RM80mil saved by picking Chinese firm for Gemas-JB rail project
KUALA LUMPUR: Transport minister Wee Ka Siong has clarified why China Railway Construction Company (CRCC) was awarded the Gemas-Johor Bahru ETS project when it was among the three companies that did not pass the financial and technical evaluation during the initial open tender.
Wee said one of the reasons was that the government would be able to save RM80 million on the project by appointing CRCC.
“The company offered 22% lower than what the ministry estimated would be the cost,” he said when replying to Loke Siew Fook (PH-Seremban) in the Dewan Rakyat.
Loke, who is a former transport minister, had asked about the acquisition of rolling stocks for the project, including the cost and the supplier.

He said the previous Pakatan Harapan government had carried out an open tender for the project, and asked Wee to justify why CRCC was picked through direct negotiations when it did not pass the evaluation based on finances and technical aspects.
Wee said he also questioned why the companies did not pass the financial and technical evaluation, adding that the lowest bid was RM456 million.
“I was shocked when I found out that the specs we had asked for were impossible to achieve, which was why they (CRCC) wrote a letter to us,” he said.
He said one of the issues involved the placement of the auxiliary batteries. “Placing the auxiliary batteries front and back was illogical. If we put that (as a requirement), no company in the world could do it,” he said.
He said he brought the issues up to the finance ministry and found that CRCC fulfilled both the financial and technical conditions.

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...b-rail-project/

AirAsia blame GPS for high ticket price to swak

AirAsia: Fares to Sarawak are expensive due to reduced flight frequencies imposed by Sarawak state govt - SoyaCincau
Local low-cost airline AirAsia said the recent spike in its airfares, particularly to Sarawak, was because the number of flights to the affected destinations were limited.

AirAsia chief executive (CEO) Riad Asmat said the price of airfares rose as an effect of the reduced flight frequency to Sarawak due to limitations imposed by the Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) and Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

“In abiding with the limited flight frequencies imposed by the SDMC resulting in a reduced supply of flight seats, AirAsia’s demand-based dynamic pricing mechanism has inevitably derived prices seen as unfavourable to buyers at this time.

“It must be remembered that this is also the same mechanism that we used to offer guests promotional fares from as low as RM99 one way earlier in October,” Riad wrote in a statement today.

He explained how fares are generally higher closer to the intended travel date, and especially during peak holiday periods, but assured that high uptake on upcoming flights should regulate the prices.

“Buyers have already taken up to 90 per cent of our capacity on most flights. The limitation on the number of flights available in the market is a key factor that has pushed the prices higher across all airlines,” he explained.

The airline also announced confirmation it received today from the MOTS and SDMC for the approval of 42 more weekly flights from Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah into Sarawak, for the limited period between December 4, 2021, and January 5, 2022.

“This has brought the fares down from around RM1,000 one way to below RM200 for a Kuala Lumpur to Kuching flight and these were very quickly snapped up,” said the airline.

Riad added how AirAsia was flying more than 300 flights into Sarawak pre-Covid, with 12 to 15 daily flights from Kuala Lumpur into Kuching alone, a figure which he said has since been reduced to just five daily flights, or a reduction of 67 per cent.

“Many guests had been able to grab our low fares when we ran a special promotion at the end of October with flights from Kuala Lumpur to Sarawak selling from as low as RM99 one way.

“We comprehend that demand is there but at the moment we are unable to meet it until more flight approvals are given,” he added.

This comes as Sarawakians took to social media to complain of the exorbitant airfares to the Borneo state for travel dates in December.

This has stirred uneasiness among those looking to return home either to cast their votes in the December 18 Sarawak Elections or to return home for the Christmas festive season

https://soyacincau.com/2021/11/27/airasia-f...wak-state-govt/

Realigned ECRL saves govt RM16.51bil, Dewan Rakyat told
November 19, 2021 2:49 PM

The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) is also aimed at reducing travel time from Kota Bharu, Kelantan to Port Klang, Selangor.
PETALING JAYA: The government will save RM16.51 billion from the realigned East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), the transport ministry told the Dewan Rakyat.

“This realignment saves a lot of money because the original cost of this project back in 2017 was RM66.78 billion (including the Serendah Bypass) compared with the current cost, which is RM50.27 billion,” the ministry said in a written reply to Lim Guan Eng (PH-Bagan) yesterday.

The amount saved (RM16.51 billion) is less than what the previous Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration said it could save on the project.

In his question to the transport ministry, Lim said PH was able to bring down the cost of developing the ECRL by RM21.5 billion back in 2019.

The then PH government signed an agreement with the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) in 2019, under which the construction cost of the first and second phases of the rail project was reduced from RM65.5 billion to RM44 billion.

The rail alignment under the third phase of the project, from Temerloh to Port Klang, is still being finalised.

ECRL was launched in August 2017 by then prime minister Najib Razak. The project’s plan back then was to link the Integrated Transport Terminal (ITT) in Gombak, Selangor, to Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

Najib was reported to have said that the ECRL would also reduce travelling time between the two coasts to four hours compared with eight hours currently.

Subscribe to our newsletter and get news delivered to your mailbox.
TAGS

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...an-rakyat-told/

Fucking retard want to pay 50 billion for a single track railway. overseas-born children of Malaysian mothers are entitled to Malaysian citizenship under the law.

The government had sought the stay pending its appeal against the earlier High Court ruling in favour of the Malaysian mothers seeking Malaysian citizenship for their overseas-born children.

The hearing of the stay was conducted online today.

ADVERTISING
Lawyer for the Malaysian mothers Joshua Andran told Malay Mail when contacted that High Court judge Akhtar Tahir had dismissed the government’s stay application and ordered the defendants to pay costs of RM5,000.

The defendants in this court case are the Malaysian government, home minister and the National Registration Department (NRD) director-general.

According to Joshua, the judge said that the defendants’ position was contradictory, as their argument that a constitutional amendment must first be approved by the Conference of Rulers presupposed that an amendment was necessary when the High Court had already decided that Malaysian mothers have the right under the Federal Constitution in relation to their children’s citizenship status.

Joshua cited the judge as also saying that there would be no question of retracting any documents issued to the mothers as directed by the court if the constitutional amendment goes through, and that the mothers have waited long enough and experienced hardship and cannot wait indefinitely for the appeal process to be over as it would cause them continuing hardship.

Joshua also said the judge had said that hurdles should not be placed in the mothers’ pathway if the defendants intend to amend the Federal Constitution in line with the High Court’s previous decision.

Following the High Court’s previous September 9 decision in favour of advocacy group Family Frontiers and six affected Malaysian mothers with overseas-born children, the Malaysian government and the other two defendants had on September 13 filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal and had also on September 14 filed the stay application — which was heard today — at the High Court.

The part of the High Court’s September 9 decision that the Malaysian government and the two other defendants were seeking for a stay of is where the judge had ordered all the authorities to issue the relevant documentation such as identity cards and passports if citizenship is granted to the overseas-born children of Malaysian mothers.

Others who represented the Malaysian mothers and Family Frontiers are Datuk Gurdial Singh Nijar, Ngeow Chow Ying and Abraham Au, while senior federal counsel Liew Horng Bin appeared for the Malaysian government and two other defendants.

As for the Malaysian government’s appeal on the High Court’s previous September 9 decision in favour of the Malaysian mothers and Family Frontiers, it is scheduled for case management on November 17 at the Court of Appeal.

Previously, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin told the Dewan Rakyat on September 22 that his ministry had filed the appeal and also applied for a stay of the High Court decision.

Hamzah said it was the government would not commit a contempt of court and not breach the Federal Constitution while it seeks to amend the very same constitutional provisions on this matter.

The minister said that the Home Ministry plans to amend the Federal Constitution to make things easier for Malaysian mothers married to foreigners and give birth overseas even as he pointed out that citizenship matters requires consent from the Conference of Rulers in line with the Federal Constitution’s Article 159(5).

Family Frontiers on September 25 said the home minister’s reason for continuing to appeal the court’s decision was baffling.

The group asked if the minister had sought a two-third majority support of MPs to amend the Federal Constitution.

It noted the minister had not given a timeframe for the amendment, and no solution to the long- standing problem in the meantime.

Family Frontiers on October 28 also asked the government for updates on its proposed efforts to ensure equal citizenship rights for Malaysian mothers and their overseas-born children, in light of the government’s latest disclosure that it had only approved 21 of 2,352 citizenship applications made by Malaysian mothers for their children while rejecting 31 of such applications during the 2018 to October 11, 2021 pperiod

<a href='https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/2021/11/15/govt-fails-in-bid-to-suspend-court-decision-recognising-malaysian-mothers-o/2020959'
Kabinet approved timah to keep their brand name

Timah whiskey allowed to keep its name, says Nanta

PETALING JAYA: The Cabinet has agreed to allow homegrown Timah whiskey to maintain its name, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi reportedly said.

He said the manufacturer will however be required to include an additional label on the whiskey bottle to explain that its name is actually in reference to “bijih timah”, which means iron ores in Bahasa Malaysia.

This was supposedly a proposal from manufacturer Winepak Corporation Sdn Bhd.

“I met with the alcohol manufacturer in question and discussed how to settle this issue.

“I then presented the company’s proposal to the Cabinet, the Cabinet agreed to it,” Nanta was quoted as saying by news portal Malaysiakini quoting Sin Chew Daily.

“I have tried my best to resolve this issue,” he said.

On Oct 28, Nanta said the manufacturer had asked for a week to discuss with its stakeholders and board of directors on changing the name and image on the label of their award-winning product.

He said Winepak Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd agreed to consider the change following a discussion held with the government on Wednesday (Oct 27).

Nanta had said that the meeting was held as the government had taken note of the issue surrounding the whiskey's name, which has been a hot topic on social and electronic media since the beverage was launched in early October.

He also said that the Ministry through MyIPO will improve the procedures, which involves multiple ministries and relevant agencies, so that a similar issue will not recur in the future.

The whiskey Timah has courted the wrath of PAS and other Islamic groups in the nation due to its Bahasa Malaysia name, which critics have said alluded to the name of Prophet Muhammad's daughter, Fatimah.

Critics also argued that the portrait on the label of the Timah whiskey bottle looked like a man wearing a kopiah (a type of Muslim skullcap).

However, the manufacturer explained that the name Timah referred to tin mining in colonial Malaya while the man on its label is Captain Tristram Speedy, an English Officer in Malaya during the British Colonial era.

https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2021...ys-nanta-linggi

70% of PRC delusionally blieve the world love them

https://uscnpm.org/the-pulse/

https://thediplomat.com/2021/11/chinese-peo...icans-disagree/

The first concerns the organic ascent in narratives centered around “self-strengthening,” a concept which offers both the normative justification, and what is widely viewed as the empirical evidence, for China’s “return” to its rightful place at the table internationally. Self-strengthening – drawing upon the imagery of national strength (hence the Chinese cybersphere’s invoking of “qiangguo” or “strong nation,” as a self-description) and defiance of “foreign enemies” – is taken as more than merely an aspirational goal; it is equally construed as what has been occurring over the past decades, and as what is likely to continue into the future decades. Many in the Chinese public – including the highly educated and affluent – are convinced that China has been working toward catching, and will soon overtake, the United States in raw economic and strategic/political terms. The perception that China enjoys prestige and celebration abroad, then, could be interpreted as an organic byproduct of such confidence – which could well be misplaced, but is by no means fabricated or imposed through the state apparatus alone.
