THE announcement by the government to introduce the new dual-language programme (DLP), as the added educational component to the government’s high-immersion programme (HIP) initiative helmed by the government’s Performance Management Delivery Unit (Pemandu) last year, received an overwhelming response from parents of schoolgoing children and would-be schoolgoing children, educationists, businesses and groups that have a stake in the development of education. It gives many of us hope that changes to the government’s education policy have ended. Under DLP, schools can teach Science, Mathematics, Information Technology and Communication, as well as Design and Technology, in English or Bahasa Malaysia. In its initial stage of implementation, only 300 schools are involved. This number will increase over time. Nonetheless, parents and their children can decline the offer to go to DLP schools. The idea is to check the falling standard of English in schools and raise the standard of education in national schools.

It is hoped that our young citizens, after completing their primary education, those who complete secondary schools after 11 years of studies, and in particular, university graduates, will achieve an acceptable standard of mastery of the English language and be ready to start work. The problem that we have now, where more than 400,000 graduates are unemployed, most of them Malays and mostly because they can’t speak English, according to a study by Pemandu, will be addressed. No graduate will remain unemployed anymore because of their poor command of English. Nonetheless, things are not going smoothly as many thought and hoped for. Due to pressure by political groups and non-governmental organisations, such as, Persatuan Penulis Nasional Malaysia (Pena), and language nationalists, there are objections to the introduction of DLP in national schools. The say DLP will relegate the importance of the national language and introduce yellow culture. Some even feel that DLP threatens the country’s national identity.

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), a recently formed opposition political party comprising mostly members of a Pas breakaway group, voiced its objection and is planning to organise a demonstration to oppose DLP. They believe that with the introduction of DLP, the country will make the young embrace the colonised mentality that we saw during the British occupation. This is an argument, which, to many, is absurd. For a party with a large number of Malay professionals, I wonder what is happening to Amanah’s progressive stance. Their stand is disappointing to most of us who had hopes for Amanah to raise the educational level. We have given up on them. Given their stand, and if it is allowed to happen, we will see no progress. PKR and Pas are standing their ground, as expressed by their leaders to maintain the education policy and system that has Bahasa Malaysia, the national language, as the lingua franca in national schools. This is viewed as stagnation, at best, in our standard of education and, therefore, we will also see no progress. I am not surprised to see hypocrisy being practised by high-profile opposition members, who send their children to international schools, despite their stand against the use of English in national schools.

Since DLP is optional, no one should have any worry or feel threatened by its implementation, and parents can keep their children in non-DLP national schools, if they object to it. Many of us now are not too sure if opposition parties are objecting to DLP just for the sake of objecting to any new government initiative, or it is just another one of their political ploys. DLP is about being pro gressive and being globally competitive. However, if the majority of people prefer to follow the advice and stand of opposition parties and they do not want the people in this country to be globally competitive, then, there’s no need to change anything. However, they should be prepared for a downfall due to our young’s education level, no progress in education, and be prepared to see more graduates unemployed. It is hoped that the government will maintain its stand on the implementation of DLP, have the commitment to ensure its success, and go for further progress and development for the good of the people.

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK), Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin has urged his staff to pack lunch boxes or cook their meals in the office to counter the rising cost of living, China Press reports.

Hamzah was quoted as saying that 2016 is going to be a rocky year for the country due to the global economic downturn alongside the reduced budget allocations of all ministries and agencies.

“I see eye to eye with the secretary-general’s proposal to implement measures in our department for our staff. We will not serve meals during meetings after this, and everyone is encouraged to pack their own lunch [to the office].

“Starting tomorrow, I’ll also bring my own rice to cook in the office. I welcome those who want to join me during lunch hour,” he said in jest.

Realising the challenges that lie ahead, he remarked: “We should not be afraid of challenges and must embrace them head-on. We must also work together as a team in order to achieve our goals.”

Hamzah said that many baseless accusations have been hurled against the ministry but hopes that everyone will work together during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, the minister also pointed out that the allocations for the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism had been cut down to 16% and 23% in 2015 and this year, respectively.

“This is equivalent to almost 40% in reduction in [budget allocations for the ministry] for the two years combined,” the daily reported him as saying.

“The ministry has held meetings pertaining this matter and we will try our best to use the limited allocations wisely. At the same time, we will also seek to recover debts from the relevant bodies,” he added.

we met 23.02.2014, intro by my best buddy at his housewarming, found her sort of interesting, and shy,

So, I finally cannot accept such big challenge to try out to be in a serious and committed relationship with her... I friendzoned her firmly.

Sigh... never before someone so caring for me, cooked like goddess.

Her looks are decent, not drop dead gorgeous but knows how to take care of her image, slim, a bit on the thin side.

I was thinking that she is suitable to be "a friend", she's quite a geek, never before a girl knows and actually are on Battlenet, very well know how PS4, xBox, PC games and stuff.
Well, she's with an engineering background so that explained a lot, sometimes she can go on and on explained to me how things work and all the science stuff even by just looking at fountain, eating or walking on a bridge lol

We got like really close and I'm someone I would only have sex in a relationship, can't have sex simply with any girl... or any friend with benefit things. But, well, then we did it, when she agreed to come by my house to "watch tv" and give me a good massage because I hurt my shoulder during my muay thai session.... and then yeap... I guess I'll skip the details.

I think she is very hopeful, for me to love her, and to be her bf, but she is not pressuring me at all, one time, she hinted, why do I sometime , got really close, but another time, like normal friends... then I sort of friendzoned her, she looked sad and disappointed, I sort of also really "miss her" at that moment and it's hard to let go, so ... well, then we had sex.

at one point I am not sure I like this part of her or , actually I have to admit I do like so called superficial women that paint their nails and toes, as it is quite sexy, or someone that would be liking the normal girls stuffs? Another thing, she is here in sydney on student visa , doing her phd , and will be completed and finished by October, if she could not get a visa extension, by work permit, she will have to leave, unless, we get married and I give her a spouse visa, (i'm a PR here), means .... in another 10 months time --- If I do not consider this point, we go on, and then she really have to leave and i cannot marry her just yet, then we would have to break up, ( I can't LDR )

Every time I want to be committed and make her mine, the considerations will shoot my mind, and I back off.

well, just if u doubt why girl like her is single, she had a really bad first relationship, and then she sort of like, just work and travel like mad, she had dates, but never a relationship since then because all the dates are disaster (as we shared), and also she always disappeared to business trip and dates just cannot wait.

Have paid tax for 8-9 odd years, Now quit job and further studies in UK, studying Phd so got salary, and paying UK tax
left company that time got annual leave left so they gave it to me on February, RM1k+
and January salary... total up 10k+ only for my income in year 2013 in Malaysia
so next year file that time...will i be question? have to tell them i no work in malaysia anymore?

I bought from England Optical, Focus Point before and not very satisfy with their services, always want to hard sell many many extra "features" for the lenses

end up frame price is like 1/5 of the lenses price... omfg, can see God or Ghost asking for lottery meh so high tech the lenses
and they also not very patient to let customers try on many styles of frames to pick one that look nice on em, tell them to take one they take out one...

cannot take out like a few series, and as professionals, cant u recommend according to my face shape etc etc?
giving me that kind of face like "can la... anything la, as long as u pick a frame then we proceed ok???"

i tried A-look as well, but... always got problem looking for a simple frame there, their frames r kinda funky?
Wearing contact lenses for years and got a granny-style spec for home used...

need to get a new spec now , that is chic and i can also wear out...

budget Rm500 below... so those Armani or what Rayban is out of my budget...

i just hope to find a shop that is patient for me to try on many frames until i find one that i like
