help with MPI_Scatter

need help from those familiar with MPI programming:

i need to generate a dynamic 3D-array which is Depth*Height*Width, so i did this:

CODE

    int ***arr=(int***)malloc(2*sizeof(int**));
   arr[0]=(int**)malloc(Y_AXIS*sizeof(int*));
   arr[1]=(int**)malloc(Y_AXIS*sizeof(int*));
   for (i=0;i<Y_AXIS;i++){
       arr[0][i]=(int*)malloc(X_AXIS*sizeof(int));
       arr[1][i]=(int*)malloc(X_AXIS*sizeof(int));
   }

in the above the depth is only 2, height and width is Y_AXIS, X_AXIS respectively.
the Y_AXIS and X_AXIS are not known until run time (read from file)

my question is, once i've generated this 3D array, how do i scatter it using MPI_Scatter?
from what i know,if its a static array MPI_Scatter works flawlessly because the address of every element is continuous, but for dynamic arrays the address is everywhere (correct me if i'm wrong )

Files gone missing?

My friend recently downloaded a jpg file from his colleague though MSN messenger. He placed that file in his my Docs folder. The next day when he turned on her PC, his files in the my Docs folder went missing, as if they were deleted. The files were not hidden. He also mentioned that his system crashed and auto restarted a few times. He hasnt updated his anti virus software in a long time ( ) and has not tried to run a virus scan yet, because he's afraid he might lose other files. Question is, is this the work of a virus/trojan/worm etc? Would updating his antivirus software and running a scan help? And is the empty my Docs folder related to system crashes and auto restarts?
