Hey guys, sorry to make a topic of this. I searched the first few pages of the forum and don't see an existing thread. This post is for me to talk about and release some stressers I'm facing, and if others also want to let some steam off, do feel free.

The reason I'm venting here is because there are people here. I could do it on Facebook or something, but I don't want some of my friended people to know about these stresses.

So here goes:

I'm not feeling stressed per se but I've recently been assailed by major stressors all around me. I thought it would be good if I vented while I'm not actively stressed YET.

A bit of background, my dad passed away a couple years ago and left the house in myself and my brother's name. I'm sure you know where this story is going. I'm not going to give my side of this, but suffice it to say, it's the usual family feud. Also, my parents separated decades ago, and after my dad passed away, my mom and her partner came to live with me. I took them in, no questions asked. I sacrificed and let my heart be broken by allowing many sentimental objects be thrown away in order for them to be comfortable.

So, since a couple weeks ago, I noticed they were being relaxed in terms of house security. They let the main gate be left open all the time.

The reason for that is because the gate's motor is damaged and it is difficult for the elderly to manually open and close the gates. I haven't had it repaired because it will always short circuit when there is heavy downpour. In the past, my dad would turn off the gate's main power when there's heavy rain to prevent the motor from shorting out. As my dad has passed away, the motor shorted out and required repair on a regular basis. I can't turn the power off because I'm working. After paying for repairs a few times in a short period, I surrender and just manually open/close the gate. This was before my mother moved in with me but when I explained the situation to her and her partner, I can see they don't understand what I'm saying. And since the motor has been left unrepaired for so long, an entire replacement will be required to get it going again, and I'm unwilling to spend that amount as they either don't understand or refuse to listen and understand what is needed to be done in order to prevent the motor from shorting out again.

So anyway, last week they let a bunch of people come into our house. Those guys offered to buy a certain antique cabinet which belonged to my mom. They gave a pretty good price, so everyone's happy. But then those guys started asking about buying my collection. I'm a toy collector and there are some rare items in my collection. Normally I don't care (although I don't like it) when they let strangers into the house because the strangers don't understand the value of my collection. But since these guys wanted to buy my stuff, it showed that they know that this stuff can be sold at a good price.

So I told my mum and her partner that I would like them to be more careful in the next couple weeks. Don't leave the gate open etc. But her partner, who is a GREAT guy by the way, because he really takes care of my mum. She would be dead several times over had he not been there to support her. But he has a certain stubborn/prideful personality type. Because he doesn't understand the value of my things, at first he was thinking I was chiding them for not exercising better security. So he retorts that I should provide a lock for the gate rather than "complain" that they don't follow security. I tried to focus him to understand, I want to increase security because those strangers know the value of my items. But he retorted by saying/boasting things like "Don't worry, if anything goes missing, I will compensate you TEN TIMES!" or "If those guys rob you, I know people in KL, we will find and beat them up!".

This guy is just a normal person nowadays. I don't know if he hung around with a rough crowd in his youth or not, but right now, he's hardly a samseng.

I admit, I did get angry and pointed out I had to sacrifice a lot for them, but he retorted that I didn't sacrifice anything for him. But anyway...

In my mind, I wanted to find a solution, so I said I would move all my things into the spare room we were using as storage. They had a few items there. But not much. I was worried about robbers coming so I had to quickly move my belongings into the room. There was sufficient space for all our things but they wanted to get their things out because they thought I would block it with mine. Which is fine by me, as it gives me more space, but my main concern was to move my stuff, ASAP. I had no time to wait for them to move their things first.

So today, while moving their boxes out for them, he wanted to move his boxes himself. I said, no need, I'll do it for you. He took it as a sign of disrespect because he thought I was looking down on him. I wasn't. I'm doing it because I'm the younger guy and to me, it's proper/respectful of me to do the heavy lifting. One thing led to another and we had a shouting match. I have pretty high EQ, so I accepted the blame to calm him down.

The other big stresser I'm facing is that my brother wants to sell our family house because he wants money, and he wants money NOW. I don't want to sell the house but I'm willing to if the price is right. But he wants money quick, so he's willing to sell cheap. After I noticed he put a sign on the house, I took the sign down and told my mother, I don't plan to sell the house. At least, not unless certain conditions are met. And that I'll talk to and make it clear to my brother. I was planning to go meet him in person to explain the situation clearly.

Unfortunately, my mom told him I didn't want to sell.

Now he thinks I don't want to sell at all. And is insisting on getting his share of 300K from the sale of the house. He refuses to wait or even try to shop for a better price/buyer. He refuses all compromise that doesn't involve him getting RM300K. He even said I should take a bank loan to buy him out.

I now think he probably has some sort of debt.

In a couple weeks, I'll have to go meet my relatives and hope they will help me buy my brother out. I understand if they would be reluctant though, as they are already old and would gain nothing from this. I also haven't been keeping in close contact with them. Even if I sell and give them their share, which would be more than the buyout amount, it may be a number of years before that happens. I can only give the amount to their children/my cousins.

I recently came across a sentence in a show or something, "Don't let them misunderstand kindness for weakness". I feel like people are taking my kindness for weakness, and when I stand my ground, I am being blamed. At the end of the day, all I have to do is be selfish to solve my problems. My brother is pressuring me, but all I have to do is not sign, and there is nothing he can do without crossing the line (murder or arson). I don't think he'd do that. But not signing or coming up with 300K would mean losing my relationship with my brother (although to be frank, it is illogical, but I'm tempted to officially cut ties with him after this case is settled).

Sorry if this venting is not allowable. I expect no one to really read this, but I needed a place to let it out, even if no one reads it.

tl;dr, People are trying to exploit the fact that I'm a pushover and are angry because I won't figuratively/literally kill myself.

Career advice needed

Hi guys, need some advice. I have worked for a certain company for a few years, but was highly stressed, so I was looking for a new job for a long time. I finally found one. The new place used to be a big listed company but is under new ownership. The new owner has cut down staff from hundreds to just a handful these past few years. But now want to rebuild the business, which is why they hired me to be a coordinator. They were very anxious for me to come in ASAP! As they're bringing in new machines and wanted me to be in from the ground up.

Problem is, now that I'm in the company, I've lost confidence. I thought that hiring me shows their sincerity and commitment to rebuild the company, but now I think they're just big talk only. I was expecting a lot of work but instead, they have no work or plans for me. I'm trying to learn what I can but basically forced to lepak most of the time. I don't think they've even gotten ready my employee documentation/records yet. Now I hear some KEY workers don't plan to stay after this month.

I don't know what to do. Search for new job of course, but would I be eligible for any government schemes? Unfortunately, I resigned from my old job, not retrenched. But I dunno if my current boss is play play only and I will get terminated without documentation at any time.

Any advice? Thank you.

I recently came across a Kickstarter project by Reaper Miniatures called Bones. Here's the link:

For 100USD + a flat rate 25USD for international shipping, we can get almost 200 minis made from polyvinyl plastic.

This sounds like a good deal to me, but I'm not a mini collector, nor do I know how to paint. Is anyone else aware of this? What are your opinions? I've already asked a friend to order for me, but if you guys think it's a fishy deal, I can ask him to cancel.

First off, I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this.

Problem
Recently, I have been unable to get into certain sites which I had no problem doing so before. I get the "Problem loading page" error message. I believe that my computer's being web filtered somehow, as I was able to browse those sites before. Unfortunately, this web filtering has blocked a couple sites that are perfectly innocent that I use.

Possible cause
I recently had modem problems and had to buy a new one. My new modem is a D-Link DSL-520B.

Is it possible this modem has in-built web filtering options? If so, how can I turn it off. And if not the modem, where on my computer should I search to turn the filtering off?

Edit: This item apparently has a built-in NAT/SPI/DoS firewall and Intrusion Detection System. Is this the 'cause? How do I turn it off?
