Do you trust audio products reviews?

Been inactive for years but came back again as I realised there aren't much audiophile community/groups online.

Anyway as title mentioned, I am keen to know if I am the only one here thinking that the audio product reviews (like earphones/earbuds/headphones/IEM) on Google are manipulated.

Back story:
I used to own a Sony SP700N. Got it as my first wireless earbud without researching much on it, but until today I can say without any hesitation that it remain my favourite earbud of all time. As a basshead, I enjoyed the powerful bass coming from it. Very punchy and deep yet doesnt muffle the mids and trebles.

After using it for years, it stopped charging. So I decided to look for a pair that can match its sound quality. At that point, the biggest discussion within the earbud review community was "Sony XM3 vs Soundcore". Watched lots of youtube and google reviews, and went to try out a few models where the reviewers regarded as "best"/"recommended basshead" earphones/headphones i.e. Sony XB700, WF 1000 XM3, WH 1000 XM2, Soundcore liberty 2 pro, Boltune BH20, etc but none of them came close to my beloved SP700N.

At first I thought perhaps its me having a niche taste, so I googled for SP700N's review to see if any reviewers resonate with me. To my surprise, there weren't many reviews on SP700N. If there were, those were mostly computer-generated comparison pages with ratings but no explanation. And most of the articles somehow led me back to XM3 and Soundcore. Eventually, I settled down and got myself an XM3.

Don't get me wrong. I am not discounting the quality of the earbuds people recommend online, I am just dissapointed at how all these so-called "best earbuds in 2022" etc cant even match the sound quality I get from a close-to-no-review SP700N.

Do you guys face the same issue as I faced? Or am I looking at the wrong place for advice all these while?

For the bassheads who own/use to own SP700N, I am keen to know what you are using now and how does it fare against SP700N's sound quality.

I love my girlfriend a lot. She is a wife material and I definitely want to marry her. But one thing that annoys me a lot is that she just loves to wear revealing/thin clothes, and has very little spatial awareness and instinct - basically those kind of girls perverts would see as an easy target.

I know how men think. So I have brought this up a couple of times but she often brushed it aside and got mad sometimes. That went to a point where I got tired of nagging and just see it as a means for her to build her confidence.

This continued until a couple days ago, while waiting for me at the metro station, she dozed off and accidentally revealed her chest to the public. It was during peak hours where the platform was filled with crowd and a man (could be more) kept starting at her chest, according to her. After awhile, thankfully another good man woke her up and told her to cover up as she was being stared the whole time.

When she told me about this, I got very angry and stopped talking to her the night. In my mind I kept thinking about the worst possible things that could happen to her ie what if the man took pic of her and upload to the internet and stuff. I felt helpless for not being there to protect her, and I was also mad by the fact that she had to be reminded by a man to take care of herself and didn’t get affected as much as i do (judging from her look). On the other side, I know she is a victim of this and I shouldn’t blame her but I just thought things would be much better had she dressed more conservatively.

Feeing clueless, I searched for answers on the internet but almost all suggested to part ways which I thought was an easy way out… I really think she is a keeper and shouldn’t be given up that easily.

What should I do?

Update: on a second thought, I think the word revealing here might not be that accurate.. she wears just like how a normal office lady wears. But maybe in certain posture it’s more prone to reveal parts of her

Desktop died from a few knocks!?

Hey peeps,

I am cracking my head now figuring out how to fix my computer.

In the past, I have noticed my screen kept blacking off everytime i accidentally knock on the desktop house (i place my desktop in the leg resting area, so when i push my chair in, it sometimes knock on the desktop, but not really a hard knock la).

This was until last night when I accidentally bang it again, it went dark. I was listening to youtube music that time. Being frustrated, i whacked the desktop housing, near the rear fan area and suddenly the song i was streaming turned into some corrupted-like tone (high screeching sound) and i got so afraid I just restarted my comp.

Since then, it just doesnt boot up again. The fan still rotates, the cooler of the chip is still working. The lights are still on, just no boot up sighted. The monitor has power, but it seems to not respond to the desktop. I am not sure if this is monitor issue, but i reckon, since the computer gave outthe corrupted noise before it died off.

Anyone could explain why?

A6500 vs A6300

So my friend and I went for a photoshoot session today. It was an outdoor portrait photoshoot.

My gear:
A6500 + Sony 18-105 F4 G lens (with Variable ND) on Slog Picture style as I do more videos than photos + 16:9

His gear:
A6300 + Sony 35mm F1.8 on Standard Picture style + 3:2

After the shot, we compared our photos. I noticed that his photos are generally having more details than mine, and also sharper.

I understand that lens play a role here so the fact that my pictures are less sharper could be due to me using a Sony G lens (but i didnt expect such a huge difference since its a G lens)

Also, his photo colours are better than mine which I understand since I am using a dull picture style.

But what I dont understand is that his photos are around 10MB/pic while mine is only 5MB.

I have selected L size 20MB and Xtra Fine image quality.

Oh yeah, since I had the filter on, i compensated lesser incoming light by boosting my iso to somewhere around 3200. But this shouldn't make my photos inferior than my friends a6300, which is technically speaking, a sister model of A6500.

What could have gone wrong here? I dont think the aspect ratio cost me 50% of the details?

I am looking for an answer for that on the net but no avail.

Tehnically speaking, ISO Shutter speed and aperture should be standardized across camera so I shouldn't be seeing one well exposed photo on my DSLR and another point black photo on my RX100.

My guess would only be that RX100 uses a small sensor and its unfair to compare with my 70D's APS-C.

Let me know if I am wrong.

Hey peeps, I am fairly new in cinematography and there is this particular effect that I have always wanted to create but couldnt find the sound effect of it.

To me, these sounds like an extremely long whoosh that has deep bass (to create the vibration effect). But I couldnt find any of that anywhere. So far all of them last only a single "whoosh", 2-3seconds. I already tried duplicating them and merge together... The effect is extremely artificial.

I also heard this common high pitch sound effect (something like you will hear in inception/dr strange scene when the enter wormhole/flashback/time travel). This is then followed by crowd ambience noise. But the crowd ambience sounded in a way that makes you feel like you are traveling at a very fast speed passing them.

If anyone here knows about these two sound effects, could you kindly share it with me? I am willing to trade LUTs and SFXs for yours too in case you need.

I need these sound effect for my city hyperlapse footages.

Hello LYN peeps,

A bit about myself. I am a Malaysian who is currently working in Singapore. Was a scholar but then decided to break bond cuz I didnt really like my previous job. So my dad used his retirement savings to clear my debt (thanks dad, to all the parents out there, you guys rock!). Since then, I got a job in SG and i told myself that I must save up some money and repay him in a lumpsum... That day has finally came.

Long story short, I am ready to change all my hard earned money to MYR. But I am quite new to this so I would appreciate some suggestions from the pros here.
1) I have been monitoring the SG/MY rate these days. Kinda regret not changing it when it was 3.06MYR to 1 SGD. That was a few days back. Judging on how Malaysia is doing right now, do you guys think the 3.06 to 1 will happen again anytime soon? I am talking about next 30 days here. currently its just diving down and it look as if it will go down below 3.

2) My current way of transferring is linking my CIMB SG>CIMB MY and do the transfer. its instant, rate wise, not sure if they are the best. may i know if there are any other good ways of doing this?

[WTA] Dentistry prospect in Malaysia

First of all, I will appreciate whoever replies to this thread because any comments about the topic now will definitely add value to me. So my sister has just recently completed her pre U and she has expressed her interest to further her studies in Dentistry. After doing some research, we concluded that there aren't much choices when it comes to dentistry schools in Malaysia. Based on our findings, we only found MAHSA, IMU and SEGi and we planned to opt for MAHSA for its more reputable for the price it charge.

Now here's some of my doubts:

1. In the recent years, I heard that certain medic-related field is facing oversupply issue in Malaysia. Is dentistry one of them? I am worrying about my sis' employability after 5 years when her programme ends.

2. The programme fee varies a lot across local universities. Some can go up to RM500k while others at RM100k+. Regardless, they are all still a bit on the high side for both of my retired parents. Are there any good dentistry scholarships that you guys can recommend apart from the uni-offered ones?

3. Is MAHSA a good dentistry school? If not, are there any other recommendations? We do consider studying abroad option too. Heard that its more affordable to study dentistry in India but my parents are worried about her studying there alone. Any advice?

4. Is specialisation a necessity? I saw that some uni offered that but I am not sure if the added years will benefit my sis greatly as compared to gathering practical work experience.

5. Any other advice from our fellow dentists?

I have been researching for desktop components lately as my laptop died and i wanted something for my photo/video editing and heavy web browsing.

My usual habit is i will open up a lot of tabs (sometimes to 100+ google chrome tabs), docs editing for blog purposes, Adobe Photoshop/Lightoom/After Effects/Premiere Pro bout 30% of the time.

My budget for rig-building is just around RM1000-1500 and I thought of getting used components to pull down the cost.

Here are my intended setup:
CPU+GPU= Ryzen 3 2200g* - RM350
Motherboard= A320M (can someone advice if overclocking really improve the performance significantly?) - RM120
RAM= Klevv 8GB DDR4 2666MHz (or Corsair supervalue unit) RM200
HDD= 1TB-2TB Barracuda RM100
SSD=Haven't research much, but thinking a 120GB will do** RM120
Chassis= maybe a segotep RM70
PSU= Generic 450W RM50

*Getting an APU so that i can cut out the need for GPU. At the same time, I can also opt for a Ryzen 3 1300X + GTX650 at RM400 in total. Not sure if that will push the performance by a great leap?

**My thought is that when I edit my photos and videos, i will first put all of them into my SSD to allow quick rendering. Once everything is done, i will then move them to the slowe HDD.
