Malaysian Dota Scene Administration.

Hey folks, this thread is created initially to house the ranking idea I have for the Malaysian Dota Community along with discussions of community members on ways to improve it.

As this thread is created to boost the competitive Dota scene, the thread naturally added a recommended rules section to make it easier for prospective tournament makers can come in and refer to a standardised set of rules for Dota tournaments. This is to ensure that rules enforced in their tournaments achieved the highest standards of organisation while participations will not need to adapt to ever changing rules which will certainly affect the quality of their game play over time.

The latest venture of this project will be certain short articles of commentary of the scene in general. These will be long posts of whatever caught my mind at that point of time on a range of subjects that hopefully will benefit everyone in the community after reading them.

As this project might impact the community I hope to receive feedback to make the system more complete and acceptable.

Note for Malaysia Dota Rankings:

1. This rankings are first proposed by the Head Marshall of SGNDT My.Gaming Lim to formalize the way seedings are done in LAN tourneys.
2. The Badminton Super Series rankings are used to make tabulation of points easier and encourage participation of tournaments.
3. The rankings will begin from SMM 2008 last 16 (for Malaysian teams only).
4. Tournaments that are covered in this ranking system needs to meet certain standards : Full online coverage, Open in nature, Full bracket updates to ensure ALL teams are covered.
5. This ranking will be based on team names for now. Changes of team name and members needs to be communicated by pm to me for now.
6. The updated rankings will be uploaded after that event is completed

Latest Ranking Rules:Updated as at 30/03/2009

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Project : Malaysia Dota Ranking

Concept :
The project seeks to award ranking points to participating teams in Open Dota tournaments held in Malaysia. This is to create a ranking system that formalizes the way Dota teams are ranked and seeded in tournament that provide for seedings in the formulation of brackets.

Purpose :
1. To encourage the organization of Professionally organized Dota tournaments around Malaysia.
2. To provide support for potential organizers to ensure the highest quality tournament management.
3. To encourage participation of tournaments by providing a tangible ranking to improve upon.

Coverage :
1.	Dota tournaments sponsored by Malaysian sources.
2.	Dota teams sponsored / teamed with at least 3 Malaysian players.
3.	The minimum requirement for tournaments to be recognized and taken into account in this ranking system is whereby the first place prize reaches or exceeds RM 1,000 in cash prize.”

Ranking calculations :
The ranking seeks to divide tournaments into 3 categories of tournaments in relation to its importance and prize money offered. Tournaments which made an extra effort in creating a group stage / league system in the opening stages of the tournament will be granted and upgrade of category rating after considering the Prize money offering.

The division are as follows :

Category A Tournaments:
1.	Tournaments with total cash prize reaches or exceeds RM10,000.
2.	ESWC Malaysia qualifiers.
3.	WCG Malaysia qualifiers.
4.	Asian WCG Malaysia qualifiers.
5.	SMM Grand National Tournament Finals (SGNDT).

Category B Tournaments:
1.	Tournaments with total cash prize reaches RM5,000 but does not exceed RM10,000.
2.	SGNDT State qualifiers.
3.	Grand Finals of Cyber Café’s sponsored leagues.

Category C Tournaments:
1.	Tournaments with total cash prizes does not exceed RM5,000.
2.	Qualifiers of Cyber Café’s sponsored leagues.

The rankings will be calculated based on the Badminton World Federation ranking rules which will be calculate based on the results or the round a player reaches.

Category A Tournaments:
1st : 9,200
2nd: 7,800
3-4 : 6,420
5-8: 5,040
9-16: 3,600
17-32: 2,220
33-64: 880
65-128: 430

Category B Tournaments:
1st : 4,600
2nd: 3,900
3-4 : 3,210
5-8: 2,520
9-16: 1,800
17-32: 1,110
33-64: 440
65-128: 215

Category C Tournaments:
1st : 2,300
2nd: 1,950
3-4 : 1,605
5-8: 1,260
9-16: 900
17-32: 555
33-64: 220
65-128: 108

Ranking Rules
1. The rankings points will be divided into half; half of the points will consists of the owner of the name (the sponsors and the 3 players of the team); half of it will be divided into 5 for each of the players.

To make it easier to understand I will break it down to a scenario.

“Team CC has 1000 points in the rankings. In this case, Team CC has “team points” of 500 and the 5 players each owns “100” points.
In the unfortunate case of players from Team CC left. The default scenario would award the “team points” to the “3 man majority” of the now defunct team. The new Team CC will be with 500+300 = 800 points where the 2 members who left will bring with them 200 points to their new team.”

2. Due to the limitations of online competitions where more often than not, the team with the better host wins, online tournaments will not be taken into account in this ranking system. This is in no way a move to disregard the significance of online tournaments which serves its purpose of nurturing young teams and plays a role in keeping teams in shape for the bigger tournaments. But for the purpose of a ranking system, to allow for non-skill related factors to interfere with the outcome of the game is not fair to the teams ranked.

3. Points obtained from a scratch team will be divided equally among the 5 players and the points will belong the team the players’ belong at the time of the tournament or the first team (subject to the “Malaysia Team” criteria) the player joined after points were obtained.

4. Taking into account the LAN-based league : Spotgamers League.

A Class A tournament points has been splitted into the duration of the 6 weeks for the points granting. With the top 4 placements of the Class dividing the points based on the calculation criteria as follows :

Win : {[(9,200+7,800) / 2] / 6}= 1,416
Draw : [(1,416 + 1,070) / 2] = 1,243
Lost : 6,420 / 6 = 1,070
No-show : Nil

In addition to that, the final placements will be granted a Class C tournament ranking based on the final positions in the League.

The new rules has taken into account the commitment of getting a whole team into a LAN for 6 consequtive weeks in the only competitive E-sports League in Malaysia.

Tazz Dota Rankings Season 2009 Final Rankings

Tazz Dota Rankings Season 2009 Final Rankings Download

Latest Ranking Excel Sheet Download (updated 14/05/2010):

Malaysia Dota Rankings 14 May 2010

Latest Rankings Summary:Updated as at 14/05/2010

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Top 10 Malaysia :

1. Requests with inadequate or no proofs will not be handled.
Admins reserve the rights to take decisions which are unquestionable.

2. GAME PLAY RULES

2.1. GENERAL RULES

Backdooring:
- Backdooring is allowed

Sharing of Items:
- Sharing of items is allowed as long as the game permits. It is not allowed to suicide to pass Rapier.

Item Restrictions:
- There are no item restrictions

Abuses & Exploitation:
** Hero Trapping (Warning or Game Loss):
Intentionally trapping enemies into trees or holes is not allowed.

** Pause/Resume Abuse (Warning or Game Loss): You may pause at the beginning of the game for tunneling the host and to wait everyone to arrive (maximum of 3 minutes). If the 3 minutes passed, then you must resume and do the hero drafts.
From this point on pausing without any valid reason is disallowed. Resuming the game without the other team confirming that they are ready is not allowed either. Teams that are constantly pausing or resuming to ruin the game will receive a game loss. If someone pauses the game without a valid reason will receive a warning.

** Creep Blocking (Warning or Game Loss):
Creep blocking permanently is not allowed but creep slowing/delay or luring is allowed. It is not allowed to block creeps with the help of spells, such as fissure, sprout etc. it is only allowed to use the hero model to intercept with creeps (accidental blocks are okay, as long as the fissure - for example - was directed at an opposing hero).

** Base Entrance Blocking (Warning or Game Loss):
It’s not allowed to block the base entrance for defensive purpose with the help of spells, such as fissure (accidental blocks are okay, as long as the fissure - for example - was directed at an opposing hero)

*** Bugs Exploitation (Warning, Game Loss or Disqualification):
No Exploitation of any known old or new bug discovered during game play. No excuses will be entertained. Ignorance is not an excuse. Participants/Teams are expected to know what these bugs are. Participants/teams that experience any abnormal game play are advised to inform the marshal on duty immediately.
Definition of “bugs” :
- Anything abnormal which will give a player/team an unfair advantage.
- Anything which will cause interruption/fatal error to the game.

Cheating (Disqualification):
Any kind of cheat is strictly prohibited. Warkeys/Dotakeys are allowed.

** The game has to be played till the end in any situations and the replay/screens be sent to the admins for investigation.

*** If the game did not crash, then the game has to be played till the end and the replay be sent to the admins for investigation.

2.2 DISCONNECTIONS:

Teams are persuaded to save their games frequently during a match in order to compensate for disconnections (every 10th – 15th minutes)

Disconnect before the first hero has been killed: match load from the save if exists.
In case there is not a save after the ban/pick process: teams must take a screenshot with open scoreboard or save the replay, the match has then to be remaked in –ap mode with the same heroes/lanes.

Disconnect after the first hero has been killed:
a) If a save game has been made within the last 10 minutes, then consult the rule below. If not then the game continues without the disconnected player.
b) If the game was saved less than 10 minutes before the disconnection of a player, then the game has to be reloaded unless:
- the team losing their player wants to continue without a reload
- the other team destroyed at least one rax and they wish to continue
- If team 1 have killed 5+ heroes more than team 2 during the time from the last save game and the disconnection, then the disconnect is in the favor of team 1 which may choose whether to continue the match or remake from the save game. For example: at the time of the save game the score is 35-35 and at the time of the disconnection the score is 42-37 for team 1
An Aegis counts for 1 kill
A tower counts for 3 kills when calculating this, down.

If neither team is in advantage then an admin should be consulted, unless teams can agree to a decision by themselves.

If the players or the host pulled off, then there will be consequences of that action.

If a disconnected player is not able to be present within 20 minutes, games should go on without him.

Both teams have the right to request a save after big team collisions and when at least one building was destroyed.

After a remake all players have to pick the same heroes as before, buy the same items and must go to the same starting lane. On initial creep contact, the players may change their lanes

If the same player disconnects more than 2 times, then the opposing team may chose to continue the match without him (the opposite team is allowed to continue without the disconnected player starting form the 3rd disconnection).

It is allowed to use a disconnected hero, but it is not possible to give his items to other players. The items may either stay on the disconnected hero, or be sold so the money is dispersed among the remaining players. Consumables are allowed to use up.

Whenever there's a problem that you can't decide just by reading the rules, then always contact one of the admins. You can contact them on the tournament official IRC channel or by posting in the tournament forum section.
In case of dispute without reasonable proofs, game has to be replayed.

3. PENALTIES AWARDED:

Player Warning: after a warning is given, the game goes on. If a player accumulates 2 warnings during a tournament, he will be banned to play the next game. Upon receiving the third warning, the team gets disqualified from the tournament.

Game Loss: game loss given to a team means that the team loses the current game no matter what the result of that game is. They will not be able to further continue the current event. None of their players on the roster are allowed to join any other teams during the tournament. Dodging the player's suspension by fake/multi-accounting will result in the disqualification of the team.

We wish all the teams good luck and having lots of fun playing!
We reserve the right to change the rules in the future.

Recommended LAN Rules (Updated 14/05/2010)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Game Version: v6.67c
Version: Warcraft III – Frozen Throne expansion set v.1.24e
Competition Method : 5 vs 5
Game Mode : Captain Mode
Tournament Structure : Single Elimination
Match Winner : The team that completely destroys the opponent’s Ancient or if the opponent Team surrenders

The match will begin with a coin toss and winner of the coin toss will get to choose:

(a) Sentinel/Scourge side of the map or
(b) Draft order (1st/2nd pick)

The side that losses in the coin toss can choose the latter

Substitutions
Two substitution players are allowed for each team. The teams must save game right after first blood

5. To account for the various situations of drops that may arise, the final decision will be decided by the marshal in charge after a detailed discussion with the team leaders involved using the below rules as reference.

6. If team 1 have killed 5+ heroes more than team 2 during the period of the last save game and the disconnection, then the disconnect is in the favor of team 1.
For example:
- At the time of the save game the score is 35-35
- At the time of the disconnection the score is 42-37 for team 1
- Since team 1 have killed 5+ heroes more than team 2, team 1 may now chose whether to continue the match or remake from the save game.

7. A tower counts for 3 kills when calculating this, an Aegis counts for ½ a kill rounding down, a rax counts for 5 kills.

8. If neither team is in advantage then an admin should be consulted, unless teams can agree to a decision by themselves.

9. After a remake all players have to pick the same heroes as before, and must go to the same starting lane. On initial creep contact, the players may change lane.

10. It is allowed to use a disconnected hero, but it is not allowed to give his items to other players. The items may either stay on the disconnected hero, or be sold so the money is dispersed among the remaining players.

Abuses & Exploitation

1. A player is allowed to play for 1 team for the entire duration of the tournament. Any substitutes for a team must be approved by a senior marshal before the game starts.

2. Pause Abuse (Warning or Game Loss):
From the point after hero selection process is completed, pausing without any valid reason is disallowed.

3. Bugs Exploitation (Warning , Game Loss or Disqualification):
No Exploitation of any known old or new bug discovered during play. Explanations like "exploiting/activating the bug unknowingly", "we had no idea this bug existed" or similar excuses will not be entertained. Participants/Teams are expected to know what these are.

Examples of Bugs:

* The Obsidian Destroyer bug in 6.56.

* Creep pulling is considered a tactic and therefore is NOT considered a bug.

*Earthshaker Fissure is not allowed to block the entrance and exit of bases.

4. Penalties Awarded:

Warning: After warning is given games goes on. If two warnings are accumulated then the team will be ejected from the tournament upon receiving the two warning.

Game Loss: Game loss given to a team mean the team loses the current game no matter what is the result of that game. A win would be awarded to opponent instead.

5. No foul language throughout the tournament. (Warning or Game Loss or Disqualification):

6. Player could immediately inform the Game Marshal if he/she finds out that a member of the match has violated a rule. Immediate actions will be taken by the game marshal.

7. Any complaints from teams that signed the confirmation slip would not be entertained, any complaints must be done before so.

8. We seek everyone’s cooperation to the rules and hope that by implying the rules to the league, everyone can have a fair game and most importantly, have greater fun.

The Final Team List:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Invited Teams:
1.
Kingsurf in ESTC 2008 - Live Update 6/4/2008

I think I shall just start a thread here and share whatever info I have for today with the community who will most certainly be interested.

For your information, Team Kingsurf.Dota is now participating in the E-sports Thailand Championship 2008. It is held in conjunction with the Bangkok Interactive Game Festival 2008 which seeks to market the gaming industry in Thailand. They were 1 of 3 foreign teams specifically got invited for the event to provide Thailand Dota Fans a glimpse of their skills. The teams that got invited along with Xcn from Indonesia and Zenith from Singapore.

Link to the event.
http://www.bigfestival.net/en/event_overall.php

The contingent that Kingsurf sponsors to Thailand with gaming equipment sponsored by Razer are :

Papaxiong
Xiaogui
Xiaoma
Yamateh
Ice
iceiceice
Furryfish
Pinksheep

So basically we have the top 3 teams in Asia participating in a 128 team LAN tournament event in Thailand. I shall try update this first thread as soon as I got the latest info from my contacts there. So stay tuned.

Update Sunday 10.45 am

Xcn , Zenith and Kingsurf were directly seeded top-32 in this 128 team tournament. From the latest info I got, Both 3 teams won 2 games respectively and will today start from a quarterfinal berth.
Kingsurf.Razer in particular did well stunning the current top Thailand team , Team Heroes of WAR (HOW) led by ACG 2006 finalist p0ng a seasoned and well-known player in the Thailand Dota Scene in the last 16 match yesterday.
Xcn and Zenith faced little resistance in their quest towards the quarterfinal. Xcn today will face Thailand's ADC season 1 representative Team ng.GZ for a place in the semi finals.
From my info , the brackets is place in such a way that Xcn will face Zenith first in the semi finals before potentially meeting up with Kingsurf in the finals. So keep our fingers crossed.
The event ends today which means the winner of this event will be crowned by the end of today.

Kingsurf next match is scheduled to be held at noon Malaysia / Sg time.

I will try my very best to update this thread with the latest info by constantly updating this first post here. So for Malaysia Dota Fans out there , do stay tuned.

Update Sunday 11.55am

Some pics for view for those who cant wait for the action to start. ONLY consumable items can be shared i.e tango, flask, clarity, observer and sentry ward, town portal.

Backdoor is allowed

All items are allowed, however Arcane Ring is only allowed to one hero.

All heroes are allowed

No Exploitation of any known old or new bug discovered during play. Explanations like "exploiting/activating the bug unknowingly", "we had no idea this bug existed" or similar excuses will not be entertained. Participants/Teams are expected to know what these are.

Seedings

A total of 43 teams participated as of time of writing. The seedings are done as per request by Odin. It is based on my opinion on which 8 teams deserved to be in the quarterfinals based on past tournament results.

1st Cybertime ROA
ROA had a fantastic record prior to this tournament. They are unbeaten in all LAN tourneys since November last year until recently got their streak ended by Mkvl at The Mines tourney. Still , their consistency over the past few months merits them a first seed at this tournament.

2nd Mkvl
Mkvl is a relatively new team in the competitive scene. Their meteoric rise to prominence is no short of a miracle by any standards. Constantly matching traditional top teams in training matches, it is a surprise on their lack of appearance of even a semifinal spot in most tournaments held. They proved their worth in The Mines tourney by beating Auto-Dh and ROA on their way to their first ever title. Can they continue their good run at Autosurf ? We shall see.

3rd-4th SK and Wizz
After virtually dominating the competitive scene in 2006 in which SK was champions at the SMM RM30k tournament and Wizz won WCG 2006 , both teams struggled to produce their best form lately. Roster changes has been made to both teams since their eventful wins, strengthening their individual skills department but is it at a cost to overall team cohesion and synergy? Only time will tell. Despite suffering in a dip in form , no team will find them easy adversaries, which warrant them 3rd-4th seedings.

5th-8th Auto-Dh , Auto-Eternals , Cybertime , Wizz 2
Both Auto teams consists of very experienced players in the scene. Auto-Eternals was also the former Px team that grabbed second place at the Point Extreme Dota Tournament. Cybertime on the other hand is a relatively new team formed and won the W2 SMMDOTA tournament with mature strategies and gameplay. Wizz 2 on the other hand is runners up at WCG 2006 and no one will underestimate their true capabilities.

Basically the seedings will prevent the top 8 seeds from meeting each other till the quarter finals, the top 4 till the semis and the top 2 till the finals.

Previews

As predictions on who will win by me is already at the evident at the seedings provided , I will just try to be a prophet now and predict what will happen strategy wise in this upcoming tournament.

By now Bristle Back (BB) is no doubt the hottest hero draft now. As shown in various tournaments, a team with BB stands a better chance to win if opponent fails to own them or even managed a draw in team kills early to mid game. After BB got its Vanguard around early-mid game, the game is practically over for the opponent. Only to stop it is mass euls or conduct a fast push to finish the game before BB actually farms out anything.
Of course, Qop and Warlock will be snapped up pretty quick by most drafters in this tournament. Their massive AOE abilities just cant be ignored.
Chen , once a must pick in 6.37 will now see a decline in its number of suitors. For so much micro, its usefulness is limited with the nerfs slapped on it in 6.41.
From replays generated lately, Viper looks more and more like a glass cannon for me. Its one dimensional play just hardly suits the needs of the game any more. With BB rising in popularity , Viper is getting redundant as a hero choice. Yeah, its soloing power is second to none , but other than that , it is hard to figure anything good beyond that

My suggestion for adventurous teams to try out are Shadow Fiend, Nerubian Assasin, Razor and Tormented Soul. All 4 heroes are buffed significantly in 6.41 in many different ways and could just be a viable choice to outdraft your opponent.
Do try out bottle too. Some western teams actually claims that bottle is actually an abuse. With bottle , gankers like Venomancer and Vs will have no need to go back fountain to regen lost health. Everything they need is in that little bottle at a relative cheap price.

Ok that's all for now. Brackets has already been done but will be posted 8 am today to provide some element of mystery to all teams. Tournament starts at 9 am so all teams be sure to get yourselves registered and ready by then. The quarterfinals may be played using double elimination format depending on the planning being done later today. But all quarterfinalists will surely be notified before they leave for home today.
Latest updates on results on replays will be posted at this thread accordingly by Odin. Hopefully I can find the time to do reviews for most of the replays posted here. As for now, time to go to bed.

Good Luck to all teams participating. Have a GG and HF competing.

Edit : RULES : ONLY consumable items can be shared i.e tango, flask, clarity, observer and sentry ward, town portal.

Cybertime Dota Tournament Matchday

This is the first tournament after MI2 and Zenith showed their skills to the Malaysian scene in a pulsating Zion net Dota tourney. Teams will surely have improved since then. Looking forward to see some great improvements in terms of skill and drafts. With inclusion of the 2 new heroes in drafts , better gameplay is expected from the top teams sucj as Cybertime , SK , Elites , Wizz and Winternight.

Hope we get updates here from the organisers as the other thread seems full of pre tourney info =)

ZionNet Klang Dota Championship Match Day!

Finally , its match day of the Zion net Dota tourney. This time , its exciting as 2 Sg top clans came all the way to Klang just to compete with Malaysian gamers for the grand prize of 5k. Few teams in this tournament that is worth lookout for:

SK : Since their incredible win at the SMM Dota tournament Finals and representing Malaysia in various Dota tournaments internationally , SK has proved itself to be a strong force in the Malaysian Dota scene. Their unlucky exit in the WCG and DNA tourney however is major setback to their quest for its outright dominance in the Malaysian scene. We shall see whether they can reestablish themselves as the best in Malaysia in this tourney.

Zenith : The once all dominant Zenith graced this event with their presence. Considered to be the best clan in Singapore (some say Asia) Zenith combines incredible skills and great tactical acument. With version 6 gameplay still at its infancy in Malaysia , their much lauded skills will be a good experience for Malaysian teams

MI2 : The recently crowned ACG champions seeks more glory at Klang today. With their leader Mutton calling the shots , they look very strong to win this tournament. The recently concluded MI2 vs Complexity showmatch shows how adaptive they are to rule changes. A Mutton-less MI2 managed to push Complexity to its limits and eventually adapting some of the strats that MI2 used against them in their CAL matches. This shows the depth of their strength and skills. They will surely be a tough nut to crack .

Elites : Formerly known as Enet which dominated the Malaysian Dota scene for so long until the the shift of power at the dawn of version 6. The reason of the change of name is unknown to me but I would reckon they kept the core players in them to mount a serious challenge to reclaim their spot as number 1 in Malaysia. The recent DNA tourney champions also has the priviledge of gaining extra experience in CPL Singapore facing Asia's top clans. And we all know what this extra experience brought SK to today.........................

Wizz : This relative new clan surprised the whole scene with their constant winning rate and ability to reach later stages of any tourney they participate in. Their steamrolling of other clans in the SMM and WCG tourneys notably showed that they are an organised team gunning for real glory at the scene. They silenced all their doubters with a 1-2 finish in the WCG tourney and once again announced their intention to be a major player in the scene.

Well thats all for now , hope everyone can shift their discussion to here as the former post seems crowded and I personally would like to see that as preview before the all important match day.

Hope i do not bore you guys with the long post =)
Hi guys , FTZ is currently (19 + 20 August) hosting the SMM National Dota tournament Finals . To facilitate the on going of games , spectators are generally not allowed in. I decided to fulfill the wishes of those who are interested in this tournament with a live update of scores as the competition progreses .

Here is the link to the SMM thread I set up there on the results .

http://www.smm.net.my/forum/viewtopic.php?p=356#356

Feel free to comment =) and support your team !!

SMM Grand Final Map Selection

Since the the rest of the world has recognised the new official map as 6.32b , I really hope SMM can modify the Grand Final Official Map into 6.32b to be on par with the international dota community .

That way we can really compare skills among the best in the world compared to enet , SK , KAOs etc.

6.32b fixed alot of imbaness in 6.27b although i do agree that 6.27b is a great version just like 5.84b and 5.84c. But i do want Malaysia to really keep up with the rest of the world as fast and as close as we can so that we will not be the laughing stock of the community with chants like : I know you all pro , but too bad you gusy are outdated which means you guys are lame and do not want to change

I know CAL (American Dota League) is using 6.32b for the new season. wish we can catch up

Discuss here guys and i really hope the announcement can be made soon to enable the teams to start training if a favourable decision is made by the majority of the community. ( Hope SMM organisers read this)
