A-G: I am also a product of inter-racial marriage

Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail has refuted an article which reported him as saying that inter-racial marriages put national harmony at risk.

A-G: I am also a product of inter-racial marriage

Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail has hit out at an English newsportal today for claiming that he had said inter-racial marriages put national harmony at risk.
The article titled “Interracial marriages put national harmony at risk, A-G says” alleged that Abdul Gani linked such marriages to “harming national harmony”.
The article has garnered various comments from netizens particularly on Facebook, with many hitting out at the A-G for making the statement.
However, when contacted by The Rakyat Post, he said: “Even I am a product of an interracial marriage. My wife too is a product of inter-racial marraige.
“The portal must retract the article.

“Newsportals must not tarnish people’s image by spinning a story like this. They must read the material in proper context and not spin it,” he added firmly.

The report was based on Abdul Gani’s speech text at the ILKAP National Law Conference 2014, titled “Law and Social Order: Current challenges in Malaysia” recently.

In his speech, Abdul Gani stated that “Interracial marriages have given a rise to a new conflict between the civil law and Syariah law in relation to the unilateral conversion as well as custody issues of minor children where only one spouse converts to Islam.
“The increasing number of cases has also raised allegations of racial discrimination by the courts and authorities.”
He then mentions in that regard, “the failure of the converting spouses to resolve the family arrangements prior to conversion and in fact, attempting to use the different jurisdictions of the civil and Syariah courts to their advantage, jeopardises not only family harmony, but potentially national harmony”.

Meanwhile, checks by The Rakyat Post at press time found that the article on the newsportal’s website had been removed.

Read more: http://www.therakyatpost.com/news/2014/11/.../#ixzz3Jbq6ktcX

Doctors in S.L admit the are defeated by ebola,

Acknowledging a major “defeat” in the fight against Ebola, international health officials battling the epidemic in Sierra Leone approved plans on Friday to help families tend to patients at home, recognizing that they are overwhelmed and have little chance of getting enough treatment beds in place quickly to meet the surging need.

The decision signifies a significant shift in the struggle against the rampaging disease. Officials said they would begin distributing painkillers, rehydrating solution and gloves to hundreds of Ebola-afflicted households in Sierra Leone, contending that the aid arriving here was not fast or extensive enough to keep up with an outbreak that doubles in size every month or so.

“It’s basically admitting defeat,” said Dr. Peter H. Kilmarx, the leader of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s team in Sierra Leone, adding that it was “now national policy that we should take care of these people at home.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/11/world/af...?referrer=&_r=0

--------------

Has Malaysia suspended all flights from Guinea/Sierra Leone/Liberia already? Time to start imposing very strict policies for arrivals from Africa

DUBAI: CROWN PRINCE TO MARRY FORMER STREET GIRL

28-year-old Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the crown prince of Dubai, announced this morning his engagement to Kalila Said, a Palestinian refugee who grew up in the streets of a shantytown near the Arab metropolis. The second-oldest son of ruler Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met the 23-year old woman while working on a charity project in March of last year in one of the capital’s disadvantaged neighbourhoods and the two have rapidly developed a symbiotic relationship.

Sheikh Hamdan’s love life has been the object of much speculation over the years . He remained in a monogamous and serious relationship with one of his half-cousisns from 2008 to 2013, despite the fact that he was engaged to his cousin Sheikha Sheikha Al Maktoum. This relationship ended sourly however in January 2013, just few months before the Prince met his new love. His arranged marriage has also recently been cancelled for reasons that were not made public.

This charming Prince was a well known “lady’s prize” for a long time. He not only writes poetry, but he is also passionate about horses. Affectionately known as Fazza, meaning “the courageous,” the name under which he publishes his poetry, he is known for his strong penchant for fast cars and skydiving. He is a graduate from the Sandhurst Royal Military Academy and also attended the London School of Economics and Political Science. Prince Hamdan even won a team gold medal at the 15th Asian Games in 2006 in a horseback riding competition. He also owns an incredible collections of camels, and he once paid US$4.5 million for 16 beautiful specimens at a camel beauty pageant in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Handsome, brave and quixotic: what more could a girl ask for?

Well despite Hamdan’s status and good looks, he had to court the young woman with insistence for over three months before she accepted to start seeing him. The recipient of a Royal scholarship for exceptional merit and psychology graduate from the American Universtiy of Dubai did however end up succumbing to the Prince’s charm and the two rapidly became almost inseparable.

According to rumors circulating in the country, Hamdan’s father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, threatened last November to disinherit his son if he pursued the relationship, but to no avail. The young man chose love over his title and situation, bringing his father to reconsider his position. The Sheikh finally seems to have accepted the situation and even gave his blessing to the new couple.

- See more at: http://worldnewsdailyreport.com/dubai-crow...h.BLuJcew6.dpuf

Airport Stall Overcharged RM.4

Shop fined Rs 50 lakh for charging Rs 75 extra on drink

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/ch...ow/34650970.cms?

CHENNAI: That October morning in 2009, a vendor at Chennai airport decided to make an extra Rs 75. (RM 4.05) Five years later, he may be poorer by Rs 50 lakh. (RM 269685)

Charging a customer double for an energy drink has attracted a strong censure from the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) and a fine of Rs50 lakh for the vendor- Snack Bar, a unit of Saptagiri Restaurant.

NCDRC lambasted Snack Bar for having collected Rs150 for a can of Red Bull from Delhi resident D K Chopra, while the retail price was Rs75. It also came down heavily on airport authorities who it said were "working in cahoots" with stall owners to obtain higher rates for licences. The commission directed the stall owner also to pay Rs10,000 to Chopra.

Chopra bought the drink at the airport in October 2009. Unhappy over being charged almost double, he issued a legal notice, but the stall-owner did not reply. Chopra then moved the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum (DCDRF) for a compensation of Rs2 lakh for "harassment and mental agony," and Rs11,000 as "travel and legal expenses." But the forum dismissed his complaint.

Chopra then filed a first appeal in the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (SCDRC). This too was dismissed on the grounds that he had failed to prove the MRP of the product. He submitted two receipts for purchasing the drinks, which were not signed by the owner.

He approached the NCDRC. Counsel for Snack Bar said they were entitled to collect twice the MRP and submitted a letter from the deputy general manager, commercial at Chennai international airport. The letter mentioned the price of "imported juice/energy drink" as Rs140.

Questioning the logic of its classification as a juice, it said "by no stretch of imagination Red Bull can be called an imported juice energy drink." "Such a price list can be created any time and has exiguous value," said the commission. It also said the letter did not have endorsement from the Airports Authority of India. "Even if it is assumed that AAI had given permission, they are not empowered to do so. AAI cannot disturb MRP rates," the commission said. Stating a snack joint was "like a tea/ beedi stall," it said a person could not be forced to pay the prices which have been prescribed for restaurants.
The demonstrators were forced to reroute past the church after the march encountered a sitting protest on the planned route.

The Swedish Church, the Pentecostal congregations, the Salvation Army, and the Catholic Church in Jönköping welcomed members to an outdoor service, with Muslims and Hindus also in attendance.

The service had been planned at the last minute, Hollertz said, which meant they did not have time to organize an official inter-religious ceremony, but the organizers told non-Christians that they were welcome to attend.

"We were right in the heart of what was going on," Hollertz said. "It was a good atmosphere, we had fighting spirit, but many people were of course very distressed and some were afraid."

The Jönköping church bells haven't been used to warn of danger since Wold War II broke out in 1939.

Hollertz said many of his congregation members and Jönköping residents at large had decided to stay clear of the neo-Nazi march last year.

"But this year we felt we couldn't be silent," he said.

A passage from Leviticus was part of the service: "When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt."

Europe has been plagued with the recent emergence of neo-Nazis, with sizeable numbers of citizens in France, Sweden, Poland and even Germany, where it is very risky to have any open symbols referring to the Nazis, coming out to pledge allegiance to Hitler's dream of a pure Aryan race.
http://www.khaleejtimes.com/kt-article-dis...n=nationgeneral

UAE ranks No. 1 globally for treating women with respect

The index is designed as an objective and transparent measure that is more holistic than relying only on economic indicators to judge a country’s overall well-being.

The United Arab Emirates ranks number one in the world for treating women with respect, according to a major scientific study comparing development and well-being among 132 nations of the world.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said the evidence on respect for women reflected fundamental truths about Emirati culture and traditions.

“We have the deepest respect for women. We respect their sacrifices and their dedication as partners in the building of our nation. In many sectors they have been able to contribute more than men because UAE society gives women a supportive environment to achieve their full potential. Their contributions have outweighed those of men in many sectors, and this reflects the supportive environment that the UAE has always provided for women.”

The global Social Progress Index also ranked the UAE as number one for the lowest level of violent crime, the lowest homicide rate, the lowest undernourishment rate, and the highest rate of enrolment in secondary education.

The report was produced by a team of prominent international economists led by Professor Michael Porter of Harvard Business School, as part of an initiative launched by the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council.

The index is designed as an objective and transparent measure that is more holistic than relying only on economic indicators to judge a country’s overall well-being. It includes 54 measures that track the capacity of a society to meet the basic human needs of its citizens, to establish the building blocks that allow citizens and communities to enhance and sustain the quality of their lives, and to create the conditions for all individuals to reach their full potential.

For the index as a whole, the UAE ranked number one in the Middle East and 37th worldwide.

Aspiring Indian politician makes 500,000 RM

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/home/lo...ow/33835742.cms

LUCKNOW/VARANASI: In 24 hours after Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal tweeted appealing to people to donate "clean money" for election campaign in Varanasi and Amethi, the party received more than Rs 80 lakh donation online from across the world. Of the total sum, Rs 16 lakh was donated by people in UP including Rs 2.10 lakh and Rs 2.50 lakh specifically for Amethi and Varanasi, respectively.

The AAP has been facing financial crunch in the Lok Sabha elections. At 7.38 pm on Tuesday, Kejriwal tweeted "Reached Varanasi. Will go to Amethi on 20th. Need clean money to fight Modi and Rahul. Pl sms me if u wish to donate." It was retweeted by his over 1,700 followers within a few hours. Donations started pouring in and till 7.38 pm on Wednesday, the amount collected in 24 hours was Rs 81.10 lakh donated by over 600 people. The minimum donation was Rs 1 and maximum Rs 50 lakh. was donated by one Natasha, resident of Delhi. While several donated Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000, majority donations were between Rs 500 and Rs 5,000. In India, most of the donors were from Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. International donors were mainly from UAE, US, UK and Canada.

"Besides Kejriwal's appeal, volunteers have launched an aggressive campaign on social media for donation," said Sudhir Bhardwaj, AAP, UP, spokesperson.

This has come as a relief for Kejriwal who has been struggling for support in Varanasi where he has challenged BJP prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha election. His close associate Kumar Vishwas is contesting against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Amethi.

Both have been running a low profile and low cost campaign in their respective constituencies. Vishwas started his campaign four months in advance and has been able to build a strong network in Amethi. Kejriwal, however, announced his candidature on March 25 and began effective campaigning from Tuesday (April 16). Amethi will go to polls on May 7 and Varanasi on May 12.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh, also camping in Varanasi, told media persons that the party had adopted the cheapest mode of election campaign due to fund crunch. To save money, the party is depending on interactive sessions in rural areas, street meetings, door-to-door campaign and social media for election campaign. The party is also webcasting public meetings of Kejriwal.

The party, however, is also struggling for support. Kejriwal's interactive meetings in urban and rural areas are not getting encouraging response in Varanasi as they did in Delhi.

Former central information commissioner O P Kejriwal and Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati have refused to support Kejriwal.

AAP has been facing financial crunch in polls. At 7.38 pm on Tuesday, Kejriwal tweeted "Reached Varanasi. Will go to Amethi on 20th. Need clean money to fight Modi and Rahul. Pl sms me if u wish to donate."
Post a comment
