My dad went hiking and saw this lens. It was covered with dried leaves/ dirt but still in dry condition. He knew I have a dslr and he saw me changed lens before so he took it back for me.

I google but cannot find the exact model. Any lens expert please help! Want to know whether I can use it on my Canon EOS or the second-hand price.

Can exchange damaged Renmibi

I don't know where my father kept it, he found few hundreds of Renminbi. Few pieces are eaten by ants? termite? at the edges, but the serial numbers are still clearly visible.

Is it possible to exchange for new paper note in Malaysia? I don't mine paying penalty for exchange.

If I travel to Shenzhen/ Hong Kong end of the year, can I exchange in the bank there?

Please help me. Though the amount is not big, but quite sayang cannot use.

Hertz finding scapegoat to pay summon

Sometimes when going outstation my colleague & I will rent car from Hertz. We'll take turn to drive the car along NS highway. I'm the unlucky one because these times my credit card and details were used for payment & registration.

I received 2 speeding summons (Subang Jaya KM 8.5 L/R Elite & Batu Pahat KM100 LRUS) dated back to April & June 2012. I can't remember who is the driver.

If I'm guilty, I'm willing to pay. If not, I must find the offender.

Is there any way to get the photo captured during speeding?
Even if I can get the photo, is it clear enough to guess the face of the driver?

Today I go back office asked the account dept to check car renting record and found NO RECORD. I called up Hertz and ask them check my past car rental record and they found that the car was not rented out on both day when the offence was taken place.

It's quick obvious that Hertz employee drove the car without permission, when they receive the summon, just simply submit a customer's name to PDRM. It's an insider job!

I asked Hertz to provide evidence to show that the particular car was not rented out. Still waiting for their reply. If Hertz refuses to comply, what can I do?

I experience BSOD once or twice in 24 hours, sometimes while playing video file, sometime while on Firefox. The laptop is older version of Toshiba M840 i7-3612QM, 8G Ram, AMD 7670M grahic card. Processor temperature is around 50-60C.

I post the minidump online and it came back with the following analysis. I dont understand at all, pls help:

Win 7 installation stuck

I have a laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium, either 32bit or 64bit) that comes with hidden partition for restoring the to the manufacturing default state if anything happen.

Before changing partition (Hidden partition still intact)
Tried to install Windows 7 ultimate 64bit & Windows 7 Home Premium OEM before just for testing, with success.

Later, I hate that the 'hidden partition' is taking my space I format the entire HDD, and creating my own partition. This time I tried to install Windows 7 ultimate 32bit with success.

AT last, I've decided to use Windows 7 ultimate 64bit and proceed to resintall, for the last time.

After repartition (Hidden partition no more)
I use the same Windows 7 ultimate 64bit DVD to install but strange enough that after "Windows is loading files", the installation process stuck at "Starting Windows". I waited for 1 hour, it is still stuck there. Previously when the hidden partition was still intact, the installation completed within half an hour.

I know I deserved it but help me! I'm screwed.

Streamyx upgrade to 2M but get 1M

I have been using Streamyx 1M (RM88 + RM25 phone line rental ~ RM113) since many years ago. TM keep calling me for upgrade but I rejected more than 20 times. This time I kena already because of greediness, just pay RM10 more get upgrade with free modem.

I was offered Streamyx 2M + free phone rental + free wifi modem for RM120/ month (RM110 for the first 4 months).

With the old 1M package:

Streamyx Speedometer download: 2000bkps; upload: 480kbps

Speedtest.net: download: 1000kbps; upload:450kbps

REAL Download speed from hotfile/ bitshare/ freakshare etc = 100kbps

With the 2M package:

Streamyx Speedometer download: 4500bkps; upload: 250kbps

Speedtest.net: download: 1000kbps; upload:410kbps

REAL Download speed from hotfile/ bitshare/ freakshare etc = 100kbps

My observation is that:
TMnet can 'modify' their speedometer to show high speed, even when the real download speed remained the same (same speetest.net speed before and after upgrade). Real world download speed from the usual site like hotfile/ bitshare are the same. Worse still, I suspect my upload speed was downgraded from 512kbps to 384 kbps. I'm stuck with this contract for another year.

Will receive a new Toshiba laptop these few days that comes with original Windows 7 Home Premium & 750GB HDD.

I have a habit to partition HDD to few parts as storage purpose. When I reformat, only the active partition will be affected. I don't need to spend time copying files to external HDD, and copy back to laptop after Windows re-installation completed.

The laptop should have 3 partitions: Restore partition, Active partition & another 100MB partition. I plan to create the backup Disc so that I can restore to factory setting if there is anything wrong.

My question is
1) If I create the Restore Disc first, then split the Active partition to 3 parts (C: 250GB, D: 250GB, E:250GB). When I restore using the Disc, will the Restore Disc destroy the D: & E: drive to gain back 750GB, then only can restore?

2) If I partition to 3 parts first, then only create Restore Disc. Will it be better?

3) If I lose my Restore Disc, and go to BIOS to restore from 'Restore partition'. Will it destroy the partition that I created?

4) Let say if I hate the pre-installed bloatware and want to install a fresh version of Windows 8. Will I be able to restore back to original Windows 7 HP if I hate windows 8?

Anyone tried before? Please share your experience/ knowledge. Thanks

Have <=RM3000 budget. Basically, these 2 models have very similar price.
My purpose: replace my aging C2D desktop
My usage pattern: Internet 50%, Word processing 20%, Watch movie 20%, Light video editing/ photoshop/ light gaming 10%

My dilemma/ concern:
1. Plan to use it for at least 4-5y, so brand reliability and warranty period are important. I and lots of my colleagues have good experience with Toshiba entry level laptops. Now Toshiba M840 has promo for 3y warranty - so tempting. Had no experience/ heard experience from MSI user.
2. i5 sandy bridge + SSD or i7 ivy bridge +HDD. Which will give better general user experience based on my usage pattern?
3. Actually i was given a copy of genuine W7HP which mean I can save up to buy an external HDD if I buy MSI-GE620DX, and still within my budget.
4. Not urgently need a laptop, I can wait until December to buy. I have been monitoring the price for the last 3 months, hoping to see any RM3500+ sandy bridge laptop to drop price below 3k but the manufacturer keep launching ivy bridge model and make the old model obsolute without lowering the price. Don't think my wish will come true!

[WTA] How to back up HDD/SSD Image

My colleague bought a Samsung Series 5 with 500GB HDD/ 16G SSD. After he has migrated all the necessary files from old laptop, he asked me to back up his entire HDD to DVD.

His HDD is about 60GB full. I plan to use Windows 7 back up option but it'll take too many pieces of DVD. So I choose to use Macrium Reflect free edition because it can compress the image files. Before this, I have successfully use Macrium to backup few Windows XP & 7 laptop/ desktop.

BUT Windows 7 with HDD/SSD cache has too many partition/ virtual partition that is confusing

I can see 5 partitions in just one HDD/SSD

Hardisk got
(1) 100MB (Windows XP i don't see this but Windows 7 got)
(2) 400GB (active system)
(3) 22GB (Samsung Restore partition)

SSD got
(4) 14GB
(5) 2GB

I chose (1), (2), (4) to create image file -but failed

I was told Windows 7 is installed in SSD, but why got (4) & (5)?

If I just choose (1) & (2), is Windosw 7 in it?

[WTA] Asus 8400GS nv4_disp.dll error

I'm running WIndows XP on E7200 processor for 3.5 years. It's been month I experience nv4_disp.dll infinite loop error on Asus 8400GS. Tried format Windows XP to reinstall fresh graphic driver from driver CD but still can't fix the problem.

What I did now is to disable Display Adapters in Device Driver. Everthing becomes very slow but at least no more BSOD, no more pressing RESET button.

I planned to just unplug the PCIE card but unfortunately my motherboard (Intel DP35DP) has no video support.

Anyone can help me solve the problem? I suspect is graphic card has become faulty. Don't want to buy NVIDIA card anymore. Can anyone recommend a stable & problem-free low-profile graphic card (<RM150). Performance is not important, as long as it is cheap/ stable/ no heating issue/ BSOD/ driver crash.

Burn Karaoke VCD to DVD

My father borrowed some Karaoke VCD from friends and he want me to help him burn copies of all the Karaoke VCD. I don't have blank CDR but lots of blank DVDR. Can I use Nero to 'copy CD' and then when nero ask for a blank CDR, will it accept DVDR? Don't care about wasting of space.

Anyone got experience before?

Chrome extension - mouseover select tab

Started using Google Chrome but still missed some Add-on functions in Firefox. Been searching whole day in WebStore for Apps & Extensions but to no avail. Wondering any users can share CHROME EXTENSION with these functions.

1) In firefox, when I move the mouse cursor to the selected tab, it will switch automatically to that tab without clicking the tab. In Chrome, must click the tab. Is there any similar Chrome extension?

2) How to make 2 sets of bookmarks - First set is the decent bookmarks for office use (in office laptop), another set (that is password protected, with games/movie download links) will only be shown when password is correct. Is there such an EXTENSION?

Any Chrome expects here, pls share your chrome kungfu!

How to prevent Recycled.scr infection

My colleague like to borrow my thumbdrive to copy movie/ mp3. When they return to me, the thumdrive always infected with Recycled.scr, autorun.inf etc. My home PC is running Avira and it can detect and clean it. My colleague Antivirus at home failed to detect these virus.

Last time, because I didn't turn off 'Autorun' when plug in thumbdrive, my PC was infected luckily Avira cleaned it. Since I turn off 'Autorun', at least my PC not infected anymore by Recycled.scr.

But I'm still worried. If I create an empty notepad file, rename it o Recycled.txt and force rename extension to scr, which is Recycled.scr, then change the attribute to "Read only", and save this file into thumbdrive. Is it able to prevent infection??

[Help] CIMB credit card double charge

Received CIMB C/C statement today. I was charged twice for an online transaction, it's an hotel booking in Bangkok.

Here's the detail, let say my cardholder name is JOSHUA LIM and my IC name is LIM CHEE MENG

13 Oct 2010: Booking for 1st room, I use JOSHUA LIM and transaction was successful, BAHT 4800.00

15 Oct 2010: Booking for 2nd room, I use LIM CHEE MENG and transaction was unsuccesful. So, I tried again using JOSHUA LIM and it was successful, BHT 8600.00 (RM913.92).

(Next morning, I called up CIMB customer service to confirm whether I was charged twice. The staff never investigate and verbally confirm that they will cancel one of the transcation if there were double. Unfortunately, I didn't record do our conversation and I have no proof of their unprofessional staff reply.)

I happily travel to Bangkok on 1 Nov - 6 Nov and NEVER use C/C in Bangkok.

Today, the statement came
04 Nov 2010: Amount charged BHT 8600.00 (RM917.58)

(Just now I called CIMB again and asked why double charge, they said I authorized the transaction. I am advised to fill a form and wait for 1 month for investigation and any unpaid outstanding interest will be charged on me)

I am thinking of solid reasons to argue with CIMB
1) For online transaction, is both cardholder name & IC name valid for transaction
2) Can I ask CIMB to investigate WHICH COUNTRY did I made the transaction. (This is to proof that I was in Bangkok, if the transaction is made in malaysia, then I didn't authorize it)
3) How can CIMB charge the same amount twice for a period of 19 days apart.

Help..... RM900+ is a big money for me. I saved many months to enjoy my trip. Don't want to pay my hard-earned money for a small mistake (mistaken IC name with cardholder name)

My colleague who are not computer-savvy likes to install lots of things from Internet Explorer/ Games/ Windows Messanger, recoommended by her chat buddies. She is very impatient - before the installation is complete, she'll cancel the it leaving lots of junks. Last friday, she can't open open a jpg file attachment from hotmail & I can't figure out what's wrong.

She keep asking me to format her PC but I'm sure she'll install junk again.

How to calculate focal length equivalent?

I'm a point-and-shoot camera user and am interested in learning some basic exposure technique using Aperture-priority, Shutter-priority and Manual mode. I'm pretty much familiar with the aperture, shutter speed and ISO already at least thereotically.

I've been reading up on some beginner photography book and there are still few questions that I am yet to find an answer.

(1) Let say a digital camera has focal length of f=6.4 - 32.0mm,
(a) How to calculate the 35mm equivalent? (it is written in the specs 28 - 140mm)
(b) Let say the above camera has 5x optical zoom. 1x zoom = ? mm, 2x zoom = ?mm, 3x zoom =?mm, 4x zoom = ? mm

(2) To allow more light to hit the camera sensor (so that the image appears brighter), we can either select a slower shutter speed (more motion blur), increase the aperture (more Depth of field) or selecting a higher ISO value (more noise). But there is another option called EV. By selecting the EV from 0 to 1. Aside from getting a brighter image, how does it affect the image quality in terms of motion blur, depth of field or noise?

Edit: To allow more light to hit the camera sensor (so that the image appears brighter) we can select a higher ISO value. Just realize that the sentence is incorrect. When aperture and shutterspeed are fixed, higher ISO doesn't allow more light to enter the camera, just that the sensor become more sensitive despite same amount of light.

(3) By changing the shutter speed ONE STOP from 1/30 to 1/15. We can DOUBLE the amount of light. Changing ONE STOP Aperture from f4 to f2.8 will also double to light.
If I increase the EV value from 0 to 1. Is the light DOUBLE?

My questions may sound silly to you but I'm really curious.
