Asus N56 Review

Hello guys!

How’s life going? Hope you guys are doing well.

Anyway, what I about to write here now is the sneak peak on how N6 looks like if you were wondering. Yup the new Asus N Series which currently replace the previous N5.

Unlike its predecessor, this N6 uses matte type material as the front cover. If you take a closer look, it is somehow resemblance a wood surface. And oh yeah, the ASUS logo isn’t typical metal like – it’s white lighted when you turn on the notebook. Cool eh?

Let see what are the available ports and slots. This notebook comes with external subwoofer – yeah, the same old subwoofer similar like N5. I’m guessing that they will be doing the same for the subsequent N7,8,9…. And so, you can see the yellow jack which exclusively available for N5 and N6 so far.

As usual, it includes VGA, HDMI and LAN ports. Not missed out the speakers and microphone jacks. And… lastly, the significant part or the main key features of N6 is that all 4 of their USB slots are 3.0 (no joke, last tried the data transmitting speed is really 10x faster than 2.0. No worries when you wanna copy loads of high GB files)! Eh… Is USB 2.0 slots already phased out?

For Optical Drive, they uses Blu-Ray DVD Writer. But question is… how many of you uses/own Blu-ray other than having PS3 Blu-ray game? I still feel burning data on DVD is already sufficient, what’s more if you have Blu-ray?

Let’s open and see the interior. Cool black chiclet keyboard.

I know what you thinking, one glance… your first thought in mind is “copycat Macbook”. While this first impression somewhat normal for everyone but if you take a deep muse, what else color could elegantly replaced black keyboard on metallic grey surface else than the grey color? Blue? Red? Yellow? Green? I’m sure you or anyone wouldn’t buy if funny colors were added in already a premium look notebook.
Another interesting part is that their unique speaker design which resemblance ripple effect. You know like water drop onto the water surface? Yeah, I think that’s where their inspiration came from LOL.

The mouse pad is somewhat large and it have this Multi-gesture touch thingy that enable images or web browsing to scroll, rotate, enlarge, minimize, maximize blablabla… all the ability which touch screen tablet allows to.

Not to miss is their beautifully decorated white backlit under the black keyboard. So now it is solid reason why they chose black instead of gray (or any other funny color). If you go under the dark place, you can see the nice light effect and yes, no more eye squinting if your house went blackout XD

While the visual itself nothing much to see if you already experience full HD before, the sound quality is something you will definitely awe about. To experience fully, you will need to sit yourself inside a quiet room, fix in the subwoofer, put on maximum volume and yes, play around with MaxxAudio software which gives you more options to adjust its equalizer, bass, treble (and all whatever music enhancer thingy… eh.. I don’t know what is it called ) and… Voila! It’s like you are in Philharmonic orchestra – no sh*t – thanks to Bang & Olufsen Icepower speaker infused with the Asus Sonic Master technology.

Others, it will be similar like other notebooks and the weight part, is kinda heavy… well, no wonder it dubbed as Notebook PC. So, not much of recommendation if you want to take this around from Starbucks to Coffee Bean or from Old Town to your home, up and down everyday.
So that is all for my review, I hope you like and enjoy reading!

Hey guys!

I saw this promo on ASUS FB page and kinda interested to buy this X101H netbook. Price is damn cheap man, RM 699. But I was wondering whether is Meego OS is good to use? Any experienced user could tell me this?

Unboxing ASUS Zenbook UX21

Hey guys! newbie here! Please to meet yah *hand shake*!

This will be my first post in LYN forum, so I hope you guys will like about what I plan to write here (Noob alert!). Previously I have been surveying around on which notebook to buy until... I recently heard about a new range of notebook called Ultrabook. At first when I heard of Ultrabook, I thought of Ultraman and wanna see how ultra is Ultrabook, but it turn out to be a term to define an very thin and slim notebook... something similar to Mac Book Air. But I'm not sure Apple call it that or they use their own term. Well whatever it is, here's my story goes.

I'm not an iOS user, so Mac Book Air is already out of my list. Until I stumbled upon Ultrabook from Acer and Asus. Acer Ultrabook is known as Aspire S3 and Asus is called Zenbook. Like I said, I have been surveying around... I heard many says Acer is not that good laptop, they said fast overheating and stuffs like that. Even most of my friends said so. Some even said after using for 1 year like that, they go and replace with a new one... And yah, most of them say go for Asus. Although I admit that all notebooks are basically not perfect and surely will have flaws... but decision is still need to be made. And so, I have decided to opt Asus brand since they are first into motherboard for years before venturing into notebook business (based on their Product Guide).

And tah-dah, Asus Zenbook is now at my possession! Muahahahahaha! Now I shall present to you my ZENBOOK UNBOX review!

The BOX! Although it’s not much of significant to review here, box fetish like me wonder how does the package will look like? Is it worth keeping it or dump away? Well looking at it, it has kinda classy and elegant design. First impression when I looked upon this box, is like a sexy damsel posing with her legs spread wide open… *prevert thought* LOL. So, yup, worth keeping… for decoration purpose?

Installation guide and notebook user manual, nicely package in a spread out black box (hmm, I dunno how to explain). Oh, they also include a Cable tie band… well, to tie up the entangle wires.

The BRAVO envelop case. This is actually my favourite. Very nicely done and the choice of colour is superb, gives you the classy feel. The quality is sort of like as if you brought it from handbag shop… But I’m not sure how long can it last if I use like barbarian. I hope it does last.

Charger. Okay I admit, this kinda an odd charger. I never see before a charger adapter that you can pull out the 3-pins head. Sound violence but unique. Good this, this adapter is somehow light… oh yeah, dun have the heavy “brick” in between (erm.. what is that called?), just like your smartphone charger.

Being thin has its disadvantage. A lot of ports cannot be included unless the output port is small like USB port. So what Asus do here is provide external adapter for network cable and VGA which connect via USB and miniVGA port and also, a small pouch (same material like the envelop case).

The top cover. This is what Asus called, the “finely spun metal finish”. Actually I’m not quite fancy with the spinning texture but what I like about this is the whole body was made of metal (I think it’s aluminium). And yes, it really looks durable and you don’t have to worry if you accidentally knock on it.

How thin the Zenbook is? Very slim I must say. I like the converging design… if you look from the side, it does look like a cleaver knife if lying on flat ground. Wonder if it can actually cut an apple with it? XD

On left side, there’s miniVGA port, USB 2.0 port and earphone jack. Then another side, you can see miniHDMI port, USB 3.0 port (you can see the blue plate inside) and DC adapter jack. I think the “bulb symbol” is sort of loading light – it blinks each time it reads the hard disk.

The backside. It somehow surprise me when I look at this angle… my first thought is where’s the battery? Well… it should be embedded somewhere… LOL XD Anyway, I like the plain finishing. No nonsense sticker around except for one tiny strip of Serial Number sticker.

Let’s open and see… From side view, if you really look at side view (not based on this picture’s angle), you can see… it does looked like “L” shape. I got one comment though, since the front tip is very thin… it’s kinda difficult to open quickly if you have thick fingers like me.

The top view after opening. As you can see, there is no deep gap in between the alphanumerical button on the keyboard. Dust is not easily enter under the buttons. The touchpad area is also quite large.

The Intel Core i5 and Windows 7 stickers. Although it’s nothing special… but this is the first time I see the stickers in monochromatic color.

The speaker is stretched across in between the keyboard and LCD. And yeah, you can see the cursive word written there “UX21 Series Ultra Slim”.

And yes, the audio is powered by Bang & Olufsen ICEpower. So far I tried with instrumental musics, you can hear the details of each instruments crystal clear. However still in a place full of noisy crowds, the sound is not as loud as the usual 2.1 or 5.1 PC speakers. Seems that notebook speaker does has their limitation no matter how good the audio is.

Now, let’s on the Zenbook. I must say the brightness of the LCD is bravo. Unlike the typical notebook, the LCD does not really affected by the light reflection. In fact the LCD is bright enough even if you are under the sunlight. No annoying distraction.

Other highlight features such as 2 second Instant On is no nonsense by Asus. It does deliver the message clearly: You put it in standby mode (close the Zenbook lid for 30 seconds. Open the lid and it will wake up within 2 seconds. Just like smartphone. According to them, the contributing factor is that they are using Super Hybrid Engine II technology).

So that’s it my unboxing review. Well, need to play more with this Zenbook and fully utilize its capability till the max. See how long it can actually last. But to me, so far everything is satisfying.

For the price wise... hmm, it's kinda expensive for 11.6" LCD, but it worth buying after all the above consideration. I bought it for RM 3,299.

So hope you guys like my personal review
