SUNGAI PETANI: A group of motorcyclists attacked an off-duty policeman after his car was involved in a collision with two people on a motorcycle at Jalan Badlishah here.

The incident happened at 3am yesterday when handphone shop assistant Norfaezah Budiman, 21, was riding pillion on her boyfriend Azwan Shah Ishak’s motorcycle to an eatery.

It was learnt that Azwan, 25, and Norfaezah both fell after the collision. Norfaezah died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

Azwan, who was seriously injured, was sent to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries at 10am.

It was learnt that a group of about 100 youths on motorcycles came upon the scene and started attacking the policeman, who is believed to be in his 30s.

He was saved by several traffic policemen, who took him away to safety in a patrol car.

The policeman was said to be on his way to work at the Kuala Muda police district headquarters.

Kuala Muda OCPD ACP Khalil Arifin said Azwan was believed to be riding the motorcycle with a group of four other motorcyclists.

He added that the policeman was driving his car behind the group when he collided with Azwan’s motorcycle, resulting in Azwan and Norfaezah falling to the ground.

He also that said the policeman had lodged a report.

The case is being investigated under the Road Transportation Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding.

An adventurous ten-year-old came up with possibly the best excuse ever after being caught stealing his parents’ car – he was a dwarf who had forgotten his driver’s licence.

The Norwegian boy brought his 18-month old sister along for the ride and headed for their grandparents, who live almost 60km away.

He made it around 10km in heavy snow on Wednesday before veering off the road near his home in the town of Dokka, about 110km north of Oslo. A snowplough driver found him and alerted the police.

‘The parents woke up and discovered that the children were missing and that someone had taken off with their car. They were pretty upset, as you can imagine,’ said Baard Christiansen, a spokesman for the Vest Oppland police district.

‘The boy told the snowplough driver that he was a dwarf and that he had forgotten his driver’s licence at home.

‘We have talked to them, and I’m pretty sure they’re going to pay very close attention both to their children and to their car keys in the future.’

The children were not injured and the car was not damaged, police said.
