Digital image compression

Hey guys. I'm currently using a Sony DSC W7 and it allows shooting in 2 different detail levels - Fine and Standard.

I took 1 picture with each mode yesterday and it came up to about 2.7MB for Fine and 1.5MB for standard.
But when I open the pictures up with paint and click on save, both the files become to about 500kb size. I compared this 500kb picture with the original and there wasn't really any noticeable difference.

Is this a normal occurence among all other digital cameras? Also, is the quality degradation (if any) significant? I did say there's no noticeable difference, but that was only one shot and I'm not sure if it applies to other pictures.

Working in the car industry

Hi there. I'm currently in the 2nd year of my studies, pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I'm also very interested in cars and am hoping to work in the automotive industry after I graduate. What are my prospects/chances of securing a job in that field in Malaysia? Also, I'm thinking of doing an internship in Malaysia over the summer. Can anyone give any recommendations/pointers on where I should start looking?

Hey there guys. I'm rather new to the photography world. Don't even have a cool DSLR like most of the sifus here (just using a PnS Sony DSC-W7).

Playing Wii on a monitor

Hello there. I was thinking of getting a Wii and hooking it up to a regular 17" LCD monitor. Will any VGA box work or is there a need for specialised equipment?

Also, are there any disadvantages in doing so, compared to connecting the Wii to a TV? Please advise

Any of you up for a guild alliance to raid together, or have spots for a couple of ppl to join up for mc and such? Would be nice to raid in a malaysian timezone. Or have all of you turned horde and went to smolderthorn :'(
