Unable to connect to wireless access point

Dear Lowyat Gurus,

I am currently renting a room in a house, and my landlord has graciously allowed me to share his internet connection. I am currently using a desktop (it is quite a new one, purchased a few months back, in case anyone is wondering whether I have obsolete hardware). I have purchased two USB adapters, but both seem unable to connect to the wireless router that my landlord is using. I have no idea what the problem is, and everything that I try to click / modify in the hopes of getting the connection to work is probably making things worse. So I have resorted to post my question here instead.

Are there any solutions or alternatives that I could try? I have seen that some people are using 2 or more routers with a single connection in one house to get extended range. Should I also try something similar? I would prefer not to be purchasing too many gadgets if it does not have a 100% probability of solving my problem (after I have already burned quite a bit of money on 2 wireless adapters).

I am using Win 7. Are there any known compatibility issues? Drivers are all fully updated as well. As for the wireless adapter, one is TP Link WN727N, and the other is an Aztech Wireless N USB 2.0 Adapter. As for the model, I can't recall offhand. But I think it is something like WL522.

Hope that someone can assist. Thanks very much in advance

EDIT : Just some additional information. I am able to connect via my laptop. Just not my desktop. Also, the wireless adapters are both able to detect the access point. I am just not able to connect. The signal strength ranges from Good to Very Good.

Thanks.

New PC going crazy after just ONE week?!

Hi guys,

As the topic says. I have recently gotten a new PC, but after less than one week, it's gone crazy already. So hope that some of you can give me some advice on what is happening.

My PC tends to just "hang" after a while of use (maybe 30 minutes or so). After that it doesn't seem to want to start. As in it boots, but "hangs" after a few seconds.

So sometimes I just leave the PC alone for an hour or so, then I try to boot again. This time it lasts longer, maybe 30 minutes again. And then it hangs again. Try to restart, it hangs after a few seconds.

It seems that after 30 minutes or so of usage, my PC needs to be given a rest??

My specs are as follows:-

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
MSI 870A-G54 Mother Board
MSI GTX460
WD 500GB HDD
CoolerMaster 550W PSU
2 x 2GB DDR3 RAM

What could be the problem? I'm very upset, as the PC is less than a week old and already has problems.

Problem with screen resolution

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a new computer screen. To be more specific I bought a ViewSonic 22" display. I seem to be having a problem whereby my display seems too big for the screen. As a result, my image is cut off at the edges.

Is this a settings problem? Or a graphic card problem?

Thanks in advance for the help. Really appreciate it.

Upgrading my PC

Hi everyone. I am looking to upgrade my pc a little. Here are my specs as I remember them:

AMD X2 3000
M2N68 Plus mother board
2 x 1GB DDR2
500GB HDD
EN8400GS
Coolermaster case
450W Coolermaster Truepower

My main purpose is to play games. I am thinking of adding 2 more sticks of 2GB RAM. That makes 6GB in total. And I'm eyeing the HD5770 graphics card. Is this good enough? And does the graphic card fit my mobo?

Or should I completely revamp my entire set up? This PC is about 3 years old? Did some minor upgrading every now and then.

My budget is about RM1000 to 1500 for this project. Please let me know your thoughts.

Hi all,

Appreciate if someone could help me with my computer problems.

When I turn on the computer, it will light up for a few seconds and then suddenly just shut off.

Anyone knows or might know what the problem is? There is light, and it seems that just as it is about to load Windows, it shuts off...

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided. Hopefully there is a cheap solution ! Hahaha...
[WTA] Suggestions for ICE

Hi guys. Need some advice here, as I really don't know what I'm doing.

I want to upgrade my HU and speakers, so I went to Brother's yesterday. Managed to select the HU - Kenwood KDC-MP5039U (recommended by the dealer there).

Just want to know whether this is a good HU? I'm looking for something medium range due to budget constraints. The HU sells for around RM500.

This leaves me with RM500 to upgrade my back and front speakers. I have problems selecting the suitable speakers - that's where I hope you guys could help me out.

I'm not sure of the size of the speakers. I drive a Kelisa.

Hope to get some help from you guys on setting up my ICE. Would appreciate all comments regarding the HU and speakers (and also the wiring for speakers, whether it's necessary to change etc etc).

Trying to work within the budget of RM1,000.

Thanks very much

Account gets banned...

Alright, so I start playing WoW like 3 weeks ago...

Everything is fine, I grind, I do quests, instances with people, I get along well with whoever I talk to (mostly just real life friends) and then today, I wake up to find that my account has been banned.

They don't really give me a reason, except that they claim my behaviour is in violation of the "essence" of World of Warcraft (whatever that means).

So I think I have been mistakenly banned. What should I do? Does anyone have any idea why I got banned?

Please help. I don't want to be pwned.

Thanks.

Unable to change payment method?

Hi guys.

I've just bought and created an account on WoW. At the time of creation, I had selected the option to pay by credit card. But I now realise that is a bad move, as there are some months that I won't have internet connection, and thus, it would be a waste if they just keep deducting my money from my credit card, eventhough I am not playing.

I have tried to change the method of payment, but it only allows me to change the type of credit card and the type of plan that I want. There is no option to change from credit card to prepaid card.

Is this because I haven't paid before? I am still on the 30 days free access that came with the starter pack.

Hope someone can help me.

Thanks.
