How to shop on Taobao without an agent?

Hi all, I know there are already a number of people asking these questions here but I haven't found an actual answer yet. So I thought I'll try my luck. Hopefully someone will be able to give me the advice I'm looking for.

First of all, I know there are Taobao agents all over the forum. I have tried a few services. I'm fine with their rates but there's one thing that bothers me. Agents take very long to give quotation and they usually don't order straight after receiving payments. Speed is everything when buyers are trying to order sales item that are running low on stock/on very limited period. By the time they replied my email it's already too late. Also, I can't accumulate points and get VIP discounts even if I shop a lot on Taobao.

I'd like to have more control and be able to shop on my own pace. I've done some research and I think I (kinda) know what to do but I don't know where to find the right sources. And I haven't been feeling lucky with Google.

I have:
Option 1 - pay seller through overseas transfer to China bank. BUT, this only works if the seller agrees to do international shipping.
Option 2 - use credit card to pay and use Taobao's contracted freight forwarders (but they are mad expensive!!!). I got quoted 7,000+ yuan for RM300+ worth of regular-sized items.
Option 3 - shop on Taobao myself by using Alipay. I know I can get someone to reload Alipay but I need to have a China address if I'm buying from different sellers to save cost. So I need warehouse and consolidation service. This is where I'm stuck. I just have to find a shipping company in China then I can shop on Taobao, yes???? I've searched high and low but the rates are very high! Can anyone suggest a reliable company that offers reasonable rates? I don't mind paying slightly higher shipping rates e.g. RM25 per kg to Sarawak. Please please pleaaaaaase share your wisdom if you know how?

PS: Don't worry, Taobao agents. I'm not going to snatch your rice bowl. I just want to shop for myself and family members.

Hi, I wish to ask forumers who have owned LCD/LED AND plasma tv on their energy consumption. I'm aware that LEDs are more energy-saving, but to what extent? Based on your experience, did you experience a major difference in your electricity bill when you switched to either one?

I'm leaning towards plasma tv due to its better viewing angle and picture quality. We'd most probably go for plasma if there's no significant increase in the bills.

Owners of both type TVs, please comment! Thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm looking for a mid-range printer for home use. I have done some research and have these two printers in mind: Canon Pixma E500 & Canon Pixma MP287 but I'm still a bit undecided. Please offer some recommendations if you have any. Can be other brands.

Budget: Under RM400
Main uses: scanning, copying and printing (fax not needed)
Printing requirements: good and decent quality, cheaper ink cartridge, can switch to CISS

I plan to use original cartridges since we're not printing a lot right now but I would like to have the option to switch to CISS should the need arises.

[WTA] Problems with my Android phone

Hi, I'm currently using a China android phone, Goophone i9. I'm new to all this and seriously need some help!

My photos are not automatically saved in the camera album. I have to view the pics via these steps just to view the photos: File Manager app > SD card > DCIM > Camera > pics. Whenever I delete a photo from there, this message "Unfortunately, File Manager has stopped" will pop out and immediately shut down the app.

My questions:
1) Normally after taking photos we can view the picture at the bottom of the screen. What do I do to make the picture appear there? And how to ensure the photos can be viewed in the album/gallery? -- unresolved; need help!

2) How do I solve the "Unfortunately, File Manager has stopped" error message? -- resolved; thanks to bingozero!

External storage makes clicking noises after fall

I dropped my sister's WD external hard drive and since then it's been making clicking noises every time I plugged it in. The computer was able to detect it but it always show a "format your drive" message whenever I tried to open the folder and I couldn't access anything from the drive.

I've done a bit of research and wondered if it's the much dreaded "click of death". Any sifus here know if it's still possible to recover the files in there? Should I even bother sending it for repair or should I just get a new one? Really need some advice here before I decide what the next step is.

Hi,

My housemates and I will be going back to our hometown for CNY next year (one week) and we're looking for a reliable pet hotel at PJ area for our cat.

I managed to google a long list of pet hotels but I'm wary of their service & facility, especially since reading articles on animal abuse from pet hotel owners. Kitten Cottage and Pet Epicure seem to have received consistent positive feedback but I read that they are usually fully booked 4 to 6 months prior to peak season!

So I need more recommendations just in case they're both fully booked now. Has anyone here recently sent their pet to a pet hotel and is satisfied with their services? I would really, really, really appreciate it!

PS: I don't mean to be rude but please don't post suggestions here if you've never sent your pet to a pet hotel (unless it's recommended by people you know). I'm only looking for hotels that have a stamp of approval from pet owners. Hope you'll understand.

Hi,

I've done some research on important software to download but I'm still a bit undecided. I'm downloading these for sure: VLC, iTunes, Winrar, Prey.

Unsure:
Ccleaner / Advanced Systemcare / Windows Admin Tool -- Cnet categorised Ccleaner under Maintenance & Optimisation and Advanced Systemcare under Diagnostic but they seem to have similar functions and I'm not sure how different they are from each other.

Malwarebytes & Avast / Microsoft Essential?

I read from some reviews that Microsoft Essential (for security) & the admin tools in Microsoft (for optimisation) would be sufficient. What do you think? And are there any important software that I've missed out? Thanks.

The file paths are the same but the command lines are different. I'm not sure what that means. I've googled tintsetp.exe and it was considered a safe program but I just want to be sure that one of it isn't virus/malware/spyware.

Hi, I really need help from you guys on my non-existent photo taking skills. The pictures I took are normally dark and lack details. I took this photo indoor at daytime. It still looks dark even though the room is brightly lit. The camera I'm using is a Sony Nex-3, shooting mode is intelligent auto. Can you guys give me some pointers on what I can do to improve picture quality? E.g.: 1) What kinda mistake did I make based on this picture? (2) What improvements can I make?
