Ceiling Fan woes

Hello all,

I purchased a condo (the developer shall not be named ). We still haven't VP. The developer was nice enough to include two air-cond units for the living area and master bedroom. Unfortunately, this means they did not provide a ceiling fan hook or even a electrical point & switch for these two rooms. Dining, Bedroom 2 & 3 all have fan hooks and points. They also included box lights for the living room.

I think we are still living in a tropical country where the weather is not hot all the time, ceiling fans are sufficient to cool me down, so I was wondering of ways to have a fan in the living area and master bedroom. I thought of a few ways of doing this,

1) hacking the wall, the box plaster ceiling and the concrete ceiling to lay down wiring just for the fan. This is obviously messy, need to get approval, I will have to repaint, I have the laminated flooring to think about, fuse concerns, buying new switches etc.

2) to avoid hacking the concrete ceiling, I could just make a layer of plaster ceiling and hide the cabling under there, but I still would need to hack the wall and the box plaster ceiling. And I'll have a slightly lower ceiling. Also not sure how to mount the hook, to the plaster ceiling or to the concrete ceiling?

3) I thought of tarik wayar from the box lights and control the fan just from the remote, but I'm not sure of this. And I think have to turn on the ceiling lights to be able to turn on the fan. Kinda dumb to have the ceiling lights on during the day just to use the fan

4) Buying a wall mounted fan and put the wire in a casing (or hack the wall). This will look ugly af.

Any other suggestions or ways I can go about this?

Much appreciated.

maxis wireless broadband problem

hey guys, hope u can help me out here.

A friend of mine has a maxis broadband service connected to his laptop. He asked me to help with a problem his having. After connecting to the net for a couple of minutes (the time varies from 3 minutes up to 10 minutes) the network activity will suddenly stop.
One very weird symptom is that about 10 seconds after the network activity is halted, the windows xp start menu and windows will revert back to the classic style(like the one in windows 2000..the grey colour one) for a few seconds and then revert back to the modern style.
Then if I open the maxis connection manager and try and disconnect and error will appear saying that it cannot disconnect. After clicking OK and then disconnect again, the connection will disconnect in the maxis manager (this happens every time) thingy but not the windows network connection icon, you know the one like the LAN icon. You can't even click on the bloody thing.
The only way is to restart the pc and then get connected again for another few minutes just for it to happen again. It is very frustrating for him.

Anyone have any ideas what's going on? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

p/s: the modem my friend has is the one shaped like a soap.. jiawei or something..

[addedon]October 31, 2008, 8:06 pm[/addedon]oops, I think I posted in the wrong forum

X800GTO 8X AGP..Is it backwards compatible?

Hey guys..one question.. I bought a Palit Radeon X800GTO 8X AGP from a friend of a friend last year and tried to get it to work on my rig which is quite old according to the computing world standards. Hehe.. Anyway, it has a 4X AGP slot.. But try as I may, the thing just doesn't want to work properly. It didn't have direct 3D installed and it keeps showing a couple of pixels off colour. I thought the problem lies in my rig. Plus, I was going through some very serious personal problems, so I didn't have the time.

So, I wanted to return it, the fella won't take it back at full price even though I just used it occasionally to get the thing to work. Huh..

One day it hit me, maybe the GC is not backwards compatible. Hence this thread.

So guys, is the GC backwards compatible?

Thank you in advance.
