New subforum for film?

How about a Garage Sales > Cameras & Photography subforum for film cameras and film related items?

I see a lot of threads for film cameras in the Digital SLR forum and also in the Compact/Prosumer forum, when film SLRs are not digital and are neither compacts nor prosumers. So if I'm browsing for film cameras and related items, I need to look in two forums that have nothing to do with film at all in their descriptions.

How about a new subforum, maybe "Film Photography"? And all the film SLR, LOMO, Polaroid threads can have a single home

Milestone issues

So i plugged in my AP Milestone to my PC and ran the Motorola Software Update, in hopes that 2.2 will get flashed.

Everything went smoothly until the update stopped and my phone was stuck with "SW Update In progress... " on the screen. The Motorola program on my PC had disappeared.

I waited for a bit but nothing happened to my phone, so I took out the battery and rebooted it. Then it booted into the bootloader and said shows "Err:A5,69,4E,00,3D".

Tried to boot into Recovery (i rooted my phone with openrecovery a few months back) but same, won't load recovery, won't boot Android either. Same error message.

Then I tried to flash the vulnerable SBF again, RSDLite shows all ok but I still can't enter into Recovery mode. Then I tried to flash the whole SBF instead of just the vulnerable recovery, and RSDlite stopped at 19% with this error:

ERROR: Flash failure: Phone[0000]: Error flashing subscriber unit. Device API Error: 0xE003003F Address: 0xD304DB80 Command: ADDR (Error Code: e003003f),
Detailed Error Details: Direction of the Error=2000, Command Value=200000, Code Group Number=39
File: D:\GitProjects2\hdt_windows_flash\flash\code\flashdll\FlashHdlr.cpp
Device ID: 0

Did Google search on this, found nothing useful, I don't know what is the problem. Have tried UK, HK and SG firmware but nothing works. @_@ did my phone just become a brick? Now the IMEI doesn't even show up on RSDLite anymore...

My system is Windows 7 32-bit, using RSDLite 4.9, correct drivers.
Where to buy a Lightbox

Hi, hoping someone can share about this.

Was thinking of getting one of those lightboxes, like this or this.

I'd buy online, but Thinkgeek doesn't ship to Malaysia (and if I use vPost, it'll end up pretty costly), and I can only find cutthroat prices for those on ebay.com.my.

Anyone knows a shop in KL that sells? Preferable a lightbox that comes with different interchangeable background sets.

Hi,

I've read somewhere in the net that you can flash a k800i with k810i firmware. My question is...

1) Anyone done it before?
2) How do you do it?
3) Is it worth it? What differences are there between the k800i and k810i firmware?
Stumped :S

Hi, been troubleshooting for days, driving me crazy.

Trying to startup a frankenrig. Consists of:

E6300 Pentium Dual Core 2.8GHz
Asrock Conroe865PE (socket 775 + AGP 8x mobo)
2x Kingston PC3200 400MHz DDR
ATI Radeon HD 3850 512MB DDR3 AGP
Coolermaster Extreme Power Plus 460w PSU (was using cap ayam 500w before)
Western Digital 320GB IDE
Samsung DVD-RW Drive

Now, I'm unable to get this up and running.

When the HD3850 is plugged in, it doesn't even boot to BIOS (no beeps, no display). Strange thing is, on another rig, which has a P4 2.4GHz proc running Win XP, it boots up fine. So that rules out that the GC is faulty. GC works fine, just not on this.

When an old GeForce 4 MX420 is plugged in, it boots to BIOS just fine. But, it can't boot Windows from HDD, nor an install disk from the DVD drive. Everytime I try to boot from HDD, it just restarts. Everytime I boot from a CD/DVD, it shows an error and restarts.

I tried with a LinuxMint liveCD, and it came out with this error:

[0.128336] ACPI: Unable to load the System Description Tables
[1.927750] IO APIC resources could not be allocated.
[1.928510] Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel

Now, the last line can be ignored, since its Linux trying to suggest a fix to me. It's clearly an ACPI issue, but there's no Power Management screen in my mobo BIOS. So I thought it was a PSU issue, and since I was using a 500w cap ayam, I got a new one. Still having the same error.

And before you tell me to flash the BIOS to a newer version, remember that I cannot boot into any OS at all.

Mobo is brand new. PSU is brand new too. Proc and GC I bought from a friend, and the GC confirmed to be working fine since it works on another mobo. My friend's old rig which used the GC used the exact same mobo as I am.

I'm quite frustrated, since I spend bloody good money on this rig. I just can't get it to work. No trolling or stupid answers please.

[WTA] Where to repair old film SLRs in KL

Hi,

Was moving house recently, and while packing stuff, I found my dad's old SLRs. A Canon AE-1 and a Yashica (forgot what model). Pretty cool stuff, with old Speedlites and all.

Problem is, the lens are moldy (yuck) and the foam for the film cover have disintegrated (become powder), and while I'm pretty sure cleaning it up is simple enough, I don't have the steady hands or the guts to open up the camera.

Anyone know where/who can fix up old cameras in KL? If possible, also put a price range for these services so I can evaluate if they are worth fixing up.

Thanks!

How would you set up 190E

I'm a total noob when it comes to ICE, I've looked at the stickies but I'm still quite lost.

Basically, I have this old Mercedes Benz 190E (it's a baby benz, smaller size than a normal benz). It has an old Clarion HU, which I forgot the model (assuming HU is the box below the aircond where all the controls are) that uses cassette tapes, but has RDS.

Anyways, the sound is horrible, and I'm not sure if it's the speakers that are shot or the HU's quality itself. And since the HU can only play tapes, I'm thinking of chaning the whole sound system.

What would you guys recommend? No super high end stuff (since i can't afford), but best value for money setup. Entry level is ok, since my ears are not made of gold. Then I can start to plan and save for it.

Tolong pls!

Network Speed issues

Hey, hope someone can help pinpoint the problem.

I used to have a 512kbps Streamyx connection, and I recently upgraded to 1Mbps. However, I've not been getting 1Mbps speeds.

I've run multiple speedtests (using speedtest.net and Steamyx's speedometer), and they all seem to hover around 480kbps. That was strange so I gave Streamyx support a call.

All I ended up doing was pinging IP addresses and changing DNS servers, which didn't really help at all. I've even tried the connection without the DSL splitter, but that didn't improve the speed.

I lost count the total number of times I've called Streamyx, and everytime they make us go through the same thing and ask the same questions. So I gave up on that.

So I thought it could be my modem (it's a Linksys WAG200G btw), and I borrowed my friend's modem (a TMNet Artnet modem) and I still wound up getting speeds in the 480kbps range.

Then I tried to connect with my friend's 1Mbps account, and hey what do you know, speeds up to 800kbps!

I tried HIS account on MY modem, and got speeds upto 900kbps! Consistently! WTF...

MY modem, MY account: 480kbps
MY modem, HIS account: 900kbps
HIS modem, MY account: 480kbps
HIS modem, HIS account: 800kbps

So from that results, I can rule out that it has anything to do with my home or my home network. Which means the fault is with TMNet or the account itself.

We've asked Streamyx to look into it, and they say that our account is already upgraded. They even increased the DSL line sync to 1536 kbps. But I'm still getting 480 kbps with my account.

Does anyone know if TMnet implements speed throttling, and could it be related to my case? I really want to get this fixed because I've been billed for the 1Mbps connection already, and I've never gotten the speed I'm paying for.

All I need to know is the possible causes for this so I can tell the Streamyx people where to look to solve the problem! Plz halp!

hard disk crash

Hey guys, my notebook hard disk died on me the other day, and wouldn't let my pc boot up.

Now i have a new hard disk and all, but I need to recover some data from my old disk.

I'm thinking its probably a head crash, since it makes clicking sounds when its powered up, and when i hook it up to an R-Driver 3 sata to usb cable, it's not detected on Windows.

Anyone able to help?

Or to be more precise, anyone know where I can get professional help? And also what are the usual charges for this service?

Some additional info about my disk, just in case:

Manufacturer: Hitachi
Model: Travelstar (HTS541060G9SA00)
Capacity: 60GB
RPM: 5400
Interface: SATA

samsung 931bw

Hey guys, just a quick question, wondering if anyone has had the same problem before.

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 931BW for less than a year now (around 10 months), and it has worked fine so far.

Just last week, it sort of 'died'. When I power the monitor up, nothing is displayed, and the blue light on the power button flashes occasionally. Like it's still in standby mode or something.

The screen itself doesn't power up, since it's pitch black, not the fake black that the monitor shows when its on.

I've tried disconnecting it from the PC, since I thought it might be my 3d card that was fried, and was sending the instruction to standby to the monitor. But it remained in the 'standby mode', and no warning message saying that 'no input detected' came up.

I've tried connecting my laptop to the VGA port, and it still wouldn't work properly (desktop was using DVI).

So now I've to resort to using Windows' Remote Desktop to use my desktop from my laptop, until I can get it fixed or I can buy a new monitor.

Anyone also had this kind of problem? Any tips or insights as to why this is happening?

Email to SMS

Hey guys, I was just wondering, do any of the current cellular companies offer an e-mail to SMS service?

I mean, you used to be able send an email to 012xxxxxxx@sms.maxis.com.my, but Maxis cancelled that service. Does any of the other companies have that kind of service?

And similiarly, does anybody know if e-mail to MMS services do exist?
