The Road Safety Campaign

Due to good feedbacks, I am creating this page for others and myself to post videos you have that shows bad driving habit, good driving or something similar to promote and educate better and safer driving in our beloved country.

For me, I drive everyday to everywhere in the peninsular due to my work that requires me to travel sometimes. I started this initiative a few months back but only now I am able to produce some material for the readers to watch and comments.

My ultimate goal is to educate people and promote safe driving and make driving a pleasure, without facing too many risk of an accident by learning about basic and advance skills, and ultimately applying these technique on the road.

Let us together promote safe driving to all Malaysians and make our roads a safe place

THIS is not to encourage road racing or illegal racing in any form. I just want to share my experience traveling and driving throughout peninsular Malaysia for a good 6 years. As some people would’ve known, driving is not just merely going from point A to point B, it is the manner of how you travel between those 2 points is what really matters.

I’ve been traveling a lot since I got my 1st car some 6 years ago. And to be honest with you, I’ve been watching MotoGP (formely known as World Grand Prix) and Formula 1 since I can remember being into life. I love motor racing more than I love football. Even to this date football is second to motor racing in my sporting interest.

If I were given the choice to pick between a professional career in GT racing or a professional football player for Manchester United, the answer will be the former, without second thought.

Racing discipline does not teach you just about speeding. The fundamental aspects of racing are, among others, awareness, reflexes, car control, patience and defensive driving. If everybody on the road applies these aspects on their everyday driving, you can only imagine how safe our road would be.

Let me put a brief explanation on how the above aspects, when applied on the road, can lead to a safer environment.

1. AWARENESS:
- In racing: awareness of the flags, stalled car, radio communication, pit signs

- On road: awareness of other slower cars in front, side and rear. Take notice of all the road signs and warning signs.

2. REFLEXES:
- In racing: how quick you can react in emergency (accident in front of you). The higher the speed, the faster you learn to react

- On road: the faster you react to a situation, the higher the chance you can avoid an accident

3. CAR CONTROL:
- In racing: rear wheel drive and high torque= over steer, wheel spin. Better car control improves your lap times.

- On road: put car into good balance after avoiding a dangerous situation, better handling in rain (u know how fast to go and how hard to brake)

4. PATIENCE:
- In racing: contrary to popular belief, racing driver is more patient than the average Joe on our normal road (including you!). They will always wait for the RIGHT moment to overtake, even if they had to follow another car for 20 laps or more.

- On road: the key to safety! If you can be patient for 20 laps behind a slower car, of course you can wait the right moment to overtake an 80-year-old grandpa on a single busy trunk road.

5. DEFENSIVE DRIVING:
- in racing: racing driver applies defensive driving when they ANTICIPATE what will happen in front of them and take the necessary measures to prevent from being involved in an accident. e.g.: slow the car down or take a different route

- On road: same. If you anticipate something is going to happen in front of you, then you can take necessary measures to avoid it. e.g.: slowing down, take a different route, honk, etc.

REMEMBER! When you took your driving license, they did not teach you the 5 aspects in details, especially Patience. But in racing, these are the BASIC knowledge that every driver has to have to become a pro race driver.

REMEMBER! Racing is not all about speed alone, there are more than just pure speed and gut-wrenching overtaking maneuver. Speed only does not kills, but recklessness and carelessness do. If a racing driver is careless or reckless on the track, he can be punished/ fined/ expelled/ suspension from the race immediately. Speed + careless can kill. Speed + reckless can kill. Slow + careless can kill. Slow + ego can kill. Slow + sleepy can kill.

If you think that speed alone kills, then every week any racing driver that pushes his car 300km/h on a straight line would have died mysteriously.

Take this scenario for instance. If a road that has a speed limit of 110km/h, and EVERY single driver drives at a speed of 110km/h, what you think will happen? Do you think them all going to die? If everyone drives at a constant speed 110km/h, there is much less tailgating and less overtaking because nobody has to push others because they are all on the same speed limit. If you reduce the chance of overtaking and tailgating, you automatically reduce the chance of an accident.

If you reduce the chance of accident, you reduce the chance of fatality. Only those who drive ABOVE the speed limit may have the chance of accident, but driving above the speed limit is speeding + reckless, and reckless driver may get into an accident.

If we all can apply these aspects of driving in our everyday driving, InsyaAllah, our road will be safer and everybody can drive with a smile on their face. I hope this article does educate me and somebody out there, and together we can make road a better place. AWARENESS & PATIENCE is key.

DISCLAIMER:
This is not a conclusive statement and should not be taken as-it-is or applied by anyone on any road in any means purely by reading it. I am not responsible for any mishap that might happen as a result of anybody heeding and applies this article into their driving. But if you benefited from it, that is great! THIS IS JUST AN OPINION THAT CHALLENGES CRITICAL RESPONSE AND FEEDBACK BY ANYONE. I AM TRYING TO EDUCATE FELLOW DRIVERS AND PRODUCE SOLUTIONS SO DRIVING WILL NEVER BE SO DANGEROUS AGAIN.
This was one of the events I covered a few weeks back. The location was Taman Botani Putrajaya. The location is nice and lots of photo opportunity inside the park. We spent about 1 hour there to do an outdoor session with this lovely couple..

These pictures were edited with vintage effect, an experimental editing..

For more photos can visit my WEBSITE

Thanks for visiting, have a nice day

Wedding @ Kellie's Castle

Photos & Text by: Ridhuan Abu Bakar (diwant)

IT HAS always been my dream to shoot any outdoor session at Kellie's Castle since the last time I went there not a long time ago. Actually I wrote an article about this place and I even mentioned how great it would be to someday shoot a wedding outdoor session here http://diwant.wordpress.com/2009/03/12/the-haunted-castle/ on 12th March 2009.

I guess my wish were granted, so me, Kamarul & Lina went there for an eventful outdoor session at the haunted castle, in the middle of the crowded visitors. But we managed to find our space and got the shots without anyone entering the frame, incidentally or purposely. The session also cost us a good deal of money.

My next wish, outdoor session on the East Coast beaches, particulaly Terengganu beaches. Maybe 3rd time lucky? I'll pray for it, hehe. Enjoy the pictures...

For more picture can visit My Webpage here

Super GT

THIS time I wanna show you guys some photos I've taken during the recent Super GT round 4 at Sepang F1 circuit using a full frame camera with wide angle lens. Full frame always amazes me in every way. Eventhough this was taken with a film camera, I really liked the colour output of the pictures.

Taken with a Canon EOS 5 + EF 17-40 f4 L

For more pictures visit my website at http://diwant.wordpress.com

Eventhough this was taken with a film camera, I really liked the colour output of the pictures.

Taken with a Canon EOS 5 + EF 17-40 f4 L

Abolish MLM Movement

Abolish MLM Movement

Objective: To educate and prevent people from joining MLM scheme in any form.

Why MLM is a pyramid scheme?
-	Emphasize more on signing downlines than selling products.
-	The more downline you have, the more commission you get. It’s not based on product.
-	You get extra commission if your downlines signed up another downlines, as if you get extra money by not working.
-	Start up capital is so high, whereas the joining fees is higher than the inflated product that is COMPULSORY to buy in a package.
-	The products are usually sold at an inflated price from its original price.

Why MLM is a dirty business:
-	You may get rich without selling any product, whereas the MLM companies always tells you that it’s not a pyramid scheme because they sells product.
-	You are promised thousands and millions in return with minimal or flexible work, but in reality the system will make 80% or more of the members lose money.
-	You are taught to deceive and lie to lure prospective members with promises which does not make sense.
-	When you joins an MLM, you actually joining a ‘SYSTEM’, not a direct selling entity. You’re part of a system that manipulate others for personal gain.
-	Selling products at a very inflated price from normal market.
-	All the hard work is not worth it. Your uplines are getting far more commission from the amount of work you put in.
-	‘Marketing Plan’ that is highly debatable from the Syariah perspective.

Why MLM has to be banned especially from Muslims:
-	The promises and sweet talks that are being said is just gimmick.
-	More than 90% of the members who joins any MLM will lose their money, what else gain profit.
-	Proven to be a destructive factor among human beings, friends, families, relatives and colleagues.
-	You MUST deceive in order to successfully lure any prospect.
-	Pyramid Scheme which covers its act using the MLM platform is highly debatable from the Syariah point of view.
-	The return (if any) is not worth all the hard work you made, while your uplines are getting more from what you’ve been working on. You will only gain profit when you managed to sign downlines, LOTS of downlines.

Among famous lines being used by these MLM agents in the past 20 years:
-	“Our product is the first of its kind in the world.”
-	“We are not pyramid scheme, we have product.”
-	“If you fail in MLM, it is because of your own failure, not the system.”
-	“This is you chance to become a millionaire with little capital!”
-	“Very flexible working hours, you can do it anywhere, at home, day or night.”
-	“With the amount of income you will get with MLM, you can think of retire early and spend the rest of your life on vacation.”
-	“Our system is different from other MLM in the market. In short, our system is unique!”
-	“If I can, of course you can!” Actually, you can actually become a millionaire, being that you are one of the earliest to have joined the scheme, but you will be a millionaire at the expense of others who didn’t make it.

Why MLM companies rarely being prosecuted even if they can be proven operating a Pyramid Scheme:
-	The owner of the company has a very powerful political connection.
-	A very complicated and complex ‘marketing plan’ together with a few ‘bonus compensation’ makes it easy to twist facts.
-	By insisting that their business are based on product, but actually the product is just a diversion.
-	Rarely the victim files a complaint because they were taught in their mind that “if you fail in MLM, it’s not because of the system, but because of yourself.” So they will feel embarrassed and humiliated.
-	They have huge fund to ‘shut-up’ serious complainants.

Why people obsessed with MLM?
-	Being told that by doing MLM you can achieve all your monetary ambitions that normal worker could not.
-	The ‘business talk’ is similar to mind control technique.
-	Been shown pictures of people who made it big in MLM which is mostly fake.
-	In state of denial. Cannot acknowledge their own dumbness for joining MLM, so they started to woo others so they will look smart.
-	Being told that MLM is the wave of the future, the new breed of marketing, whereas MLM has been around for almost 3 quarter of a century.
-	Most of the members are from the low-income group. When most of the people from this group been promised all sort of things especially concerning monetary, they almost instantly blinded by it. Remember that desperate people will resort to irrational thinking.

Food for thought:
-	Almost all products being offered by MLM companies originates from other continents, especially Europe. It is because it is quite impossible for any person to go to Europe just to check the availability of the said manufacturer.
-	Is there any logic that a bottle of juice cost you RM300? The reasoning that it’s ingredients are made from rare materials and processed with the latest technology cannot be proven beyond reasonable doubt. Certificate and awards can be made by anyone.
-	8/10 of your family members, relatives, colleagues or friends will tell you negative feedback about their experience about MLM. Why?
-	Rarely do we hear architects, engineers, doctor or pilot joining MLM. Most of the people comes from the ‘never-enough money’ group.
-	In Malaysia, there are about 1700 MLM companies, how many are genuine millionaires?
-	If you join an MLM, you were being pressed about the ‘system’, not the product.
-	Almost all MLM companies sells health product.
-	If the percentage of failure in MLM is 80%, does that means that 80% of our people are stupid?
-	Normally, an MLM company that’s been operating for more that 5 years have other businesses like property and others. But MLM-only companies never got through the 5 year period.
-	Do a research about ‘Skim Pak Man Telo’ (an old pyramid scheme in the 90s that’s been banned by the govt.) and MLM that you know. Find the differences and similarity between the two and compare it.
-	A pyramid without a base will doom to fall. You cannot build something without its foundation, it will finally collapse.

Edit: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/873125 for the Bahasa Malaysia version of the text
