Tim Ho Wan - Close shop because Muslim dont eat

Hong Kong-based two Michelin-star restaurant Tim Ho Wan which operated two outlets in Malaysia since April 2014, has ceased all operations in the country as of July 3, 2017 after incurring RM895,642 in losses for the year.
According to Penang-based food and beverage firm Texchem Resources Bhd, it was impossible for their business to turn around in the near future due to the challenging situation.

While Texchem said they will provide updates on the matter upon assessment, Mak Kwai Pui, the owner of the restaurant has insinuated racism by blaming the Muslim-majority population for its shutdown.
Local press in Hong Kong claim the Hong Kong businessman stating that having a Chinese restaurant in Malaysia is like “operating a sauna business in a remote desert.”
He also said the business failed because Muslims “don’t eat pork”, as pork is found in dim sum dishes like BBQ pork bun and shao mai (steamed pork dumpling).
His statement clearly did not sit well with Chinese Malaysians who argued they do love pork, which led to comments about the business strategy to the food served
itself.

Chinese Cross-Border Question and Answer project, interviewed Malaysian-Chinese journalist Wan Qing who claims, “The price of Tim Ho Wan is too high, the quality of food is so and so, service is poor and the flavours of the dishes were not localised.”
Qing also pointed out the diverse food options in Malaysia, with other dim sum competitors that have a larger customer base, even when they sell pork.
“You can find BBQ pork bun everywhere at food stands. The selling point of ‘steam upon order’ is not appealing in Malaysia as the food culture is so diverse and dishes are always freshly cooked.
“How come it has not been suffered from a lack of customers because of Muslim pork-less food culture?,” Qing questioned.

Despite Qing admitting that Malaysia is embroiled in religious conflicts every now and then, Qing emphasised it has nothing to do with the closure of Tim Ho Wan.
“It is more genuine and convincing to say that [Tim Ho Wan's] BBQ pork bun failed to cater to customers’ tastes than to say that Malaysians cannot eat BBQ pork bun [because of Muslim culture].
“I would say, please do not project your stereotypes onto the imaginary other and do more homework for your business strategy,” he concluded.
Tim Ho Wan is Hong Kong’s most popular dim sum restaurants after its original Mong Kok branch was featured in the 2010 Michelin Guide as the cheapest starred restaurant in the world.

SOS

Bufori is a brand of hand-built automobiles inspired by American 1930s coupes. The company is owned by three Australian Lebanese brothers Anthony, George and Gerry Khouri. In 1986, Gerry Khouri began to build three special sports cars in his garage, one each for the three brothers, which led to the formation of the company. The name Bufori is an acronym that stands for B - Beautiful, U - Unique, F - Funtastic, O - Original, R - Romantic, I - Irresistible.[1]

The Bufori Motor Car Company Pty. Ltd. is a proprietary company limited by shares and registered in Australia, as is the Bufori Motor Car Company (M) Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia. Originally, all of the manufacturing and sales operations were conducted in Australia, but in 1998 full production moved to new facilities in Kepong, a suburb of Kuala Lumpur, in Malaysia.

The production facility in Kuala Lumpur has an installed capacity of 300 vehicles per year, and the company employs 108 skilled craftsmen. Each unit is built by hand using traditional techniques in a 25-step production process. The body of a Bufori is made out of carbon fibre and Kevlar composite material, which is light and ultra-strong. Every Bufori is made to order and can be customised according to the owner's wishes.

The Bufori MKI, MKII and MKIII La Joya are displayed at the Malaysian National Automotive Museum based at the Sepang International Circuit since 2003.

Racist Singapork

Taken from MSN

Last year, when Darius Cheung, co-founder of a property search portal, wanted to rent a house in Singapore, he met with many reluctant real estate agents. Many of them seemed interested at first, but would turn him down later. He found out why when one realtor gave him a rather shocking response: “Sorry your wife is Indian, [the] landlord won’t rent to you.”

Indians who have spent some time in the city-state know that they aren’t the first choice as tenants for many landlords, though Chinese people from the mainland have it even worse: they are said to be the least preferred by Singapore’s property owners.

That was evident from a quick search with the keywords “No Indians, no PRC (People’s Republic of China)” on two property websites. Gumtree.sg turned up 29 announcements with these words and PropertyGuru showed 63.

On the face of it, this would seem to be evidence of racial disharmony in a country where the government imposes a harsh penalty on instances of racial prejudice. But many see the discrimination in the rental market as an expression of the clash between the old and the new—the discomfort of the country’s long-time citizens with the influx of foreigners in the multi-ethnic, wealthy country.

Who are the Indians?

“There is discrimination against all South Asians, even though the listings often specify ‘No Indians,’” said Cheung, whose search engine 99.co introduced a new filter in July—All Races Welcome—as part of its “Regardless of Race” campaign. The prejudice against Indian tenants may spring from the stereotype that they are unsanitary. This drive aims to encourage agents and landlords in Singapore to indicate that their rental listings are open to all, regardless of the “ethnicity, background, or nationality” of potential tenants.

In Singapore, “Indians” is a catch-all term for all those perceived to be of South-Asian descent. For instance, a BBC report in May 2014 described how an immigrant of Sri Lankan descent searching for a home was rejected outright by several landlords for being “Indian.”

The prejudice against Indian tenants may spring from the stereotype that they are unsanitary and leave rented properties in a poor state. For instance, in July, The Independent, an online news platform in Singapore, reported that a departing Indian family left behind a dirty home, besides defaulting on the rent and other bills.

“Stories like this circulate and create a certain impression about a community,” said Ravi Philomen, a Singaporean of Indian descent who is also a human rights activist and a member of the opposition Singapore People’s Party. “There are similar stories about the Chinese from the mainland. It is said that the Chinese fail to get along with neighbours in government housing” blocks that have common areas.

Even American and British citizens of South Asian and mainland Chinese descent are often rejected by Singapore’s landlords, the BBC reported.

“These are some of the experiences in a society where people of different nationalities, each with their own world views and cultural prejudices, live in close proximity,” said Philomen.

Old and new

Singapore has many second or third-generation citizens of South Asian origin who are often referred to as “locals.” Most of this old South Asian population are descendants of early immigrants who migrated generations ago, in the 1800s, from the Indian subcontinent, primarily from south Indian states (Tamil Nadu, in particular) and from what is now Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Since the mid-2000s, thanks to changes in immigration policies, Singapore’s foreign population has boomed. In the first decade of the 21st century, the country’s non-resident population accounted for 25.7% of the total, in contrast to 18.7% in the previous decade, according to a 2012 report by the Migration Policy Institute.
As per 2015 estimates, “Indians” comprise 9.1% of Singapore’s 3.9-million strong resident population.
The population of permanent residents grew at an average of 8.4% a year between 2005 and 2009. By contrast, the number of Singaporean citizens grew at a modest 0.9%.

Even though the annual growth of permanent residents fell to 1.5% in 2010, the government’s immigration policies have sparked concern from some locals who complain that the country’s infrastructure is inadequate for the growing population. Chinese and Indian nationals, being present in large numbers in Singapore, often evoke disquiet.

As per 2015 estimates, “Indians” comprise 9.1% of Singapore’s 3.9-million strong resident population, which includes both citizens and permanent residents. The total population, including non-residents, is 5.53 million.

Racial harmony, a government initiative

Some Singaporeans think that when those perceived as Indian and Chinese are rejected in the housing market, it tends to be an expression of the local population’s discomfort with foreigners’ lifestyles and habits.

“This [discrimination in Singapore’s housing market] is not a matter of racial prejudice,” Philomen said.

After Singapore’s independence in 1965, the government initiated proactive ethnic integration policies, such as a minority quota in government housing, to ensure the peaceful co-existence of different races.

For instance, July 21 is celebrated annually as Racial Harmony Day.

Philomen said the government’s racial integration policies largely succeeded in controlling sentiments of racial prejudice in Singaporean society.

In 2011, when a Chinese family, which had moved to Singapore recently, objected to the smell of curry emanating from the premises of their Indian neighbours, it resulted in an online furore. Many Singaporeans—the majority of whom are ethnically Chinese—rebuked the insensitivity of the Chinese family and hailed curry as an integral part of Singapore’s multi-racial culture. Netizens even created Facebook groups to celebrate cooking “a pot of curry”, according to AsiaOne, an online portal of Singapore Press Holdings.

However, even though the relationship between the country’s main racial groups—Chinese, Malays, and Indians—appears cordial on the surface, incidents of racial prejudice against minority groups are not completely unknown, as this report in the Straits Times notes.

In 2013, for instance, the accidental death of a South Asian labourer in Little India, who was run over by a bus, led to a riot in which property was damaged and more than 60 security officials and civilians were hurt. Though the riot was not race-related, racial slurs against foreign workers were hurled online in its aftermath.

The discrimination in the rental market comes with a caveat. Real estate agents say landlords’ reluctance in renting out to South Asians and other ethnic groups is less common in Singapore’s upscale properties. “This is a much smaller issue as you go towards luxury apartments of $10k rent per month and above,” said Cheung.

The over-supply of housing and the vacancies in the rental market are also expected to alleviate landlords’ racial prejudice. The search portal 99.co observes that 2016 has been a tough year for Singapore’s rental market, with vacancy rates hovering at around 8% and rental prices sliding.

“We have seen the number of ‘All races welcome’ listings rise from zero to over 2,500 [as of the end of July] since we launched the campaign,” Cheung said.

This post first appeared on Scroll.in.
For Honor (PS4)

For Honor is a hack and slash video game in development by Ubisoft Montreal and set to be published by Ubisoft for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It was announced at the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo. The game features a hand-to-hand combat system described as "The Art of Battle" by the developers and allows players to play the roles of historical soldiers such as medieval knights, samurai, and Vikings.

Gameplay

For Honor is a non-fantasy hack and slash video game set during the medieval period. Players can play as a character from three different factions, namely The Legion, The Chosen, and The Warborn. The three factions represent knight, samurai, and Vikings, respectively. Different classes have different abilities and weapons, and customization will be available for players. For instance, the gender of the characters, and the armor worn by them, can be changed and customized.

Players fight against each other with melee-weapons such as axes and swords. The game features competitive multiplayer modes that can support up to eight players, who will be split evenly into two different teams. When a match starts, players will be accompanied by numerous AI teammates, who assist players. Points, both temporarily and permanent, can be earned in a match. When one team earns enough points, they must eliminate the players from the other team. Once all the players from the other team are eliminated, the match ends. When players kill a certain amount of enemies consecutively, they can level up, and gain Feats, which are additional perks. These perks allow players to gain additional points and strengths, call in a barrage of arrows or a catapult attack, or heal themselves.

A tactical combat system, known as "Art of Battle", is introduced in the game. Players enter a dueling mode with another player wherein players aim at their opponent with their swords. Players can choose how to place and position their weapons when they are attacking their enemies. Players can choose from three directions, from above, the right, and the left, to attack. By observing the movements of the character, which reflect their respective attack position, players can strike the weakest part of their enemies. Choosing the correct position can block the other players' attack. The strength of each attack can also be decided by players. The system aims at allowing players to "feel the weight of the weapon in [their] hand" Friendly fire is also featured in the game. Players can cause damage to their own teammates if they accidentally or intentionally hit them with their blades.

As the multiplayer modes are designed to feature a structure similar to that of shooters, the creative director of the game called For Honor a "shooter with swords". The first mode revealed is called Dominion, a mode similar to Domination, which tasks players to capture control points. A single-player campaign will also be included in the final game.

greenshot

img host

image upload no limit

The New Gameplay Review E3

[YOUTUBE]https://youtu.be/VamsNDe123E[/YOUTUBE]

Looks slow though, but looking forward for this kind of new combat. Hope they improve AI movement as it seems too stiff.

It is set to be released for the PlayStation 4 on February 23, 2016 . The game is set in the Stone Age, and revolves around the story of Takkar, who starts off as an unarmed hunter and rises to become the leader of a tribe.

Setting

The game is set in 10,000 BC, in the Stone Age, where humans began to use stones to create tools for their daily life, and a time where humans face numerous challenges to survive, and encounter conflicts with other humans and nature. Players play as a hunter named Takkar (Elias Toufexis), who is stranded in Oros, a former ice-covered valley, with no weapons and resources. He is the only survivor of his original hunting group, which get attacked and ambushed. Takkar will eventually rise to power, and lead his own tribe.

Gameplay

Far Cry Primal is an action-adventure video game. The game is set in place called Oros, which is an open world filled with wildlife such as mammoths and sabertooth tigers. As the game is set in ancient times, the traditional gunplay and vehicle gameplay featured in the series was removed, and players can only get access to melee weapons like spears, clubs, axes, and short-ranged weapons like bows. Players cannot purchase weapons, and must craft them using the materials scavenged in the world such as wood and stone. As players progress, they can craft more lethal weapons with a larger variety of resources. Players are also tasked to hunt for food and learn to create fire. Besides facing natural predators, players would also get the chance to be the leader of a tribe, and drive other tribes away from the world. With this feature, players are tasked to manage and protect their fellow tribe members. The game also features a day-night cycle, which would affect the game's actual gameplay. At night, some enemies become more aggressive and dangerous. Players can make use of fire as a tool for personal protection or hunting at night.

QUOTE

What would happen if you took the large, open-world chaos that defines the Far Cry series, removed the guns, vehicles, modern weapons and political character motivations? You'd have Far Cry Primal -- a survival epic staged in a re-imagined stone age. It's a different, but intriguing idea. The player takes on the role of Takkar, a lone hunter trying to survive on his own in the savage land of Oros. Really, the trailer says it all. It's hard to imagine a better direction for a Far Cry game without guns. In addition to surviving the elements, Takkar will have to fight off packs of dire-wolves, hunt wooly mammoths, avoid deadly saber-toothed tigers and deal with the wrath of hostile, warring tribes. All the elements of the series are here, it just looks different. Still, it'll be awhile before we get to play it: Ubisoft has slated the game for launch in Feburary of 2016. - engadget
