Recently I've upgraded my laptop from Win 7 to Win 8 using full format. There are some files i forgotten to backup (in Desktop folder).

Is it possible for me to recover them? If yes, how or where can I do it?

I've tried to use some trial software from the internet but to no avail.

Kitchen Sink & Hob location

Hi guys,

I'm currently rebuilding my kitchen which is old since its a subsale unit. Its a double storey house so you guys probably got the idea.

Currently its layout is like below:

I see most houses having the sink at the window at hob at the wall so they could install a hood and I wonder do i need to switch from their original location. If I ware to maintain the current layout (without hood), I'll have to install 2 fan on top of the window to suck out the oil from cooking (wok cooking mostly). The fridge would be moved next to the door. There is a 700mm space between the window and the door for me to fit the fridge. I'm planning to get a square single bowl sink (hce granite).

Any advice whether switching the location is a good idea? I'll rebuild the concrete top so would appreciate any inputs.

Renovation - Double Storey Quotation

Hi guys,

This is my first house and I'm going to start renovating my dream home.

I bought a subsale double storey months ago and just gotten the keys. Its not a big house (18x70 - already extended) but its about 15 years old so renovation is surely required.

I've manage to look for a contractor from a friend recommendation and got some quoting on the things I want to be done. However, I'm still looking for experts here for 2nd opinion whether they are reasonable in prices.

Items.

1. Flat Plaster Ceiling include installation. RM2.40psf
- Downlight and installation and wiring RM62 per unit around 50 units RM3100.
2. Masteroom floor laminating with BBL wood around 350 sqf (*after extension) RM2300
3. Kitchen concrete table top with 2x2 tiles (probably around 10 feet-15feet total) RM2500. Plumbing and pipe RM250.
4. Kitchen wall and floor tiles RM8.5 psf.
5. Toilet tiles, plumbing works all in (not including sinks, toilet bowl) RM3200 per unit (toilet size not big, probably around 10x5 sqf.)
6. Hacking, dismantle and disposal, and wall correction/smoothening RM3800.
7. Car porch tiles RM8.5 psf
8. Paint whole house RM3800.
9. Front door mother n son 4x7 with lock and all in. RM1600.
10. Window and case. 2x5 and 6x5. (those modern type with white case) RM950
11. Car porch extension and masteroom extension (master extend 8feet same level with car porch). RM50k all in including side brick wall and gate column (gate not included)

Total around 100k.

In the end, the house facade will be like a box with 2 windows (staying level with car porch. No balcony. Will try find sample pics to upload later). I personally felt is reasonable but would really appreciate feedbacks.

Paint bubbles due to wet wall

Hi guys,

Currently im facing some problems with my wall. Due to my neigbour unit have a higherground (hill slope type terrace housing dev), the wet soils underneath their unit effects the condition of my wall. The moisture slowly destroys the paint in the living hall.

Also it's only happening to the bottom part of my living hall, it's still not a good sight. Are there any permanent solution to this kinda issue?

Would like your opinion on whether its worth to buy an old leasehold property (around 65 years left).

The exact location particularly Taman Connought Cheras. Lets say I'm buying a 22x75 property with minor reno for stay at RM500k compared with nearby areas below

- Damai Perdana 20x65 - 550-600k - Freehold
- Segar Perdana 20x65 - 500-600k+ - Leasehold 80+ Years
- Sunway Cheras 20x65 - 600k++ - Freehold

Last choice:
Mahkota Cheras and Sungai Long - Freehold and within same budget but futher.

Alam Damai is out of budget

Worth to redo the car or change?

Hi guys,

I have a old Wira with me here. Its a 1.3M (4G13 ?) year 1994 (wawasan 2020 sticker) with no power steering.

The car is running ok all these while until few problems comes up and I have a slight feeling to change the car.

The car is bought 2nd hand from dads friend and the current mileage is only 95k (previous owner seldom use the car.)

The engine works fine and the power and pickup I get from 1.3 M is as expected (cant demand much). The max I dare to go is 120kmh because by reaching the speed, the wind noise is pretty strong and steering is dam light ard. Also I think the old gear box hard to go higher.

I'm using Shell RON97 so far because I heard ppl saying its a carburetor and 95 doesn't really works well. Izzit? I didn't try thou.

There is a few problems with this car at the moment and its not running now.

1. Yesterday the car break down. The small equipment next to the engine that supplies voltage to the plugs is gone. It needed to be change. How much do it probably cost? The nearby mechanic quotes me RM280 for it.

2. After further check, he notice that one of the nut holding the spark plugs is in not so good condition. The nut seems to lose its hold as the 'flower' is getting thinner. However, currently the spark plugs still able to hold its place. They suggest it might need a small overhaul to replace the nuts. The estimate the cost around RM500+.

3. I suspect my drive shaft and lower arms need to be replaces. I heard 'kuk' 'kuk' 'krak' 'krak' sounds on uneven roads or in a major turn. Shaft seems to had loosen a little after the mechanic check on it. Not sure how long can it still last.

It seems that the problem above needs to be fixed asap. Maybe item 3 shud be lower priority? Advice pls.

Those problems seems to come one after another and I'm not sure if I shud keep it and fix all those stuff once and for all or get a new ride.

If would revamp the car, I will need to...

1. Minor knocking and painting.
2. Change some lamps (Rear - Old)
3. Door Trim (e.g like Wira 1.5/1.6)
4. Non-leather seat wrap.
5. Absorbers (maybe - needs to check whether its working well)
6. Dash board (lowest priority because the problem is the dashboard cant hold the clock. The plastic inside had broken)

How much would that totally cost and izzit worth? If I would to get a new ride, mostly it would be p1/p2 (myvi, persona) as I wont wanna spend much in cars atm.

Any1 familiar with HR and legal?

I wanna check on behalf of my fren here whether izzit compulsory for the company to provide travel insurance to staffs traveling overseas for assignment?

Air asia damaged his luggage and air asia claimed that they are a low cost airline therefore have limited liabilities and only able to cover sgd30. Also, the air ticket is purchased by the company and not by own credit card therefore no free insurance usually provided by the card issuer provided.

The HR of my fren company ard confirmed that no insurance will be provided for staffs traveling overseas therefore staffs have to purchase themselves if they need. Any logic there?

Is there a legal rule in order to fight for the labour rights? I need to listen to experts advice on this matter.

Hi, was looking for a Color Laser printer for home or sub office use. Price range would be around 400-500.

Which brand shud i be getting? Ive seen HP Officejet 5600 at 400+. Also, HP Deskjet which is cheaper at 200-300. What is the main difference except speed? Any other brands that i shud consider? Canon? Brother? Xerox?

Do u guys know whether can i change the graphic card for my laptop or where to repair it? it seems my graphic card is either spoilt or burned. My screen turns wierd and can only see some images with plenty of lines with it and automatically reboot later. Any1 knows wat the problem and care to help? thanks alot.

Hi all. Currently i have a big and wierd problem happening to my pc. I'm currently on safe mode while writing this and i'll list down the problem i have.

1. I have run spyware doctor but i cant dl the latest update because the 'virus' seems to have blocked the connection.

2. I cant access any spyware & antivirus tools official website do download their software because 'virus' seems to blocked the connection so i rely on some software posted on rapidshare.

3. I cant deleted my current antivirus (mcafee) because the 'virus' seems to have detect it and causing BSOD to my pc. After uninstall, i didnt get BSOD anymore.

4. I cant use firefox during normal mode. Plugins problem or due to virus again? Eventvwr logs it as due to kernel32.dll

5. I cant open hotmail and yahoo mail. Yahoo mail is accessible only in classic mode.

6. My system constantly having run32.dll error for no reason and i didnt see any changes to my system.

7. Pc seems to be infected by Vista antivirus 2008 and i guessed i have removed it. Maybe there is something i fail to remove?

8. I cant download properly on normal mode. Downloaded applications gives error when running the .exe.

Pls help to give advise how to solve this problem guys, Appreciate it very much. Thanks in advance for the help.
