Job Market in the current downturn

Hi everyone,
In the current uncertain economy both locally and global, is there any obvious reduction in recruitment based on your expereince in applying for job? Anybody offered lower salary? Cut staff numbers?

Heard that even in UK, US, Singapore, China/HK and Au the big investment banks are hurting and and not recruiting to replace those who left. This could meant less opporutunity for overseas employment. Only one place seems boomtime- Middle East. PPl also expect China to slow after the Olympics esp on the manufacturing side as US and EU are their biggest customers. First sign of downturn, reduce spending on leisure eg gym, restaurents-I think u can see some effect here alreayd.

Any experience/ rumors/ stories/ etc welcome
