Advice needed for Banking in MY, SG and UK

Hi all,

I am currently working in Malaysia but will be transferring to a new job in Singapore soon. Also starting 2016 I will also be studying my Master in UK.

I have some savings, investment and also mortgage and car loan in Malaysia. From now on most of my financial income will be from Singapore but at the same time I will need to continue to fund my mortgage and car loan in Malaysia, and also transfer some money to UK for my living expenses there.

I am also thinking of transferring some of my savings and investment from Malaysia to Singapore as there are more options for investment there.

In other words I will need to transfer quite substantial amount of money across three countries: Malaysia <> Singapore <> UK, and do so quite frequently.

In this case what would be the most economical and convenient way of managing the fund flow?

Option 1: Open local banks in all three countries Malaysia: Maybank, Singapore: DBS, and UK: Lloyds, and use services like western union to transfer as and when.

Option 2: Open accounts in international bank with presence in all 3 countries: like HSBC or Standard Chartered?

Option 3: Other advice?

Beginner's question on Warrant

Hi all,

First of all let me clarify that I am a total beginner in all this, I am actually taking a course on derivatives, and a question around why Investment Bank issue warrant is bugging me so I am seeking help from all experienced forumer here.

My question is around firstly, why would investment bank issue warrant? And secondly, does issuing warrant with certain strike price implies the IB's expectation on the target price? And thirdly, wouldn't this impacts the IB's impartiality in providing recommendation on certain stocks?

Let me explain further.

Question 1 & 2: Why would investment bank issue warrant? and Does issuing warrant with certain strike price implies the IB's expectation on the target price?

IB's standard response is that is to provide the client with more investment opportunity and leverage. But as market maker if the stock price goes beyond strike price too much, the IB will have to bear the loses right?

Take Kenanga's recent issue of IJM's warrant as example. At time of issue the mother share price is RM6.9. The warrant has strike price of RM6.7, and conversion ration of 6 to 1. And the warrant price is RM0.15.

Taking this calculation, the P&L for Kenanga will break even at RM7.6 (RM6.7+RM0.15x6) Anything beyond RM7.6 then Kenanga will be loosing money right? So it means if Kenanga will issue the warrant as such, it has the confidence that it might not rise above RM7.6 isn't it?

Question 3: Wouldn't this impacts the IB's impartiality in providing recommendation on certain stocks?

If the assumption on question 1 is right, wouldn't it impact Kenanga's impartiality in providing recommendation when the share price does close nearer to the strike price?

Take the same IJM warrant as example, when the market price is close to RM7.6, wouldn't Kenanga just issue bad news and recommendation to encourage investor to sell at a lower TP so that it wouldn't hit RM7.6, and thus they wouldn't have to honour the warrant?

Above are just my personal thinking, hope more experienced forumer are able to provide clarification.

First time home buyer questions

Hi guys, first time home buyer here, I have a couple of questions I need to seek clarification on. Hope you guys can help me.

1.
My monthly salary is about 5.2K, on top of that the annual expected bonus is about 10 months, which means end of year i might be looking at 120K annual income, but it is not fixed. I understand that bank calculate mortgage affordability based on 1/3 monthly "Net" income, my net salary after EPF and SOCSO deduction is about 4.3K and I have a RM 600 monthly car payment now. Does it means that based on these calculation I can only afford a monthly payment of ~RM 1.2K? [(4.3-600)/3] Regardless of my bonus payout? Is there a way to go around this? Having a guarantor on my mortgage maybe?

2.
Looking at some of the ads on certain website and comparing with recent transacted price that I've heard from friends, I realized there is quite a disparity between asking and transacted price. I understand that most seller will mark up the price on advertisement to give leeway for discount. My question is how much discount can i reasonably ask from the price posted on website like iproperty and propwall? is 10% reasonable?

PS: Sorry guys I meant to say "Net Income" after deducting my monthly statutory contribution to SOCSO and EPF as well as loan obligation. thus the calculation of (4.3K - 600)/3 = RM1.2K
