I think I have a unique perspective and story to tell, assuming the censors don't come after me and ban my book. I'll talk about my view on politics, my experiences dealing with the law, the media, authorities like my alma mater, my assessment of the Malaysian public, religion, liberalism, human rights, etc. I'm a good writer, engaging -- or so I've been told.

1) How do I approach publishers?

2) Do publishers link you up with editors, illustrators, etc.?

3) Should I try to get it published in Malaysia or Singapore?

My primary market would be Malaysians, though I'm sure Singaporeans find my story relevant too.

With 95% of Chinese children being Chinese-educated these days, and almost all of Malay youths being Malay-educated (there goes 90% of the population), is there even a possibility of success for locally-made English-medium films? Not to mention that local English-medium films have to compete with Hollywood productions...

I currently rent a studio apartment unit @ Kompleks Mutiara, Jalan Ipoh -- about 380 sq ft.
I am strongly contemplating buying the unit... Market price seems to be around RM150k.

I'm in my mid-20s, not planning to get married at all.

My questions are... 1) Is this a good buy? 2) Any comparable properties at the same price range in KL area?

We live in an amazing age. We can immediately access information, capture photographs, create immaculate graphics, produce short films, design animation, compose digital music, disseminate media, programme disruptive software like Facebook and YouTube, etc., all using widely-available and cheap consumer products like laptops, smartphones, DSLRs, and an internet broadband connection. In other words, these days, we can create wealth out of nothing on a very low budget. IT HAS NEVER BEEN EASIER TO BE RICH AND FAMOUS IN THE ENTIRE HUMAN HISTORY THAN TODAY.

The important point that we have to acknowledge and accept is that work sucks when you work for money, and people who pretend to enjoy and have a passion for writing reports, auditing accounts, preparing presentation slides, or drafting contracts are just full of ****. I immediately cut off all ties with any friend who cannot be honest that he would rather be watching movies or surfing at the beach than attending meetings (a la "OT-ing today, but strangely I enjoy it!"). Really, keep your dishonesty and self-denial to yourself.

The key to a rewarding life is to remove the requirement to work for money. I'm lucky enough to not have to work and yet have a reasonable monthly passive income from my online daily deal platform, Zuupy.com, and, to a smaller extent, my stock portfolio dividend payouts and YouTube Google Adsense revenue. I can literally free up almost all my time of the week to do anything I want and not starve. In fact, my cash savings are increasing month after month. In 2012, I literally focused my time on enjoying myself: moving out, going on road trips, playing the piano, working out, knowing chicks, ****ing chicks, starting a sex blog, being a "talk of the week" media personality, starting a YouTube channel, and, now, learning screenwriting and filmmaking. 2012 was the happiest year of my life.

How do we create ample free time to do the things we love without starving? We have to work on creating a scalable career. A scalable career is one where you create something once but make money from it over and over again at very-low marginal cost. That is the only way to get rich and have free time concurrently; nobody hits it big by working on salary or charging by the hour. An author writes a novel once but gets royalties from publishers and movie producers over and over again over her lifetime. A singer records an album once but makes money every time someone buys her album, even many years down the road. A movie producer makes a movie once but earns money from DVDs, merchandise, and licensing rights for decades. Microsoft codes up Windows 8 once and duplicates millions of copies of it for sale for years. A YouTube personality creates inane talk show videos and earns Google Adsense revenue for years after post-production.

Of course it's not easy to produce a full-feature film, write game-changing software, craft a best-selling novel, design patentable microchips, etc. You need a ****ing awesome skill to begin with. Yet we're lucky that the high price of success that we have to pay is not initial start-up capital, but willpower and self-learning capabilities. The most effective way to cultivate willpower and self-learning capabilities is to aim to create something great using the skill you intend to learn, e.g.:

1) If you want to learn programming, aim to create an online platform and generate 1,000 daily hits.

2) If you want to learn music composition, aim to produce a song that garners 10,000 YouTube views.

3) If you want to learn furniture designing, aim to craft a piece of furniture and display it at some exhibition.

4) If you want to learn filmmaking, aim to write a short film that would debut at some film festival.

You cannot self-learn anything aimlessly, i.e. picking up a "For Dummies" book, ravishing it from cover to cover, and then assume you have picked up a skill. This is not school; the test does not involve regurgitation and rote memorisation. Anyone without self-learning capabilities in today's world is deeply, deeply disadvantaged. He who cannot learn by himself is sometimes as good as he who cannot learn at all -- as he needs to be taught -- and he who needs to be taught can only learn as much as his teacher can and will teach. Unfortunately, the world hates you and wants to prevent you from succeeding, so, if you're hoping for some magnanimous soul to really hold your hand on the way to success, fat chance. You are your only saviour. Start learning, now.
