buy HP. But HP price around RM 500, give it to me think twice.

I'm running PCLINUXOS 2007 TR5 distro. On printer database look like supported with Canon LBP810 and konica minolta pp 1350w also lexmark z32, but, the result was disappointed. When i printing above 5 pages of document and more, using canon LBP810 and konica minolta pp 1350w, sometime printing exercise not completed. If 10 pages, only got 7 pages. On lexmark z32 printing exercise , quality of printing item such as picture potrait, so ugly.

what should i do ?
Maybe used windows back. But i hate virus, worm and so on.

Who used printer same brand and series like myself ? and which distro are u used it ?

Which Better ? ext2 vs ext3 vs reiserFS

hi guys,

my linuxbox was installed with Distro PCLINUXOS TR5. i have 4 hardisk on it. One of harddisk as master and the rest as additional hardisks (just for data -after this, i call data harddisk ). Previously, my data harddisks (additional harddisks excluded harddisk master ) are NTFS filesystem. I'm used Distro PCLINUXOS, because, it's easy to mounted with ntfs file system. All my data harddisk already convert to ext3 filesystem. Everything nice to be mounted or unmounted with Distro PCLINUXOS . Because of new freeBSD realeased, much easier to install just like DesktopBSD 1.6 RC3, i think ,i wanna to try with DesktopBSD 1.6 RC3.Before i proceed to install, i running with live CD first. I found out, all my data hardisks was marked as NTFS file, and my Master hardisk was marked as Ext2 and Fat file system. Only ext2 can be mounted and the others fillesystem, it's failed. That's wierd to me because i still noob till today. FYI, after that problems, i have been reading bunch of articles about filesystem related with unix and linux. Both of them nothing much help for my because i got confuse. Before it, i thought unix and linux have same filesystem. If linux using file system such as ext2,ext3,reiserfs, unix also supported too. After an accident, i dont know what exactly better filesystem to be used. What type of filesystem MORE suitable for UNIX like DesktopBSD 1.6 RC3 ?

Guys, from your experience, to mounted secondary/tertiary/etc hardisk, which filesystem are u use ?

sorry for broken english.

Linux Installation Command

Till today, i'm still maintain with ubuntu linux. , even sometimes want to give up. . i found out, linux have different method to install any application ( compress tar.gz, tar.bz2, rpm, deb etc). sometimes i dont know how to recognize certain application should be install especially compress file. Uncompress file , go to directory, and configure/install/chmod -x or whatever it command.

so, a lot of time handling linux OS, i just knew 3 method command to install.

1. Such as Flashplayer file, i need configure like these.
#cd <direcotry)
#./flashplayer and follow instruction ...

2. Such as sh file, command is
#chmod -x <filename>.sh
#./<filename>.sh

3. Such as Squid application, contain three step, configure, compile and install.
#./configure
# make
# make install

Installation using sudo apt-get, synaptic manager and automatix, three of them just like windows. copy, paste and click, that's all. Simple and not so hard to newbies.

and, i would like ask favor for all linux Advanced User, Pro, Amateur and so what ever level, share you knowledge/method for linux application installation. If capable, show step by step.

i will appreciated.
