The scenario

You know a very good info about a product that most of the Malaysian use. And lets say it is available from five different supplier. But one of the supplier produce and supply the best quality BUT he cant advertise the quality he supply due to gomen restriction.
You are enjoying this best quality product from this supplier for the last 6 month and very happy with it. You wanted to share this info with rest of the Malaysian but you dont know the consequences (either the gomen will ask this supplier to stop supply this better quality product or this supplier unable to fulfil the sudden high demand). Will you still share this info with the rest of us?

Najib has most 'fake' Twitter followers

Najib has most 'fake' Twitter followers, analysis finds

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak heads a list of world leaders said to have the largest proportion of ‘fake’ Twitter followers, according to a report on the online news portal Meld Magazine.

It says 70 percent of Najib’s 1.41 million followers are fake, meaning that these followers have few followers or tweets of their own, but follow many other Twitter accounts.

Another 15 percent of Najib’s followers were found to be inactive, according to the report published on May 3, while the remaining 15 percent are believed to be genuine Twitter users.

Trailing Najib in second place is Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra (55 percent), followed by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (54 percent) in third place.

The other world personalities surveyed by the publication, which caters mainly to international students in Melbourne, are US President Barack Obama (45 percent), Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard (36 percent), Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (18 percent), Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong (14 percent) and Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung (7 percent).

Using the same tool that the magazine used - known as ‘Fake Follower Check’ - Malaysiakini found that only 51 percent of Najib’s followers are fake, and 21 percent are inactive. However, Najib’s Twitter following has since increased to 1.56 million.

It has been similarly found that Najib has the most fake Twitter followers among Malaysia’s top political leaders.

In second place is DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, with 38 percent of over 114,000 Twitter followers believed to be fake.

He is followed by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim (27 percent) and PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat (25 percent).

Use of a similar tool provided by the social analytics company Socialbakers produced similar figures, with no change in ranking among the four national leaders.

Najib had boasted during election campaigning that he represents change, because he is the youngest among the nation's top leaders and has more followers on the social media, including Twitter.

However, questions may be raised regarding the methodology of both online tools.

According to Fake Follower Check’s website, its tool is ‘very accurate’ for accounts with fewer than 50,000 followers, but beyond that, it said ‘the tool will still provide good insight but may better reflect your current follower activity rather than your whole follower base’.

Socialbakers says its tool has a margin of error of about 10-15 percent.

‘Easy to purchase followers’

Regardless of potential flaws in methodology, social media expert Thomas Tudehope has reportedly said Twitter users can easily purchase followers - anywhere between 100 to 10,000 at a time and - and at varying prices.

However, Tudehope said, the politicians in question or their representatives would rarely make the decision to purchase the followers themselves.

“Someone might have deliberately purchased followers for them … politicians have a busy schedule so I don’t think they’ve got time to keep track of fake accounts,” Meld Magazine quoted him saying.

Tudehope, who is a former adviser to an Australian shadow minister for communications and broadband, also reportedly said that the most accurate measure of influence is engagement.

“It’s all about the conversations they’re being involved in and how many responses they receive,” he said.

“I think the trick is to put out more content, more often, to all kinds of different people. It’s a simple strategy and one that I think works quite well.”

AirAsia boss 'glad' after MAS deal failed

AirAsia boss 'glad' after MAS deal failed
AFP
4:35PM Jun 15, 2012

AirAsia boss Tony Fernandes has called the collapse of a tie-up with struggling flag carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS) a relief that will free him up to focus on his fast-growing budget carrier.

In his most extensive comments to date on the failed deal, Fernandes said in interviews published today that “massive” Malaysia Airlines union resistance was to blame and implied that the carrier had deep problems to resolve.

“I was off blood pressure pills as soon as the swap was off. I’m serious,” he told The Edge business daily.

“Sometimes you need a bit of a kick up your backside. When we have built fantastic operations at AirAsia, we didn’t appreciate it until we (saw) something else,” he said.

His comments appear two days after AirAsia announced it is setting up a strategic planning centre in Indonesia, away from its Malaysian headquarters, with Fernandes expected to lead expansion of regional operations from there.

AirAsia had agreed in August last year to buy 20.5 percent of Malaysia Airlines under a strategic tie-up aimed at turning around the national carrier.

But the share swap deal was pulled early last month after pressure from Malaysia Airlines’ powerful employees union, who feared job cuts and other cost-reducing moves.

Fernandes said Malaysia Airlines’ problems could have been fixed under the tie-up.

“Yes, there will be short-term pain but you have to make the business successful as you cannot be on life-support,” he told The Star newspaper..

“(But) you reach a point of why waste time talking?... I’m glad it’s over,” he added.

With Fernandes moving to Indonesia the airline will announce on Monday a replacement to head its Malaysia operations.

Keen on succession plan

Fernandes said he would “still be heavily involved in the day-to-day running of the airline” and “not leaving anytime soon” but was keen on a succession plan.

The former music executive took over the airline a decade ago and turned it from an ailing outfit with two planes into one of the region’s biggest success stories.

Last month, AirAsia posted a 4.0 percent increase in first-quarter net profit with the company citing a solid business model as the reason. It also posted a record quarter revenue of RM1.17 billion (US$367 million).

Malaysia Airlines, on the other hand, reported its fifth consecutive loss, amounting to RM171.8 million for the quarter ended March 31.

- AFP
