Form 6: First Semester (batch 2012/2013) Thread

Am I too early to start this thread?

I think we can gather here to discuss about all sorts of things, including which streams we are going, the assessments that we need to do later, and the exam that falls on 5-8 November. Basically, the entire school life.

But of course, let's not be worried about those troubling assessments and exams yet.

Anyone is a lower 6 students this year? Introduce yourself so that I can list you here, for doing so it'll be easier if we want to contact each other.

compulsory subjects: PA, MUET.

Science Stream

1. justarandomboy - MT+CHEM+PHY
2. zZNekoChanZz - MT+CHEM+PHY
3.
Your Favourite Book Author?

Hi, I'm not sure whether this is the right thread or not, but please help me with this question:

Who is your favourite storybook writer? (The storybook are BM, BI and Chinese only. If possible, one favourite writer for each language).

I'm helping someone who wants to know who the youngsters now favour. He organises book fair and sells books in schools so I wish to help him find out whose books are very famous and loved so that his sales can be good.

Thanks in advance.

Taking three sciences for STPM? Need advice.

I need some help

Is it okay for me to take 3 sciences for STPM? My school usually allows students to take only Biology or Physics, while the remaining 3 subjects will be mandatory. I have not decided my path. My interest is Biology, but then Biology pathway is pretty narrow, only Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry which are extremely competitive nowadays. (Biomed, Biochem and Biotech are not in my list because the pay is too low - my sister is a biomedical scientist, and the pay for even seniors that are pushing 50 is too low, approximately 2K a month only, and my parents say a man should not find a job that offer low salary because he is responsible for the family and the source of income - and my parents say these jobs are a bit unhealthy because less social life and is always in a lab).

So I have been considering Physics as well, since I have no reason to hate Physics. Engineering sounds great for me (only civil and chemical), but I prefer to stick to my very interest - Biology. But then, as I said, the path for Biology is narrow, and the competition is intense, so I believe taking Physics will open more doors for me. Should I fail to enter medicine/pharmacy/dentistry (competition intense, universities that offer these courses are also limited, most need interviews) I still am able to study Engineering.

I have no problems with self-study (I never attended tuition), but I am aware that I might have underestimated STPM. So I need seniors help. Anyone here has taken 3 sciences, or a fifth subject, for STPM? And should the semester-based system is implemented, do you think it's wise to make this decision?

I only intend to stay in Malaysia. I'm not from a very rich family, so I try my best to avoid studying A-Level which is costly. I'll save as much money as possible to study in university, especially if I aim for Medicine and Pharmacy.

Thanks in advance.
