Sick SPM candidate

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/12/5/nation/12413685&sec=nation
PETALING JAYA: A communications glitch between SPM exam invigilators and teachers had allegedly caused a Form Five student to miss the chance to complete one of her exam papers.

Yunishaa Karthi Keyan from Sungai Petani, Kedah, had food poisoning on the day she sat for her Additional Maths Paper One during the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam last Wednesday.

Her father Karthi Keyan P. Mathavan Pillai claimed that teachers from his daughter's school gave him the assurance that his daughter would be given extra time to answer the paper when he rushed from work to send her to the clinic.

“My daughter started to feel very ill and vomited before the exam started at 8am. Halfway through her exam, I got a call from the school that her condition worsened and I rushed from work to the school,” said Karthi Keyan who works as a factory worker.

He added that an ambulance went to the school earlier to check Yunishaa's blood pressure and sugar level readings and she was allowed to continue sitting for the paper after the ambulance left.

However, her condition worsened during the exam and teachers from the school contacted Karthi Keyan.

“We took about 45 minutes to get back to the school from the clinic. By the time we reached the school, the exam had ended and the invigilators had left.”

He spoke to the head invigilator before his daughter sat for the second paper of the same subject in the afternoon but was told that his daughter would not be able to resume the paper because no invigilator accompanied her to the clinic.

“I didn't know the procedure to follow. I trusted the teachers to help me but now my daughter is very worried that her grade for the Add Maths paper will be affected,” said Karthi Keyan.

The single father had since lodged a police report on the matter.

A spokesman from the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate said the matter would be investigated pending a report from the state education department.

He advised Karthi Keyan to file an official appeal with the syndicate.

“By procedure, a candidate who leaves the exam hall without notifying any invigilator and not accompanied by any invigilator will not be allowed to resume the exam.

“This is to ensure fairness to all the candidates,” he said.

The school declined to comment on the matter.

What do you think?

Studying in Australia after A-Levels

Hey everybody. I'm relatively new here but I hope that somebody could solve my dilemma. I am currently studying Cambridge A-Levels at a local college, and this is my A2 year(half-year?). I studied A-levels because well, when I finished SPM I didn't really know what to study and so I just simply choose a course in a famous college. (following the majority of my SMK classmates). However, now I've decided that I want to study LAW in Australia. The problem is that I can't apply for the Feb 2012 intake as I am still doing my A-levels now, which will finish in June 2012 (After my final exams). I really, really want to get in to Australian Universities- ANU/Sydney/NSW/Monash that offers a 2nd semester entry to their LAW programme. Do you think that's possible because my final A-Level results will only be out in August 2012? (I will be having my AS results soon tho). Or else I have to wait for about 8 months for the February 2013 intake and I really, really don't want to wait. (I don't want my brain to be rusty...:cry) Has anyone applied for Australian Unis using A-Levels forecast before and successfully gotten in?
