Japan nuclear wastewater

Nearly 1.3 million tonnes of contaminated water, or enough to fill about 500 Olympic-sized swimming pools, is stored in huge tanks at the Fukushima nuclear plant. And Japan will release them into the sea.

The plant’s operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co., and government officials say tritium, which is not harmful in small amounts, cannot be removed from the water, but all other selected radionuclides can be reduced to releasable levels. Some scientists say the long-term impact on marine life from low-dose exposure to such large volumes of water is unknown.
[attachmentid=10937356]
Greenpeace claimed the contaminated water contained "dangerous levels of carbon-14", a radioactive substance that it says has the "potential to damage human DNA", also this dangerous materials that remain in the water can "be easily concentrated in the food chain". The organization also called the decision “an outrage,” while Japan’s national federation of fisheries cooperatives described it as, “utterly unacceptable,” given the resulting negative publicity is sure to scare off some people from eating fish caught in the area.
[attachmentid=10937357]
At the same time, marine scientists expressed concerns about the possible impact of the discharge on marine life and on fisheries.

Actually, Japan has discounted the radiation risks and turned its back on the clear evidence that sufficient storage capacity is available on the nuclear site as well as in surrounding districts. Rather than using the best available technology to minimize radiation hazards by storing and processing the water over the long term, they have opted for the cheapest option, dumping the water into the Pacific Ocean.

Trump will hold his first campaign rally in months on Saturday in Oklahoma, where infections are rising, and officials there are pleading with him to cancel or hold it outdoors.
They are pleading with the Trump campaign to cancel the event, slated for a 20,000-person indoor arena — or at least move it outdoors.
The causes of Tulsa’s rise in cases are still being studied by local health officials. A spokeswoman for Tulsa’s health department said investigations of “recent outbreaks” were focused on “large indoor gatherings.”
“Like any other public health official, I’m a little angry,” Mr. Dart said about the rally. “Frankly, I’m afraid for a lot of people. It hurts my heart that we know this is a possibility and we’re doing it anyway. It’s like seeing the train wreck coming.”

the election is much more important than people's life.[attachmentid=10518439]

NAJIB WON’T BE THE ONLY ONE

Melakukan perubahan pentadbiran dan memenjarakan seorang bekas Perdana Menteri bukanlah semudah teriakan reformasi dan pangkah kertas undi. Ia lebih besar dan sukar daripada itu. Janji mudah dibuat tetapi sukar dipenuhi. Reformasi mudah diteriakkan tetapi sukar dilaksanakan. Inilah realiti politik perubahan – the politics of change. Rakyat jelata memilih perubahan dengan mengundi Pakatan Harapan walaupun berbagai-bagai halangan dikenakan oleh kerajaan Barisan Nasional. Tetapi kegigihan rakyat jelata mengatasi segala-galanya. Jadi patutlah rakyat jelata menuntut hak mereka. We inherited a broken government.

Make Google view image button visible again: https://goo.gl/DYGbub

ET UP PROTEST SOP IMMEDIATELY, MARIA CHIN SAYS

PETALING Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah has urged the government to immediately set up standard operating procedures (SOP) on how to handle protesters. This should include avoiding the use of force if the number of protestors are small, she said in response to the arrest and alleged manhandling of eight activists in Kota Kinabalu, today. She said the incident was a shameful one that had marred Malaysia Day. “A proper SOP needs to be set up immediately to ensure that such repressive behaviour, attitudes and actions be corrected. “We must also ensure that the authorities understand clearly that it is wrong to deny protesters their right to peaceful protests,” she said in a statement. She also urged the police and the Home Ministry to apologise to the activists and drop all charges against them as they have not done anything wrong. The eight activists were taking part in a “Pandang Ke Sabah” rally today morning. They were roughed up and arrested after they refused to disperse as ordered. They were demanding rights for Sabahans in conjunction with Malaysia Day today, such as better education and job opportunities. Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu and Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman have so far spoken out against the arrests, saying the activists should have been allowed to exercise their freedom to peaceful protest. Maria said the conduct of Sabah police and Deputy Home Minister Azis Jamman in attempting to deny their activists’ freedom to protest was a “disgrace”.

Make Google view image button visible again: https://goo.gl/DYGbub

MENGAPA BARU SEKARANG NAJIB TAMPIL BUAT PENJELASAN

Make Google view image button visible again: https://goo.gl/DYGbub

Do not defend bad leaders - Anwar

PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim has called on the people not to defend bad leaders. He said some people went to the extent of defending bad leaders just because they were of the same race and religion. He reminded the people that they should know right from wrong and that race, religion or culture, were not an excuse to defend such leaders. "The attitude of some people now is that it is okay to defend individuals who go against religious teachings like stealing the people’s money or engaging in corruption, so long as they were of the same race and religion. "We need to clean up our act, clean ourselves first, do things right. When we do this we open up a new path giving to new hope which is what the new government is doing,” he said at an Agenda Malaysia Baharu event in Gemas last night. Present were Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun and newly-elected Seri Setia assemblyperson Halimey Abu Bakar. Meanwhile, Anwar also stressed that the rights of Felda settlers must be returned to them soonest possible to repair the damage done by the previous government. He also expressed his confidence that the Pakatan Harapan government would bring changes to revive development for the benefit of the people.

Make Google view image button visible again: https://goo.gl/DYGbub

PAS claims cabinet exaggerated caning case

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has accused cabinet of commenting on the Terengganu caning case to distract from Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng’s acquittal. "Sometimes, they exaggerate the issues, for instance the incident in Terengganu, as an attempt to cover (Finance Minister) Lim Guan Eng's case, which is more serious than the trivial issue in Terengganu. "The cabinet should not have issued a statement to criticise the laws and the punishment," he told a 500 crowd at the ceramah in Seri Setia last night. "This is being disrespectful to the decision of the Syariah Court," said Tuan Ibrahim, who is Kubang Kerian MP. He was commenting on two court cases in the spotlight this week: Lim’s acquitted by the Penang High Court on Monday and Terengganu Syariah Court’s public caning of the two women over a sex offence. The punishment meted out by the Syariah Court was guided by the relevant laws approved by Parliament, he added. "The victims did not appeal the punishment despite being able to do so in 14 days. They wanted the punishment to be carried out so that Allah can forgive them," he said. "What is important is we do not question the existing laws. If all parties rise to question the regulations, why should we have these laws when we don't even respect them?" he said. Yesterday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the administration opined that the women were first-time offenders and therefore should have been advised by the authorities, rather than be subjected to corporal punishment. Media reports of the caning drew criticism from various quarters including politicians and rights groups, which deemed flogging as a form of torture, and which was "cruel and degrading". The state government, however, has defended the act and said it was meant to educate the public and not hurt the women. The women, aged 22 and 32, were caught by Islamic law enforcement officers in April attempting sex in a car. They were fined RM3,300 each by the Syariah Court and sentenced to six strokes of the cane after pleading guilty.

Make Google view image button visible again: https://goo.gl/DYGbub

JB hit by major power outage

The city plunged into chaos after a major power outage. The blackout that struck during lunch hour left victims stranded in lifts and brought traffic to a standstill after all traffic lights in the city stopped working. However, supply was restored by 7.40pm yesterday. The power outage, caused by the breakdown of a Tenaga Nasional Bhd substation, is described as one of the worst in recent memory. However, no major accidents were reported and those trapped were rescued by their building’s own emergency response teams. .Besides malls, the power outage also knocked out power to the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex and Sultanah Aminah (HSA) general hospital. The Immigration Department’s systems were only down for less than 10 minutes before the back-up generators kicked in. HSA’s operations were also not affected as the hospital was also using back-up generators to run their critical areas – mainly operating theatres and intensive care units. Traffic policemen were also deployed to man traffic along major roads, including Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Skudai and Jalan Lingkaran Dalam. S. Param, 43, said he was about to go out for lunch when the power disruption occurred at his office near Jalan Ayer Molek. “I was forced to walk down using the stairs from the ninth floor as I was worried of being trapped in the lift,” he said. Tenaga Nasional Bhd Johor (Distribution Division) general manager Datuk Baderul Sham said the power outage was due to a failure at a main substation at JBCC along Jalan Rahman Andak at 1.04pm. Baderul said among the affected areas were the JBCC Tower, Bangunan Sultan Iskandar where the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex is located, Central Police Station, JB Sentral building, HSA, Taman Century and Jalan Yahya Awal, involving 10,000 TNB account holders. Johor International Trade, Investment and Utilities committee chairman Jimmy Puah Wee Tse said power in some places was restored by 3pm

Make Google view image button visible again: https://goo.gl/DYGbub

There’s only one honest bumi agenda Make Google v

So, today is this big pow-wow amongst the Malay elite for a new bumiputera agenda, which would chart the course of the majority of this country. As Council of Eminent Persons chief Daim Zainuddin said, maybe this time they will get it right. Who is “they”? Well, “they” are the Malay power brokers of the new Malaysia, of course. Leading up to this event, MCA and DAP got into a bit of a row about who was not spooking the Malays more. First of all, I have no idea what DAP’s Muhammad Shakir Ameer means when he says MCA is fighting fire with fire which would burn everyone, but I do believe that DAP is muddled when it comes to this issue. Three important points need to be made: The first is that DAP has no grounds whatsoever to claim that Chinese Malaysians voted against the racial politics of Umno-BN because the Pakatan Harapan regime, with its linchpin Bersatu, is led by the old guard of Umno, which is a race-based party. This, of course, is strange because Bersatu, unlike PKR and DAP, which are “multiracial”, has the lowest number of seats but yet by virtue of “not spooking the Malays” has the most say in government. Second, to claim that MCA does not understand the economic reality that necessitates measures by “the Harapan government would have to take would seem ‘painful’ but necessary for the benefit of many” is ridiculous considering the fact that the raison d'être of MCA was balancing the economic, social and political aspirations of the Chinese community and you guessed it – "not spooking the Malays" – which is exactly the role played by DAP now. Third, the idea that MCA wants to continue racial politics after 61 years of independence when DAP has to defend a bumiputera congress while the Malay political elite of PKR and Bersatu chart the course for the majority community, is laughable.

Make Google view image button visible again: https://goo.gl/DYGbub

Batu Caves temple committee: We do not need herita

GOMBAK: At risk of being delisted as a national heritage site over its newly painted 272-steps, the Batu Caves temple committee now claims that it has never benefitted from being one. Batu Caves Sri Mahamariamman Temple Devasthanam committee chairman Tan Sri R. Nadarajah said the National Heritage Department did not give any grant for maintenance of the site, which is also a tourist spot. “The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) has deemed Batu Caves unfit for their heritage list. We do not need the heritage status. “If the department can maintain the area, we do not need to paint it. It is ridiculous for us to seek the department’s permission to paint the steps. .“We paint the steps every year. We clean and beautify the area to attract tourists,” he told reporters after the consecration ceremony here yesterday. The colourful steps, said Nadarajah, had received mostly positive feedback, adding that only a few criticised the efforts. The committee, he added, had been inspired by the colourful peacock. On Aug 29, StarMetro had reported that the temple was at risk of being delisted as a national heritage site due to the renovation and paint job done without approval from the department. The report also stated that no approval was given by Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) for any job in Batu Caves. Nadarajah claimed that the MPS had never approved any of the temple’s application.

Make Google view image button visible again: https://goo.gl/DYGbub

Disquiet in Beijing, frustration in Putrajaya Mak

During his visit to Beijing last month, Dr Mahathir reached an understanding of sorts with the Chinese leadership on the need to cancel or defer the troublesome mega projects of his predecessor. Both sides subsequently expressed their determination to work together to resolve outstanding issues. Recent developments, however, suggest that working out the details of an acceptable exit plan may be more difficult than anticipated. Putrajaya seems increasingly frustrated by the impossible situation it finds itself in because of the actions of the previous government. Projects like ECRL are proving to be too costly to afford but too expensive to cancel. Thus far there are no clear indications as to how Putrajaya will proceed but it is making its unhappiness known. Beijing, on the other hand, seems increasingly perturbed by some of the statements emanating from Malaysia and is signalling its displeasure.

Make Google view image button visible again: https://goo.gl/DYGbub

Jho Low crops up again in latest China episode

The latest episode of the 1MDB saga, this time involving entities in China, has seen fugitive businessperson Low Taek Jho's name cropping up yet again. The alleged mastermind behind the 1MDB scandal is said to have had a central role in negotiating the Suria Strategic Energy Resources Sdn Bhd (SSER) pipeline project, which is believed to have been used to launder funds to bailout 1MDB. This is according to an unnamed former Malaysian official, who worked in the Prime Minister's Office, who was cited by The Wall Street Journal. The official said former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak had met with Low to discuss projects with China in May 2017, on the sidelines of the Belt and Road forum in Beijing. At the time, Beijing's China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau had received funds for the project. A current Malaysian official said that one of Low's associates in 1MDB later attended a meeting to discuss the pipeline project. It was reported yesterday that funds from a China Exim Bank loan meant for the RM9.4 billion SSER project were allegedly laundered to pay off 1MDB debts. WSJ cited current Malaysian officials who believed that a portion of the US$2 billion loan had been channelled into a series of shell companies before ending up in Silk Road Southeast Asia Real Estate Ltd, a China company based in the Cayman Islands. Silk Road's sole beneficial owner is reportedly a Middle Eastern investor, whom the officials believe to be an associate of Low.

Make Google view image button visible again: https://goo.gl/DYGbub

WHY SHOULD MALAYS BE SO STUPID TO RISE UP FOR UMNO

UMNO has nobody to blame but itself for the failure to protect Malay interests that caused the community to languish behind the other races economically, said veterans’ group Patriot. Patriot president Brig-Gen (rtd) Mohamed Arshad Raji said several leaders remained in denial of this reality, as evident by speeches made at last Saturday’s “Melayu Bangkit” rally where Pakatan Harapan and DAP were blasted for sidelining the Malays. “Patriot takes a serious view of the speeches made by Umno leaders, notably Annuar Musa, Tajuddin Abd Rahman, and Lokman Adam that accused Pakatan Harapan leaders of failing to protect Malay interests and those of the Malay rulers,” Arshad said in a statement today. “These Umno leaders have obviously lost their sense of reason. Their speeches are reflective of themselves being mentally challenged,” he said. “Umno must know that it is their own failures that led to Malays losing out in pursuit of their social and economic betterment, as compared with the other races.” During the rally organised by Perak Umno, Umno’s Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said that DAP was the enemy of Malays and Islam, and now that it was in power, would seek to remove the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Malay rulers. However, Arshad said that the rights of the Malays and that of the Malay rulers were well entrenched in the federal constitution. “If Umno, which had led the nation for the last 60 years, still says that the Malays and the Malay rulers need to be protected, then there must be something seriously wrong with the previous government’s policies,” he said in the statement.

Make Google view image button visible again: https://goo.gl/DYGbub

– Bernama

Make Google view image button visible again: https://goo.gl/DYGbub
