Need some advices on purchasing used car from private owners:

What are the things I will need to watch out? I understand it would be a good idea to ask a mechanic to inspect the car. And hope the owners have all the service records. Anything else?

How would I know the car is legit? What info do the owners need to provide to prove the car belong to them? Not just some "borrowed" cars.
