gpu upgrade for ryzen 5 3600, 1080

running gtx 1060, ryzen 5 3600, 1080 hd display.

start to have display totally gone while pc light still on, seems like display issue.
2 times.

guessing gpu issue, been using it a long time.

so start researching about gpu upgrade.

criteria:
- don't need ray tracing or dlss, purely 1080 hd.
- high preference on temperature and power consumption, as these make wear-and-tear the most.
- budget around 1k, not bothering with over 2k.

initial research suggest rx 6600 or rtx 3060.
initial finding:
- so little choices for amd gpu when i browsed through few pc price lists.
- rtx cost about 30-40% extra.
- just read a post about amd gpu driver causing issue like at 3 months ago

when my bitdefender sub is about end soon, i looking for new security software and definitely not that shit.

initially decided on getting fsecure, but online payment keep failed, call bank tell me card security code fail, which i verify is not.

at the end, bought eset, no need using card, online bank transfer, no need worry fucking auto-renewal.

eg:
today 1/mar/2023, paid plan last until 30/mar/2023.
on 25/mar, topup new 30 days plan,
expect valid till 30/apr, but the result is 25/apr, because based on last bought plan, ignoring existing leftover days.

are all telco prepaid plans work in this way?

bank blocked steam online trx

today can't use card to pay steam.
have to call the bank to verbally authorize online trx from last year.
today call in, bank staff told me they blocked/removed steam from their merchant list, in short they don't deal with them anymore.
asking why, no detail.

trying to google, no detail.

anyone know what zhit happening?

anyone know better and secured alternate way to pay steam?

hidden wifi ssid issue

i used to hide my wifi, no issues in past.

i replaced my router which the new one is supporting wifi 6, Asus rt-ax86u, like half year ago.
still hiding wifi ssid, working ok.

now recently i replaced my phone, new one samsung a52, running android 11, can't auto connect to the wifi, unless the ssid is broadcast/non-hidden.

both devices are updated latest updates.
is it the issue due to the new phone, or the router?

when i try to change broadcasting ssid to hidden, the router admin page warning about this will break AiMesh thingy.
i'm not sure whether AiMesh is being used at all.

what i noticed in the wifi setting page, on my old router, i have to setup 2 separate wifi ssid for 2.5ghz and 5ghz.
but on this new router, the setting is 1 wifi ssid for both bandwidth. i'm guessing aimesh may by used implicitly somehow.

i'm sharing my experience using credit card, which is bad.

there is this thing call "pre-approved" transaction in the world.
in layman term, u-will-get-charge-even-u-didn't-approve-that-trx

when u using credit card for online trx, like purchasing a (software) service, this "pre-approved" trap will come with it implicitly, and it won't show or tell in the trx pages u went through.

typically most software service with license for 1 year. buyer generally pay an amt for X year(s) to use it.
after X year(s), when come to the expiry and renewal, the company by default will auto charge ur card to extend that license, whether u aware about this or not is irrelevant to them.

if u do NOT like this auto-renewal thing:

1)
if u did or only can use credit card for this kind of trx.

spend extra efforts to go through the acct u created at that company, look for this option, disable it. do a print screen as evidence.

2) don't use credit card, look to use debit card on new acct or empty $ acct, which u will manage the $ in that acct personally and manually when u plan to use it for online trx.

debit card annual fee $8

i paid bitdefender security software for 1 year service on 2020.

b4 the license expire on 2021, i paid for another 1 more year, planned to activate it after the license expired.

on the license expire day, the company performed an auto-renewal charge my credit card through paypal, without my acknowledgement.
at full price about 90 usd.

i sent email to paypal to cancel that transaction as it is WITHOUT my approval. paypal did NOT cancel it, stated it is valid transaction.

i contacted maybank to cancel that transaction as it is WITHOUT my approval. maybank did NOT cancel it, stated it is valid transaction.

i sent email to bitdefender to cancel and refund that auto-renewal, they did NOT cancel and refund that, taichi-ing to want me to cancel my report on paypal.

2nd reason, they popup window on ur window desktop luring u to buy more their stuffs

it's a security software, paid to do what it supposed to do.

but they also POPUP window in ur desktop for more $.

spamming ur email about biz practically is a norm nowaday, they did that, i will just accept that.

asus rt-ac68u router for maxis fibre

i'm trying to use my asus rt-ac68u router for maxis fibre, but doesn't worked.
wonder what am i missing.

previously using this router for unifi, with iptv and deckphone.

now switched to maxis fibre, only the internet, no iptv or phone.

i'm practically using the same settings as what i have been using for unifi, just change the pppoe login info, but not working.

i also have a physical lan cable connection to the router from my main pc, i forgot connected to which lan port. wonder could this be the cause.
but i can try that later for each ports.

now using maxis fibre and its wifi 6 router, comparing to previous internet exp:
- initial internet browsing kind of got hiccup, like at times when start browsing a site like facebook, need to wait like 2-3 seconds, then only contents will pop. but once this initial hiccup is over, it's smooth. wondering is this due to dns lookup. will test using google dns later.

- household members reporting wifi connection at times also got hiccup. i tried use back my previous wifi booster, but it no longer working.
i'm guessing because of the wifi bandwidth management of wifi 6 is not compatible with prev wifi spec equipment, as wifi 6 no need to create 2 separate ssid for the 2 different bandwidth, but prev wifi spec does need to do this.

not sure the pppoe login info (pwd) i got from the call support is correct, tempting to change that pwd in the maxis router, but if it proved wrong, i dunno the correct one and have to wait for their support again without internet, so not doing this.

if anyone have similar experience and know certain finicky changes, hope u can share.

maxis fibre router

i just switched from unifi to maxis fibre, over 1 day.
it comes with the new wifi 6 router

got a sudden stop of lan/wifi working but the router all green lights, reboot it seems ok later.

my main pc is connected through wired lan cable, so far so good, but i noticed lagging in 1 online game, star wars battlefront 2, most time got notify by the game connection is poor.

other household members after 1 day reporting slow internet while watching video sometime.

my current wifi setup compare to previous:
previous (unifi) vs maxis fibre
- using own router (using google dns), vs maxis new router, all their default settings
- using 1 wifi booster for 2nd and 3rd floor household members, vs no booster, only using maxis router, but tested wifi signal quite good at 3rd floor

should i change back to use my own router and booster?
anyone has similar experience using maxis fibre?

i decided not to keep using this, as when i want to replace the parts, the filter components come with no proper description or labeling what it is.
this is definitely unprofessional.

i'm currently looking to replace it.
kind of interested in the gravity water filter, like this

my criteria are:
- using ceramic filter, so it can be clean and maintain easily.
- using active carbon to absorb chemical stuffs, this should be cheap and typically can use long time.
- don't like uv light, which need power supply.

i almost decided to get this product, however the water feeding is kind of lousy.
water have to be pour in from top manually.

has anybody see or use a system that can ease this water feeding more easily, like a direct water connection from water faucet?
