Moving HD from laptop to another

Hey guys, I've been using my Lenovo G470 for years, and currently the laptop hinge is broke. It's almost un-repairable as it has broken some part of the system that supports the hinge. Other than that, software wise and everything, it's working very much fine.

As a cheaper alternative to purchasing a new laptop, I'm thinking to purchase another similar second-hand model to move the HD to the other laptop.

Is there going to be any problem? Say, even I were to get a Lenovo G480 or other Lenovo series, do you think some of the system might malfunction if I do so?

[WTA] Wheel cap replacement

So the wheel cap of my Myvi decided to give up on me after 3 years spinning on my wheel, and I'm left with 3 wheel caps, one of it kinda loose.

Asked around 3 shops and was quoted about RM90+ for one pcs, when I saw there are many cheaper alternatives in Lazada, where it's cheaper and it's for a set of four (http://www.lazada.com.my/catalog/?q=myvi+hub+cap)

Noob question here, can I get any model as long it's the same size for my Myvi? Or it's advisable that I choose back the original / OEM that is specifically for Myvi.

And I wonder how easy is it to install? I've watched some YouTube vids and it seemed easy, but don't wanna be too smart and damage the newly bought hup cap.

Unsatisfied with workshop

Hi, kinda unsure who else to ask.
Is it possible to change workshop if I'm unsatisfied with the current workshop, especially when it is covered as third party insurance (where I'm the victim).

In summary, if you want to know, here it goes.

I was involved in a car accident early Jan (2-Jan), some fella crashed into the back of my car and of course, his insurance will bear the cost and not knowing anything about workshop + panic at 3am, I agreed to send to the workshop that he called and all.

Little I know, there were a series of problem;
1 - Promised to deliver the car within 10 days of accident, ended up postponing 9 time
2 - Collected my car on 7 Feb, there are more work to be done but still ordering some parts for the driver seat (faulty driver seat that can't be adjusted, really bad impact, the aesthetics behind were at least 80% fixed). So the driver seat is the main issue now.
3 - Sent my car on 15 Mar for the 'FINAL TOUCHUP', which involve finalizing the work behind and the seat, apparently even said things could be done in a day
4 - Collection today on 20-Mar when they called (supposed to be yesterday, but some filmsy excuse as usual)

Reached workshop :
- Forgot to install signal bulb (I was literally driving without signal bulb behind from 7-Feb to 15-Mar!), installed on the spot
- Certain area requested to be tightened/modified but can't even keep the promise
- Driver car seat UNTOUCHED.

So I;
- Drove home anyway because I need the car tomorrow. Frustrated and had an argument, which I'll escalate it to their many-and-unresponsive bosses, tomorrow.
- Got called while otw back that the car seat is not covered by insurance or whatsoever, but will investigate.

Bottomline now, I'd definitely want to change the workshop to my choice or even Perodua and want nothing to do with this workshop. But is it possible or more paperworks will be done that make my car collected even delayed?

Cycling in Pangkor

Hey peeps,
Would like to get an insights about Pangkor island.
I'm planning to cycle around the island, especially to the southern side and the west coast area.
Probably about 3 km per trip or so according to Google maps.

Anyone tried it before? And I'm not even sure if there's bicycle rental in Pangkor Island itself, which not much website shows the perkhidmatan sewa basikal stuff like that....

Amazon ebooks in Msia?

Hi,

Not sure about others who have experience buying stuff through Amazon.com or not, but I wanted to ask if anyone have purchased ebooks there.

I know the international shipping is expensive and stuff but since it's ebook, there's basically nothing tangible to be shipped right?
But what if I have purchased an ebook there through my credit card, will I be incurred some hidden tax that might end up 200-300% of the value of the ebook?
And also, could it be illegal especially if I purchased some book that is banned or controversial in Malaysia (eg. some political books?).

Expected salary?

Just want to know, how important is expected salary?

Would the company squeeze the salary to your expected salary although the job listing said the salary is minimum certain amount?

I just realized the job that I applied, the difference between the minimum offer and my written expected salary has a very high difference, like RM500+.

How would the company normally decide on my pay if I get accepted? I do kinda regret writing down so low. :/

Long story short, I hit a tiang, bumper out of place a bit but not no big deal since it's still intact and dent is only a small fingerprint size.

How much should I be expecting to replace this part? Some of the spare part shop I checked online varies from rm70-rm300. Which I find ridiculous but considering it's only one side, how much you think it's reasonable to replace the tail light?

Mechanics won't be opening do early for CNY and i don't wanna kena potong leher. Bad bad CNY.

Flash in Google Chrome PARALYZED

Hi, not sure if i'm the only one having this problem, but I don't know why, but my chrome was working fine this morning.... then i put it on hibernate and resume it at night.

The flash in my chrome is all paralyzed and the only way to get it worked is to minimize and maximize it..... it's so bad that i can no longer use chrome anymore (i'm currently using FF).

I tried going to about:plugin and do the disable thing, reinstalled chrome with new profile, deleted cookies and cache, reinstalled all adobe in my pc yet the problem still arises.

I really hope that it could be fixed since I use a lot of Google products at work and FF isn't so friendly with it. Thanks.

Chrome flash freezes

I'm not sure if i'm alone here or what

I kinda have this problem with my chrome where the flash is being an arse...
it will freeze and i have to minimize and maximize to fix it....

for instance, i'm surfing 9gag and fb, both on my tab. i'm in 9gag and click to FB and tried to scroll down the feed, it will just stuck at the same position but when i minimize and maximize it, the position changed, responded to my scrolling down
then when i move back to 9gag and scroll again, the entire screen just stuck and i have to minimize and maximize it to look at the changed position.

and it's being more of a nightmare when i can't watch things from instagram.com videos, vine-videos.com, and even vimeo.... however youtube are not affected

people suggest me to disable the PPAPI, which i did... if i don't and leave both enabled, things like youtube and video playing in my browser will frozen suddenly after playing for a few seconds and not even maximize and minimize will fix the problem...

Dropped my laptop

ok, stupid day

walked to my car and i put my laptop w/ laptop sleeve on top of the car while looking for keys
then it fell on the floor.

so far, software and everything still functioning but not sure if there's any issue later, graphics music etc tested still fine
then the hinge area there a little bit out.

so i went to the digital mall and let the technician, english speaking bangla, to take a look.
he said that the hinge might need to replace and the screw cannot open/function, and need to leave it for 2 working days
hinge RM200 and the servicing RM90..
then i said i'll consider it first because i have loads of work to finish w/ the laptop and paid him RM30

but honestly, when i open close laptop, there's like no difference with before drop, no cracking sound, no complication, no weird movement whatsoever...

honestly i'm quite skeptical with him, so i wonder if anyone kind here can give their point of view :/

Hi, I just got myself a new car, been driving for exactly 1 month and just got into an accident ==
Minor accident, just like small dent and bumper need to be 'fixed a little bit'. Not even a scratch.

But y'know, my car is currently under service warranty of 3 years, i wonder if I decided to send the car to other workshop, I might tamper with the warranty and then void my warranty....

PS: Anyone know where is the best place for these kinda problem? the one i always go starting to overcharge me. RM150 - RM180 for minor front bumper dent (w/o scratch) is kinda steep..... my friend asked me to go Bintang CarCare at Petaling Utama, she said she got around RM100 or lower. I'm planning to go tomorrow but different branch at Taman Mayang....

GPS Navigator put in car?

Hi, just a quickie question.... google can't seem to help much (or i've typed the wrong stuff?)

Can you actually leave your GPS navigator (Garmin) in your car? In the dashboard or even the boot?
I mean, typically we don't leave our mobile phone/laptop in the car because of some metal-magnetic detector that thieves nowadays use to steal our gadgets, but I'm not sure if it applies to GPS navigator, although it does make sense if the so-called detector can detect it?

Been traveling a lot lately spontaneously to random places and often got lost la!

Email internship application

OK, I'm in my year 2 and I need to look for an internship placement by January and honestly, I'm freaking out since this is my first time. Some of my friends already got their placement and I need to like, accelerate!

I've been applying jobs via Jobstreet and company's fill-in-the-blanks application only so far and after about 3 weeks, what I have so far is zero email replies and two phone calls asking me when is my desired internship duration (one company asked and then tq'd me, and another one asked and declined me because my duration isn't available for them).

So I'm planning to do some emailing especially to the HR manager of the companies, which we are advised to do so by the lecturers, sorta like cold-emailing. And luckily enough, I have some friends and networking that gives me the HR manager's email.

My biggest question is that how should I write the cover letter? We are taught for the format where my address and the company's address but it seems that it suits snail mail more than email!

And also, what should I write on the email? I kinda wrote what 'I'm studying, my desired internship duration, attached is my resume, cover letter, reference letter, thank you' but funnily, it seems to be quite a replica of my cover letter. My friends asked me to use networking (which honestly, I'd use it only if I have no choice) and I'm kinda unsure of how to use it. Do I go like 'I'm currently studying in.... etc PS: I got your contact information from one of your colleague, Miss ABC'? It sounds, weird right?

And uhm, how effective is application via company's website? Y'know, the signing up and then fill up your application and upload your resume and cover letter, etc?

PS: I know maybe I'm asking a lot of stupid questions here but I need to be perfect There's just too much competitors to the companies that I'd like to join (Accenture, Nestle, P&G, GE, etc)

Laptop cooling system problem

It's almost like one year plus since i bought my Lenovo G470 and i can't feel the hot air or even wind shooting out from the heatsink from the side, if i remembered it well, it should be able to.

and when i'm surfing with a lot of browsers, anything that makes the CPU usage high, my laptop will be noisy and heat up like nonsense, yet i don't feel any heat coming out except but being hot itself...

do you think i should replace the entire heat sink? considering sending it to a IT shop but not sure which one reliable, the one i went before potong my neck like crazy
