Thunderbolt to Firewire 800

Ok guys,

So I bought a MBA 11" and now I'm stuck with no mini display port (I already have that cable from my previous MB Pro) to connect to my external monitor, and I'm stuck with no Firewire800 port to connect to my RAID drives.

So, question is: Is there a cable that is sold locally that is Thunderbolt to Firewire800? I need access to those drives ....

I'm about close to regretting the purchase. Sigh.

Hi all,

Just would like to help a friend out. He just came back from the Uk and is using an O2 (dont know which model - the touchscreen one). It has died on him and because he left his cable back in the UK, he has not been able to synch his data to the PC for 4 months now. So he would like to get it all back, but I have not been able to help him find the distributor.

Can anyone help by letting me know who the distro is now and how I can get in touch with them?

Hi all,

Just wondering if there are any graduates from MMU's Msc in Creative Multimedia programme?

What did you guys think of the programme? What is the standard like? Is it a well-run programme? Any particular supervisor that I need to look out for? Is it an acceptable Msc should I want to take it further overseas?

Any help and advice will be very much appreciated.

Problem description:

I can't connect using WiFi.

I've just bought a friend's old modem+router (both built in), and managed to get the internet working using cables on my desktop. So I tried using my notebook to connect using WiFi, but my notebook doesn't seem to see any network available at all.

I'm using Vista Business x64. I've set the router to WEP, and also to broadcast the SSID. I've also tried to set up a network manually by entering the exact SSID name and WEP key. All doesn't work.

Another thing is:

Connected to my notebook using cable, the line seems to sometimes become Local only (not local and internet). After restarting the router, I have to go into the router manually and under Gateway Status, manually click on the connect before I can get on the net.

Anyone can help me with this?

p.s. incidentally, there is also a bunch of other options in the router that I have no idea about like:

OK.

Let's just say you've only got the budget to buy 1 used FPS game.

Which would be it?

1. GOW
2. Lost Planet
3. COD3
4. *what else*

Would love to get GOW but am concerned that by the time I am competent enough in GOW, everyone would be playing Lost Planet already or something else on Live, which will then defeat the purpose of getting it.

Also, single player gaming, which is a better game?

Loading game onto drive

Heya,

Just wondering - to cut down on loading times, is it possible to download the DVD game onto the HDD and run the game from there?

Will also minimize on the DVD drive wear as well as the amount of heat produced.

About 95% set on getting an Xbox360.

Thing is, what are the different packages right now?

I've read the sticky above and have decided to get a Premium (I'm assuming Asian is best), but have also read about people mentioning Limited and DOA4 etc etc.

Any idea which I should go for (and more bang for buck, obviously )?

Also, if I'm an RPG buff, is the Xbox360 really such a good choice?

Higher speed RAM for overclocking?

Hi,

I just posted a thread in the hardware Q&A section asking if I could mount DDR667 ram onto a DDR400 mobo (the Asus A8N-E), and I was told that DDR667 is DDR2 and as such, can't be used on a DDR400-only mobo as the slots are different.

So, I need some advice. I'm planning to overclock my rig, but can't because of my RAM speed (my ideal processor speed equates to DDR400 running at 245/490). So since I can't mount higher speed RAMs on it, any other alternatives?

Or are performance RAM specifically for this (ie. DDR400 but can run at 500/600?)?

How noisy are P90s/P100s, really?

Just wondering . . . I've never played a P90/P100 loaded axe and am curious as to how noisy it is exactly, when compared to a regular single coil?

Does its higher output cause it to hiss/squeal more? Is it as bad with lights and PA as regular single coils?

Just thought I'd ask what would be a good amp to get for a budget of about RM1500?

I'm partial to Fenders right now coz my Frontman 25R sounds amazing with my Strat on the clean channel.

That being said, I'm curious to know what you guys think of other amps for about RM1.5k . . . to be mated with a Strat though . . .

Thoughts on the Nokia E61

Hi,

I'm really close to getting the Nokia E61 and was wondering what you guys thought about it. Nokia E61

I would actually really like to get a Windows Mobile OS device, and was looking at the HP HW6515 or the new HP HW6915, but those 2 have had some not so good reviews on the forums. The HW6915 is also supposedly not very much of an improvement.

The E61 has been getting good reviews so far.

My main criterias are:

1. QWERTY keypad
2. Wifi, GPRS, Bluetooth, and it would be great to have GPS built in as well.
3. Able to work with Microsoft office files
4. MP3 player
5. Easy to use for net browsing (good big screen)
6. Good battery life
7. Responsive even while multi-tasking

Also, I just had a look at the SE M600i and it looks really nice. Anyone tried it out before?

BIOS and CPU-Z processor speed different

Hello guys,

I just got myself an Opteron 165 and an Asus A8n-e mobo. I've been trying to get a modest overclock, but now the BIOS says 2.1Ghz, but when XP loads up everything indicates that it is still at 1.8Ghz.

Here's roughly what I did before hitting this stage.

I first used AIBooster to ramp it up to 2.0Ghz using just HTT. When I realized that everything I did on AIBooster to go higher just hung my machine, I uninstalled that and went to the BIOS.

At the BIOS level, it still displayed 2.0Ghz even without AIBooster. So I managed to push it up higher by increasing the HTT and also RAM and CPU voltage. I got to slightly more than 2.1Ghz.

Anything I did after 2.1Ghz wouldn't remain stable (windows would flicker, menus would disappear in XP etc), so I maintained it at 2.1Ghz and tried to play with some RAM timings. As soon as I changed any timings (even CAS latency from 3 to 2.5 or 2T to 1T), windows wouldn't load up (would hang on the hardware loadup screen). The worst was at first when the computer wouldn't start at all (not even BIOS). I had to reseat the RAMs.

Anyways, so I installed AIBooster again (wanted the temperature gauges) thinking that I'll just stick at 2Ghz. But now when I restart the machine, it would constantly reset to 1.8Ghz.

So I uninstalled it again, and found that the BIOS would show whatever Ghz that I wanted it to, but when WinXP loaded up, CPU-Z and my system would ALWAYS show that it is at 1.8Ghz.

Any ideas why this is happening and how I can rectify it?

Again, I'm using an Asus A8n-e mobo, Corsair Valueselect RAM, and Opteron 165.

I'm using Prime95 for burn-ins, and Memtest for RAM.
