People Who Studied Master and Phd Fulltime in Msia

Hi Guys,

I am thinking of doing my full time master in (Computer science) and hoping to do a phd with it in Malaysia. I was wondering anyone who have completed their master or phd in any field in Malaysia in terms of career prospects?

Some questions though :

1) How long did you take to complete the master and phd full time?

2) How did you career path went after you obtained either master/phd? or what are the available career options ?

3) What is the difference between Msc (computer science) and software engineering?

4) Is UTM programme for both Master and Phd highly recognized?

Changing Career Path at 30 Years Old

Hi All,

I would like to get some serious advice regarding my future and my career path. Currently I am in engineering line, in my 30s and I would like to change my career path to pursue my passion which is teaching. I didn't realize this earlier out of peer pressure of family and friends into pursuing my engineering degree and i personally regretted it.

I feel that I want to change my career into a teaching line as this is something i personally passionate about. I just love teaching so much and would like to make it as my career.

Firstly, I have tried google to find some teaching courses but there are a lack of information. I have a degree in engineering (honours) from a renown university. Currently residing in Johor...

I was wondering :

1) Do I need to gain a diploma in teaching to start teaching?

2) If I wanted to enter Government sector such as teaching in schools, how can i go about it?

3) Is teaching diploma or english TESOL diploma is better ?

4) Where can i start applying for education qualification in Johor and what are the course fees ?

If best, i would like to join schools to start teaching and want to make it a permanent job for myself. I really hope i can find some helpful answers.

Ghost Stories and Paranormal Thread

Dear /K,

This thread I hope we can make it as an official thread for all compilation of ghost stories and paranormal cerita for easy reading. Inspired by the 'experienced creepy thread', i think it's time we have an official thread for all the cerita cerita yang menyeramkan and therefore you all are welcome to share stories except for cerite cerita sejuk. That one cannot la. haha

So to begin with. I have three paranormal/ghost encounter that i personally encountered in my life.
Whether it's beyond belief (fact or fiction), it's really up to you.

First story :

Around 11 years old, went back to kampung and stayed with my grandmother. During those days, the house was a wooden house that is elevated above the ground by a metre. One night, i went to sleep early in the bed, and once i closed my eyes, i saw a figure in the darkness with greenish light trying to spooked me, open back my eyes and cried.

Second story :

Use to wake up early to go study, wake up early morleng and always walk myself to the nearest bus stop but this time have to take back alley cause main road got stray dogs, scared to kena attacked so took back alley to another road. At the end of the short alley got those man made stones for sitting, as i walk closer, notice something whitish like a figure on the stone, stop and ran back home with the speed of a cheetah.

Third story :

Sleeping in room but the room door was not closed. Suddenly without wind, the door closed by itself in a loud bang and the door didn't open or reflected back. My dad open the door and scolded me why i closed the door loudly. Windows all closed sure no wind.

Being a Good Listener Is Hard ...

There's an uneasy feeling that has been ongoing over me these past few days. It's simply just a feeling of disappointment that how people will treat you when you listen more than you talk.

As the old saying goes, "God gave us 2 ears and 1 mouth", the reason simply being you need to listen more than you talk. I used to talk more when i was a teen since I'm just a natural speaker but recently I have changed my mindset to decide to listen more and talk less and mind you, I been doing this for a couple of years and realized one universal truth.

"Its hard to be a good listener, cause you'll be judge and insulted".

I realize that when I became more of a listener and talk less, i tend to be labelled a weakling, someones who's quiet and do not have initiative. Worst still, when you listen more to people, they tend to abuse you whenever you ask a question. The queries purpose is to invoke more conversation so that we do not fall into awkward silences that make the communication process uncomfortable.

I simply realized that when you tend to listen, you are quiet and let other people speak their thoughts and understand what they are going through and once the moment you let your opinion out, the person will scrutinize you, such as "what do you know?" or "you know meh?". I personally do not know and that's why I asked you the questions is to know the answers. Even if you do not, why is there a need to be rude ?

I believe, our society mindset is whoever is the aggressive talker is the right one. I just feel that this kind of mindset is poisoned on so many people, that people automatically become rude even when they are in a normal dialogue. But it doesn't stop me, I will still listen more than I shall speak, that's the way

Have you ever consider to do this ?

Actually i just have this idea, can make you more cool especially when u chit chat with girl
and you have very limited time to impress her or maybe your relatives or family or fwens.

You see, when people around you like said something funny and everyone goes "bwahahaha"..

You don't "bwaahahhaa" with them. You don't laugh after hearing something funny . Just be quiet
and once everyone finish laughing

You just say " I LOL'ED' litterally, and i think thats cooler than "bwahahaha"

Even though the future problems in the pc not related with the things that being fixed. Why people always
have this kind of notion?

You helped solve their problem in their pc for free, and spend your time and energy around a few hours
and then can get it solve but then after few weeks due to they inadequacy of not taking care the computer well,
a new problem comes and then blame its your fault..

Building a Gaming Rig PC (Not High End)

Been using my current cpu for around 5 years already, feel like want to upgrade to a pc that can play
games with higher end graphics. May i know whether i can get one gaming pc below RM1K ?

If can, maybe i can go to the shop and ask the computer guy to help me assemble ? I never assemble myself before and i dont intend to waste time playing around with it.

I don't really need a high end super pc just normal gaming pc which can play latest games such as euro truck simulator or crysis or left 4 dead 2 or something......

Can anyone recommend a shop that can help me build one pc which such budget in Johor Bahru ?
I know danga mall many shop computer one but donno which one is reliable.

Used to buy original DELL pc but cannot upgrade the hardware...a lot of problem.

Resigning from a job without a job...

I am currently on the crossroads. Approaching middle life and i feel that my current career path is stagnant.
Somehow feel like tendering my resignation by next month, because of several reasons. Job wise not much prospects and end up just working for the paycheck at the end of the month. I tried searching for a year already but respond wise only a couple of calls. But the nature of my job made me have less time to venture out because get tired easily and not really that motivated to look for a job outside. It kind of became like a comfort zone for myself.

Why i do feel like resigning is that, if i resign without a job, i feel that under that circumstances, i might be more proactive and hardworking in looking into one and i do hope i can go into another new industry, probably venture into something that i feel my talent can be used more. Second, thought of studying another course but thought of studying those private colleges where there are shorter time and cheaper fees. Because if i dont venture out now, i might keep procastinating again and again.

Family wise not that supportive of course, to them, as long money comes every month, they are okay with it but to me, i am looking for growth and happiness and not salary.

Just need some advice, whether if i should leave my job ? eng field... does anyone have similar experience in leaving a job without a job waiting ?
