Three people, including two children, have died after their throats were slit by glass-coated strings used for flying kites on India's Independence Day.

Saanchi Goyal, 3, and Harry, 4, were looking out through the sunroof of their cars in different parts of Delhi when sharp strings slit their throats.

Zafar Khan, 22, died in the same manner when he was riding his motorbike.

Glass-coated strings are used to bring down competitors' kites, but they also end up injuring and killing people.

Many Indians fly kites to celebrate festivals and important occasions like the Independence Day, which is celebrated on 15 August.

But every year, there are reports of people dying or getting wounded from the kite strings - locally known as manja - treated with powdered glass or metal to sharpen them.

Similar strings killed a five-year-old boy in 2015 in the northern town of Moradabad, and a five-year-old girl died in Jaipur in 2014.

These strings also kill and maim hundreds of birds annually - at least 500 birds have been admitted to the Charity Birds Hospital in Delhi in the past three days alone, Indian media reports say. The hospital says it treats up to 8,000 birds every year.

On Monday, a policeman in Delhi was also injured from a sharpened string.

The Delhi government has now banned the use of sharpened manja to fly kites and promised to run campaigns to educate people about the dangers of using such strings.

Authorities said the sale, production and storage of nylon, plastic or any other glass or metal-coated manja would be prohibited in the capital city and those who violated the ban would have to pay a penalty of 100,000 rupees ($1,495; £1,148) and could be jailed for up to five years.

Malaysian wage is so low

If you look at Mudah(jobs) and other career website,you'll noticed that wage in malaysia is really low. Most ungraduate jobs wage is in the range of RM 900 - 1500. Even if you're a graduate degree,the starting income is still surprisingly low. Before you bash me or anything,keep in my that with those wage.It's enough money just to survive in the city.

Rents/food/transportation is could actually consume most of your income to a point it's just barely enough to survive.It's hard to strive in Malaysia with those wage,because surviving isn't living.Because I believe the price of everything in Malaysia is increasing but our wage still stuck.

Malaysia is Crowned The Worst Taxi Drivers in the World

It’s always an amazing feeling to know your country is at the top of a list, beating other countries. It’s a feeling like no other. We get a sense of pride as a Malaysian, knowing that our country is actually at the top of something.

However, that pride is short-lived when you find out Malaysia is at the top of the list, for the worst taxi drivers in the world.

Quite recently, Malaysia has been crowned first place in a list of 10 countries that have the worst taxi drivers across the globe.

The list was compiled by British comparison site, LondonCabs.co.uk

who published it on their website which was rather popular among individuals who often use taxis to commute.

Tourists who travel to a said country also often venture the website to see what form of transportation would be best for the country they are visiting.

Some of the factors taken into consideration when compiling this list and deciding if a taxi service is bad include language constraints, credibility, the attitude of the taxi drivers and issues concerning taxi fares.

Fortunately, Malaysia is not the only Asian city in the list as Bangkok, Shanghai and Mumbai join our ranks.

Mitsubishi have cheated on mileage tests for 25 yr

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese car maker Mitsubishi Motors Corp (7211.T) said on Tuesday it used fuel economy testing methods that did not comply with Japanese regulations for 25 years, much longer than previously known.

It said aggressive internal targets may have put pressure on employees to overstate the fuel economy of its vehicles, and would set up an external committee to investigate the matter.

Japan's sixth-largest automaker has lost half its market value - some $3.9 billion (£2.6 billion) - since it admitted last week to manipulating test data for four domestic mini-vehicle models, including two it produced for Nissan Motor Co .

It has also said that more models may have used tests non-compliant with Japanese standards, prompting concern about ballooning potential compensation costs and fines. The U.S auto safety regulator is also seeking information, while Japanese authorities have raided one of the company's research and development facilities.

Mitsubishi Motors said it used appropriate testing methods on vehicles sold in the United States, and had no indications of data manipulation in vehicles sold in other overseas markets.

It said it had been submitting non-compliant data to Japan's transport ministry since 1991. It previously said such non-compliance went back only to at least 2002.

Ryugo Nakao, executive vice president, said Japanese regulations changed in 1991 to require testing methods to better reflect stop-and-go urban driving, but Mitsubishi Motors did not follow that rule change. "We should have switched, but it turns out we didn't," he said.

A committee of external experts will report the results of its investigation in three months, he said.

Nakao added that repeatedly raised internal fuel economy targets during the development of the affected models may have contributed to the cheating. "Judging by what the investigations have shown so far, it seems there was pressure," he told reporters.

Another executive, Koji Yokomaku, said Mitsubishi Motors raised its fuel economy targets five times in two years while developing the mini-vehicles, reaching 29.2 km (18.14 miles) per litre from an initial target of 26.4 kms per litre.

Chief Operating Officer Tetsuro Aikawa, who was on the engineering team that developed the original eK Wagon, said he had no idea the fuel economy readings were being falsified. "I was totally unaware this was happening," he said. "It's a problem that this issue didn't come up until now."

FASTER TEST

The automaker has said it compiled data for fuel economy tests using U.S. standards, where higher-speed, highway driving is common, rather than Japanese standards, where more prevalent city driving commonly consumes more fuel. Mitsubishi Motors said the U.S. testing method may have been used as it is shorter and would save time.

Japan’s transport ministry said it found irregularities with the way Mitsubishi Motors compiled mileage data on models in addition to the four affected mini-vehicles. It said it wanted an explanation for this from the company by May 11.

The ministry earlier said it set up a task force to examine how other automakers submit fuel economy data. Last week, it ordered other domestic automakers to submit fuel economy test data by May 18.

The misconduct has revived memories of a scandal more than 15 years ago in which Mitsubishi Motors admitted systematically covering up customer complaints for more than two decades, bringing the company close to collapse. It was bailed out by other Mitsubishi Group companies.

Senior officials at other Mitsubishi firms say it would be difficult for them to help the car maker this time, if needed, as they face their own financial squeeze, as well as calls to put shareholder returns above ties with the former Mitsubishi business empire.

Takehiko Kakiuchi, President and CEO of trading group Mitsubishi Corp , told Reuters he as "aghast" at the scandal engulfing its sister company.

1MDB is the reason for Terengganu MB losing title

KUALA LUMPUR: The Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA) is being expanded to a federal entity called 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) with the aim of investing billions of ringgit in energy, real estate and hospitality sectors in the country, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office.

It was earlier proposed that the TIA would raise RM11bil for investments, of which RM5bil were to be government-guaranteed bonds while RM6bil were bonds to be collateralised by oil royalty payments to the state of Terengganu.

The King, who is also the Sultan of Terengganu, has consented to the arrangement. The new entity will be wholly-owned by Ministry of Finance Inc and will report directly to the Prime Minister. The Cabinet has also given its approval in principle.

The statement said more details would be released in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, 1MDB will invest in collaboration with Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Development Co, which has expressed interest in investing US$1bil in those sectors.

According to the statement, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he had fruitful talks with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince General Sheikh Mohamed Zayed Al-Nahyan during his one-day private visit to Abu Dhabi. In the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed Zayed, who is also chairman of Mubadala Development, a sovereign wealth fund wholly-owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi, expressed interest to invest US$1bil in energy, real estate and hospitality sectors across Malaysia via Mubadala, in partnership with a Malaysian sovereign wealth fund.

“To advance further and make this investment work, the Government has decided for TIA to be expanded into a federal-based sovereign wealth fund to be known as 1Malaysia Development Bhd for its benefits to be felt across Malaysia,’’ Najib said in the statement.

“1MDB is to drive sustainable, long-term economic development for Malaysia by forging strategic global partnerships and promoting foreign direct investment (FDI) for Malaysia to further enhance the multiplier effects for the Malaysian economy.”

1MDB, which will be run on the concept of matching FDIs, will be a fund that in essence looks to invest in companies that have equity value on a stock exchange but have a high mulitiplier effect on growth.

By becoming a sovereign wealth fund, 1MDB will have Malaysia as its priority instead of just one state, according to a source. It puts all states on equal footing at a time when there are a couple of states that are tinkering with the idea of establishing their own state-based investment funds.

Establishing the 1MDB will also do away with the Government to provide further guarantees for other state-based funds.

1MDB would take over the cash already raised by TIA and allow Terengganu to continue using its oil royalities in its traditional manner, the source added.

Although 1MDB reports directly to the Prime Minister, the sovereign fund will still have an eight-member board of advisors and a five-member board of directors.

The directors would be from established statutory bodies and would allow those funds to participate in investments made by 1MDB if they chose to do so, the source said.

KUCHING: The Sarawak government will not lift the ban on opposition leaders and activists from entering the state, says Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

“They can come here after the state election. I have to protect the interests of Sarawak from unsavoury elements. Political or otherwise, it is my job as chief minister,” he said yesterday.

Adenan will not be lifting the ban on the Opposition anytime soon.

“You know that there will be no lifting, but they (opposition party leaders) have the liberty to come to Sarawak anytime – after the elections,” he said.

On whether he would impose a ban on any Umno leader, he said he had already imposed a ban on people like Datuk Ibrahim Ali and Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, although they were not from the party.

Adenan, who is PBB president, also said he would continue to allow federal ministers to enter the state as they were helping Barisan Nasional at the state level.

“I don’t see them as liability. If people see them as liability, it is their opinion,” he said.

Adenan regretted that there were people who were questioning his autonomous right of the state to ban people.

“I regret that these people question our autonomous right to ban people from coming in. For example, the Wanita PKR chief (Zuraida Kamaruddin) has been denied entry into Sarawak for the third time. She had questioned our right,” he added.

So far, more than 30 people, mostly opposition leaders, such as Tony Pua and Teo Nie Ching of DAP, Rafizi Ramli and Nurul Izzah Anwar of PKR and Mohamad Sabu of Amanah have been banned from entering Sarawak.

TUN Dr Mahathir Mohamad may be committing sedition by going against the Constitution to get the royalty involved in the bid to remove the Prime Minister from power, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

Responding to a question about the former prime minister saying that he would be urging the royals nationwide to press for Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to step down, Nur Jazlan asked: “Isn’t that a seditious matter?

“He is saying to the public that he is going beyond the Constitution. Isn’t this country governed by the Constitution?

“The more he talks, the more mistakes he will make and there will be more items for the police to investigate. If there’s proof that he has contravened the law, we will take action,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

Asked if the Government was giving leeway to Dr Mahathir because of his former position, Nur Jazlan said that was not the case.

“If he goes on saying things that can trigger an offence, for example, under the Sedition Act, we will take action.

“But for now, we treat it like a political stunt,” he added.

Nur Jazlan also said that PKR’s Rafizi Ramli might face charges if it was found that he did indeed release an excerpt from the Auditor-General’s report on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), which had been classified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

Nur Jazlan, however, did not want to specify the possible charge that the Pandan MP might face.

“Let the police investigate first, we have to make sure it’s under the OSA,” he said.

According to Section 8 of the OSA, a person found guilty of exposing an official secret could be jailed up to seven years.

On Monday, Rafizi revealed details from what he claimed was an excerpt of the AG’s report on 1MDB in his bid to prove that the firm was partly to blame for delays in the Armed Forces Fund Board’s gratuity payments.
