Changing all hardware except HDD

I've got this new rig...spent a couple of hours setting it up...and when it was time to install windows, my Windows xp cd had an error. "toside.sys is corrupted". I was like... ...stupid ah bengs, cant even copy a cd properly!!!

Now i'm wondering whether i can boot up with my old hdd that has win xp installed. I just cannot wait until tomorrow to try out my new rig...damn that win xp cd....

Another thing that i'm worried is that it's not the cd's problem but the hardware's problem. Possible?

RGB to CMYK (photoshop)

I was close to completing my project when i discovered that it was in RGB
is there some way to convert it to CMYK without compromising the quality and having all layers intact?

My mobo can't support overclocking...

Hi, i just discovered my useless Asus P4pv-mx mobo doesn't support overclocking i'm thinking of getting a new mobo. please recommend me one that won't cost too much, and will be able to overclock a 2.4 Prescott up to >3.0ghz i don't plan to spend much on a new mobo coz i will get a new C2D rig soon a second hand board is alrite...as long as it is in good working condition.

But i would prefer if there is some sort of firmware or BIOS update that i can flash to my existing mobo to enable some overclocking and i heard that there are some software to oc from windows...can these work with my current mobo? please suggest some of them...thanks.

Basic video editing software

Hi, please recommend me a basic video editing software...something like windows movie maker is good enough..but must be able to support more video formats, and does not need much processing power.
Would like to use Adobe Premier but everytime i import a clip...it crashes. i just need to put some clips together and add in some transition effects between them, and maybe put some music in.

off topic:
i imported some MPEG files to WMM and compiled them together. but when i exported it, there was no sound and the quality degraded (i exported it to a high quality AVI file). is there any way i can solve this?

pluged in molex connector wrongly

help...i pluged in my molex connector wrongly...yellow to red and red to yellow. now my dvd drive cant work . what to do?? will plugging it like this spoil my drive? or is it pure coincedence that it's not working? btw, since its new, i think i can claim warranty...if not die lo..

Transition effects using quicktime pro

Is it possible to put some transition effects (fade in and fade out) using quicktime pro before and in between clips?

And how do i export the movie without losing any quality? i tried exporting to avi with the highest settings but there was a noticable loss in quality.

painting on plastic (front of casing and keyboard)

Hi, im a complete newbie when it comes to modding. I havent really started, but intend to do so soon.

1. What is the best paint to use to paint the front of the casing?(plastic material) I intend to paint it black.
Is it possible to get a glossy result?..if so, how?

2. I've got this crazy idea to paint my keyboard. i would first paint the keys with luminous paint, then mask the letters and spray the whole keyboard black...
Is this method recommended, or are there any other ways to paint the whole keyboard which leaves the keys recognizable?
and will the paint come off after some time?

What software do you recommend to make pamphlets? (the type where an a4 paper is folded into 3). is there a specific software to do this job? adobe indesign? Or do i do the whole thing in illustrator or photoshop?

Access control for 02jam and Gunbound

Sorry if i posted in the wrong place...feel free to move it.

I want to stop my bro from playing o2jam and Gunbound by blocking the ports with the router , coz he uses too much bandwith. But i dont know what port the game uses. Anyone can help? or is there any other way to block it...but i dont have easy access to his com.

<edit> also need the ports for Gunbound coz when i blocked o2jam he happily started to play gunbound </edit>

Software to deny access to certain programs

Is there any software to deny access to certain programs? (like games and msn messenger) Something that will password protect or only allow certain users to use the program. It would be ideal if it can also lock certain files and stop other users from changing the computer settings.

Slow browsing

Sorry if i've posted in the wrong place...

First of all, i want to ask if anyone is experiencing lagging streamyx today. Especially those in the JB area.

I'm now experiencing extremely slow browsing...even slower than 56k...but my BT downloads are at normal speed (80-90kbs). My msn also seems to be lagging.

Could the router be the cause of the problem? coz i've just port forwarded it yesterday...but the lagging only started about 8pm today. Can anyone help?
I'm using an Aztech dsl600ew and on streamyx 1mb pakage.
