SHARP TV can't read subtitles (.srt)

Hey guys, I used to use an external media player which is connected to my TV (Sharp AQUOS Quattron 3D LCD TV) to plug in my external hard disk to play videos, subtitles for the videos (.srt files) can be played without any problems, but then I realized that the media player causes audio not to be in sync :/

So I connected my external hark disk direct to my TV and then the audio sync problem is solved. However, it can't play subtitles (.srt) when I press the subtitle button on the remote nothing happens :s , need help, what can I do? Thanks (I don't wanna hardcode subtitles into the videos as i wanna keep them free from subtitles)
