PC auto starts after shut down

My pc was running fine all this while.. one day after I have successfully shut down.. a few seconds later.. it started up by itself again..

One thing did happen though.. I was cleaning my room and accidentally moved the case while my pc is on.. which caused it to restart.. could this have short my PSU?

I have checked and disabled all the wake by LAN, timer, mouse, keyboard in BIOS and in Windows.. I have also tried to change the power cable and plugged it into another socket in my Belkin surge protector..

Does this mean my PSU needs to be changed? Or is there something else I should be trying?

I am using I believe the Silverstone ST56F.. it's quite an old PSU.. and my motherboard is Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H..

Since the first instance.. it's happening constantly.. So now I have resorted to pulling the plug/turning the PSU switch off after I click shut down in windows.. Once the pc is on.. things seems to work just fine..

I am doubtful it's the power button either.. as once I re-plug the power cable.. or turn on the switch on the PSU.. it won't auto start itself up.. it's once it is started up once that it just can't shut down after..

the things is.. if it's shut off complete by me pulling the plug.. once I plugged it back in.. it won't auto start itself up again..

So.. short of sending it to PC repair shop to have a look.. I don't know what else I can try.. if it's a part which needs replacing.. I need to identify which part it is before proceeding further.. Any advice will help..

PS: someone from Tomshardware forum suggested it may be the power controller causing the problem.. but that would need a voltmeter to test it out I believe... which I do not have nor know how to..

Thanks..

PC Upgrade

Recently, I tried to play BF4 and find that my pc is lacking.. as it is laggy and will hang in the middle of the game.. I am also looking forward to AC4 Black Flag and GTA V... so, I am thinking of doing an upgrade on some of my parts..

I will be using the PC mainly for gaming and other normal usages like browsing and watching videos.. I won't be overclocking my PC..

I will be using the new parts most probably for the next 3-5 years.. with a possibility of upgrading the GPU and PSU 1-2 years down the road.. and I am hoping to not spend more than RM2000 on the 3 things..

I would like to have some advice on if my choices are ok.. or could be better...

Only thinking about upgrading the 3 parts below:-
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770
RAM: GSkill TridentX F3-2400C10D-8GTX / 8GB (4GB x 2) / 2400Mhz
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H

Things I won't be upgrading:
GPU: ATI Radoen HD 5770
PSU: Silverstone Strider 560W
HDD: Mixture of WD normal and Caviar Green

1. Should I be getting an i5 instead of i7 for CPU? I was reading some articles which states that future games will utilize more on multi-threading.. which was why I opted for a quad core 8 threads CPU.

2. Is 8GB RAM enough? Do I need a high performance RAM? Or should I opt for a cheaper RAM but go 16GB instead?

3. Will my PSU be sufficient to support everything? I am using Coolermaster Storm Trooper case, with an additional fan at the side panel.. other than the mouse and keyboard (Logitech G15 - not sure if it matters).. I will most probably have 3 additional USB devices connected to my PC from time to time.. I have a total of 4 HDD.. all of which should have normal power usage.. with 1 DVD-RW ROM.. I have checked using online PSU calculators.. it seems fine.. but I am just not too sure..

Thanks in advance for the advice..

PS: If I am really thinking about upgrading my GPU... what should I be aiming for and how much?

Which ATI brand for 5770

Hi,

I am looking for ATI's 5770 but don't really know which brand I should go with.. any recommendations?

I have looked at:-

Sapphire
HIS
Gigabyte
MSI
Asus

I have looked at some reviews and most says Sapphire is a good ATI brand.. but I went to the shops and they say MSI or Asus is better.. so which should I go for?

Thanks.

Graphic Card artifacts

I have been using my XFX GTS8800 320MB card for 2 years plus.. and suddenly lines started showing up one day while i was watching a movie...

according this site "http://www.playtool.com/pages/artifacts/artifacts.html" it seems that i have video ram artifacts.. but mine has green lines instead of red ones...

i have tried un-installing and re-installing the driver.. i even formatted my pc ... it was ok after the windows 7 installation.. i updated to the newest driver (downloaded from the nvidia site) then i turned it off, went to work, turned it on and the lines are back.. now it's always there no matter what i do.. the lines are also showing up during startup before reaching the windows screen...

the only thing i did recently before this happened was i updated my graphics driver to 196.21 and also updated the physX to the newest version.. could this update have caused this problem.. i have read in some forums that this could be what caused my problem...

does this mean my graphics card is done for??

If i were to get a new card, with the price around rm400, which could hopefully last me for the next 1-2 years.. what would you recommend??

thanks in advance...
