external hdd freezing computer

I have a 1tb wd passport external hdd. The last time i used it the transfer speed was super slow (around 300kbps) and the next day the drive doesn't work anymore. I plug it into usb 3 the drive shows up in windows explorer with the right drive letter but no name anymore. If I try to open it windows explorer freezes and then crashes so I have to restart my dekstop.

hard disk sentinal also freezes and stops responding when i try to plug the drive in.

The drive still shows up in device manager as WD My Passport 25E1 USB Device.

Disk defrag and creating new partitions both refuse to open up when I have the drive plugged in
