Receiving and Holding Foreign Currencies

Hi all,

I've did my homework and read up on some threads discussing a similar topic here but not as specific to the circumstance outlined here.

The scenario goes that:
1) A local MY freelancer providing online services in exchange for USD payments from overseas clients.
2) Routinely, there would be costs denominated in the USD that the freelancer has to incur monthly (eg software costs) which the freelancer has to incur.

The freelancer is looking for a solution to:
a) Hold the USD payments received instead of having it be converted directly to MYR upon receipt (eg. like how TransferWise is doing it now)
- This is so that there wouldn't be double FX conversions as the freelancer has to pay for USD operational costs

b) Be able to remit money back to MY for own personal expenses and tax purposes as when necessary at lowest fees and favorable rates

Of course, the best solution was TransferWise's borderless account before it got shut down here.

Among the alternatives right now could be:
1) Using Payoneer
2) Opening a multi currency account with a local bank

Are there better alternatives? Is it possible to open an SG Wise account despite being an MY resident?

I need a new laptop

Hi everyone,

I made a mistake in buying a laptop like 2 yrs ago (I thought I could upgrade certain parts ), but it was ok because I was not running demanding applications.

I would need this laptop here mainly for audio production (Ableton Live), a little video editing (maybe Premier Pro) and some casual gaming (GTA I guess? ). To put it into perspective, something that has good specs and can run demanding programs.

I dont mind if its a HDD because I will need lots of storage.

With that in mind, I also want this laptop to be portable and I can bring it along where I go without feeling like I'm carrying rocks in my bag.

Ideally, I would prefer my budget to be around 4.5k but not exceeding 5k.

Advice on what course to pick after SPM

Hi all. Fresh from finishing SPM here. I'm still wondering what should I do best for myself. I'm interested in subjects like Physics, Maths, Add Maths and Accounts (got A for Physics and Add Maths during trial and A+ for Maths and Accounts), more on figures and calculations. So, I think its kind if narrowed down, either Engineering or Finance/Accounting.

I'm more concerned with the career prospects on Engineering especially because I've been reading /k/ seeing many complain about salary and stuff other than those in O&G industry which I'm not that interested in. For me, I enjoy Physics and Add Maths more than Accounting so Engineering is more of a preferred choice but if I were to fall back, I wouldn't mind Accounting. So, I just have to get some advice, which one should I go concerning job prospects locally for now? Of course, if there is a recommendation over other courses, I'll gladly listen .

Just as what the title suggests, I'm seeing a lot of white lint/dust or correct me appearing on this clothing. I'm not sure why? Is there any fix for this?

Learning how to play the piano by ear

Like what the title says, I would really want to learn how to play the piano by ear. I've previously made it to grade 1 and know quite the basics of music (like the notes, scales, keys etc. but nothing much about chords other than broken chords).

The reason I want to learn how to be an ear player is because I would really like to play and transpose my favourite songs I hear (mostly EDM, where sheet music is rather scarce) to piano. Next reason being I'm very slow at reading sheet music and take up to more than 3 secs to just read ONE note, yep, just ONE note . Another reason is also I would like to one day produce songs and that ear training might give me an advantage in the musical side and composition of music production.

Any recommendations? I would prefer somewhere nearby my area, PJ SS2.

Any coloured pens to recommend for note taking?

Just what the title suggests. I now have Stabilo ones, but they bleed and show through the other side of the paper, which is bad for me . Prefarably, I would want one that doesnt bleed through paper as I would like to write on both sides.

Hi all,

Form 3 guy here starting to prepare for next year F4. I did a couple of research on good resources to help me next year and I came across EzLearn2u. Its some kind of 'online tuition-course' which is owned by the famous Sunny Yee. Though just by looking at the name, some may think, 'hah, easy choice, of course I'll sign up', but still I would like to know if its really great enough for me to apply it into my studies and yet still score. I'm looking to other methods because I think I may not have the time to attend so much tuition on the many subjects come Form 4. So, it'll be great to hear opinions from those who have used it.

Other alternatives, ITTV (expensive ) & Astro Tutor TV (may not be that in-depth , but personally haven't even tried before )

Hello all techie LYN forumers,

I have the Dell Inspiron 13R Laptop for quite some time (I think 3 years ++), rarely used so I didnt really mind the fan running too loud. But now, it has become somewhat very annoying as I want to do some audio related stuffs on it and I doubt I could do it properly as there is this *wwwhhhiiiiinnnnnggggg* ( ) sound that it makes even when the time it boots up (as soon as I turn it with the on button, that sound can already be heard and doesnt go away until left to sleep and when woken up, it continues).

I know this is a new gen laptop, but still I hope to get answers. I would want to upgrade it to an i5 proc and have Win8 on it soon as it still looks quite ok. A little help please ?

I know I needn't rush for this (just fresh from finishing PMR) but still, want to get some advice here on what stream I should go when I enter Form 4 if I were to pursue in the IT or Accounting field. Science stream looks like its "out" for me as I do not intend to enter the medical field, but I'm not sure what to choose between Sub-Science or Arts stream?
Does some IT guy need Add. Maths?
