AS level Chemistry Practical Questions

hey i encounter with a problem while doing the calculations in the chemistry practical manual..
Here is it
according to my phy lecturer, when we r finding the average of the readings we have taken, we should stick to the original decimal places like the taken readings.. eg. voltmeter reading - 1st reading-1.1V 2nd reading-1.2V For the average, we are supposed to write 1.2V and not 1.15V.

Does this apply to Chemistry too?

eg, volume of potassium hydroxide used
1st reading 29.6 cm^3
2nd reading 29.5 cm^3

wat value should i use for the calculations?

Thanks! =)

China to start work on world's highest airport

BEIJING (Reuters) - China will start work on the world's highest airport next year, in Tibet's Nagqu town, state media said on Tuesday, which will be about 100 meters (328 ft) higher than the existing record holder in another part of the remote and restive region.

Nagqu airport will be at an altitude of 4,436 meters (14,553 ft) above sea level, slightly higher than the airport in Qamdo town at 4,334 meters (14,219 ft), Xinhua news agency reported.

It did not say when the airport would open nor how much it would cost.

Tibet already has five civilian airports, at least two of which are only open for a few months of the year because of extreme weather which makes flying impossible the rest of the time.

China has embarked upon a multi-billion-dollar program in recent years to revamp old airports and build new ones, especially in the country's remote west, as a way of boosting the economy.

The government has also poured billions of dollars into Tibet, hoping to win hearts and minds in a region the Communist Party has run with an iron grip for six decades.

The government says that the new airports, roads and a railway to Tibet will promote development and help raise living standards.

But Tibet activists say the new links will speed up the pace of Chinese migration there and dilute Tibetan Buddhist culture.

(Reporting by Ben Blanchard; Editing by Robert Birsel)

http://news.yahoo.com/china-start-worlds-h...-110736734.html

Dr M,in India we have bad roads but true democracy

Last week, Dr Mahathir gave a speech in India which stirred one Indian activist to retort in an open letter to the doctor.
COMMENT
By Siddharthya Swapan Roy

Dear Dr Mahathir,

A couple of days back I woke up to newspaper reports which quoted you as saying that India’s democracy is a hindrance to its development and, if we did away with the nuisance of democracy, we will become developed.

Well, sir, it is heartening to see your concern about India’s future, especially now that our own elected government has orphaned us. To read that someone from the outside cares about our development sounds so very nice.

But you see, sir, your (apparently) good intentions notwithstanding, your advice to Indians is, well how should I put it… ill-advised.

I’m not really sure if you know much about the history of our nation. Don’t get me wrong.

Going by facts like the general absence of news from Malaysian newspapers; the absence of anything but song and dance in your electronic media; the absence of bookstores that sell knowledgeable books (for example, ones from which you can learn about history and not how to get rich in six steps); the abundance of malls and the stark absence of libraries; the abundance of coaching centres that can make masseurs, air hostesses and a host of quick-fix technicians and the relative absence of centres of higher learning especially in the social sciences; and, above all, the fact that this insanely consumerist and hedonist Malaysia was made under your tutelage, makes me doubt your knowledge of the history of India or any nation for that matter.

So allow me to apprise you of the story of our independence.

We won independence from colonial rulers waging a long and tortuous battle. A battle that sought to replace a discriminatory, unjust and violent regime that had enslaved huge populations with one which was based on the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity.

India was home then, as is now and as will always be, to an immense diversity of people who spoke different tongues, prayed to different Gods, wore different clothes and had different political beliefs. These diverse people said to each other that – we, despite our differences, will strive to live and flourish together and make a sovereign nation which will be democratic, socialist and secular.

We did not anywhere say that we want to be Malaysia or for that matter China or the US.

In India, no one is above the law

We want to become a nation with a system that treats all its citizens as equal unlike your country that officially accords special rights to Malay Muslims calling them first-class citizens while relegating thousands of people of Tamil, Chinese and other ethnic origins.

Despite the fact that they have known no other land than Malaysia as their own, you denigrate them with the tag of being second-class citizens.

We try to work towards having a system wherein a person will grow according to his merit and hard work earning what she or he has rightfully earned.

You may be surprised to know that here in India making cartels based on identity, even if under the name of a holy cow called “Bumipuetra” or son of the soil is looked down upon by most of us.

Here, promoting the selective interests of one’s self or that of his kin is called corruption and nepotism and not, as you call it, development.

We are in fact fighting tooth and nail to arrest the scourge of corruption and (you’ll be shocked to know) get the guilty punished.

Here in India no one is above the law and many a times powerful public figures go to jail for being corrupt or subverting the law.

Now that we are at it, sir, I’m sure it would be interesting to know what the minorities of your country have to say – especially the jailed and beaten ones – about the development-democracy debate.

In fact, sir, your idea of development is largely at odds with many of us here.

Development is no substitute for values

What you did to the tropical forests and water bodies of Malaysia (that is, raze vast acres of them into oblivion to make way for big-buck oil palm plantations and piggeries and so on) would cause huge outrage among many of us who are looking for sustainable development.

We are yet to be unanimously convinced that making cemented roads – however broad, lining them with buildings, even if glass-covered and glossy, and putting cars on them, however fast – is a substitute for our valued bio-diversity.

Many of us are very convinced that displacing huge populations of native people for useless things like racing tracks is a blot on the word “development”.

There are many of us who find it a shameful and cruel hypocrisy that while your country has abundant and openly advertised sex tourism, it still whips women for being licentious!

Thanks to the culture of reading here, many of us know of your penchant for cruelty in your personal career.

A career during which you enacted despotic and violent acts at times in the name (your contorted version of) Islam and at times in the name of security and national interest.

We could recount how you rose to power annihilating huge numbers of your opponents and stayed there for over two decades, continuing your devious rule using tactics and schemes which are far beyond Machiavelli.

Many of us know about your vile Internal Security Act, which you used to crush political opposition – jailing them and putting in place a frail and near-sham democracy and placing the entire nation under a one-man rule of Umno for over two decades.

You will note that I have used words like “most of us”, “many of us” and have tried to stay away from absolute claims.

Misconstrued understanding of ‘development’

Besides the age-old Indian practice of accommodating different opinions, it is meant to recognise that there are people in this country, too, who think like you and will have applauded you for saying what you did.

They, too, think that roads are all that important and not the humans who walk on them or the ones who sleep beside them.

They have misconstrued the word development as development of personal wealth and that this “development” is a holy cow and everything including the rights and lives of fellow humans is of lesser priority.

Their money power helps them buy a lot of print space and electronic bandwidth so they may appear like the majority, but thankfully the truth is they aren’t.

The majority of us recognise and are willing to admit – and even discuss at length – that there are problems in our nation – including bad roads.

But they’ll quickly add that we intend to solve those not by lessening democracy but by ncreasing it.

<a href='http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/2011/12/21/dr-m-in-india-we-have-bad-road-but-true-democracy/'
Shahrizat’s family owns luxury condo in S’pore?

PETALING JAYA: Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s family owns a luxury condominium worth RM10 million in Singapore, PKR alleged today.

Speaking at a press conference at the party headquarters, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said that the 2,282 sq ft unit at Anthony Road, Orchard Scotts, was purchased in January 2010, and is registered under her husband Mohamad Salleh Ismail and their children.

However, there is no evidence to suggest that funds to purchase the luxury unit came from the RM250 million in soft loans given by the government for the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) project.

Also present at the press conference were PKR women chief, Zuraida Kamaruddin, its chief of strategy Rafizi Ramli and PAS central committee member Dzulkefly Ahmad.

Shahrizat and Mohamed Salleh, who is the NFC executive chairman, came under fire from MPs from both sides of the political divide when it was revealed in the 2010 Auditor-General’s Report that the NFC was “in a mess”.

The opposition alleged that Shahrizat’s family had misappropriated the RM250 million of public funds meant for the project to purchase land and luxury items such as a car and condominium units in Bangsar.

They further claimed that the beef produce from the project was channelled to restaurants belonging to Shahrizat’s family.

The project was mooted during the reign of then prime minister, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, to reduce the nation’s beef import by 40% by enhancing local beef produce.

Meagre ministerial salary

Saifuddin, who is also Machang MP, said Shahrizat could not have purchased the condominium unit in Singapore with her meagre ministerial salary.

“And her husband, although being Technology Park Malaysia’s head, would not have been able to afford it as well as it’s not a business entity. So where did the funds come from?” asked Saifuddin.

Rafizi, in the meantime, also alleged that about RM1.3 million in funds were transferred by Shahrizat’s family to their restaurant business, Meatworks (Singapore) Private Limited in October 2010.

“In an e-mail exchange, Meatworks Singapore had requested S$530,000 from director Izran Salleh to cover for its losses,” said Rafizi who insinuated that the money could have come from the NFC funds.

Saifuddin wants Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to stop being in denial and take action against Shahrizat.

“We want thorough investigation on the matter, not some half-baked probe by the police or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC),” said Saifuddin.

Dzulkefly, who is also Kuala Selangor MP, said that Najib’s deafening silence on the corruption cases involving his minister showed all that is wrong in his governance.

“Najib should make a stand now on this,” he said.

http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/2011/12/2...condo-in-spore/

if the allegation is true.....c wat can she says again?

So, this is Malay leadership

DEC 20 — If our politicians are to be believed, the Malays are under threat these days. Our religion, culture and power are steadily under attack from all and sundry. Everyone has it in for us, from Christians to the Chinese. We are even warned about a so-called “Malaysian Spring” being orchestrated by “anasir-anasir Barat” (and quite possibly, the Jews, who of course, have always had it in for us).

“We won’t surrender an inch,” said the Melayu champion-in-chief (who also finds the time to be our prime minister) during a speech to Pekida recently. Malays, we were told, will never be oppressed in our own land so long as Umno is in power.

Well, glory be. I’m sure there are many others who can sleep more soundly at night knowing that there are so many out there making sure we Malays are not stripped of our position and power in our land.

But ... hang on a minute.

The last time I checked we Malays, along with the other Bumiputeras, make up about 60-odd per cent of our country’s population. Islam is not just our country’s official religion, it is also the religion professed by about 60 per cent of our people. Not only are we and our religion in the majority, but let’s see, we Malays also make up most of, oh, the civil service, police, army, ruling class and politicians.

Of course, you can say that there are plenty of Malays who still need help. This, I don’t dispute. I’ve seen rural poverty in our country, where people still live without basic amenities like constant water supply and proper toilets. I’ve also seen urban poverty, with families living in small, low-cost flats in the outskirts of KL making do with the little that they earn.

Yet poor Malays aren’t the only ones who need help. There are also plenty of poor people, non-Malays, who deserve help. My brother was once approached by a young Indian man late one evening. He had just arrived from Kulai and asked my brother for help; my brother pointed him in the direction of the nearest kedai mamak.

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: not all Malays deserve to get the help that the NEP brings. I would hazard a guess that most Malays who live in exclusive neighbourhoods in KL do not need the Bumiputera housing discount, or government scholarships for their offspring.

Are we really throwing away our “power” and “position” if we amended the NEP so that it excluded rich Malays and was open to all of our country’s poor, regardless of their race? Yes, Datuk Najib, we’ve “willingly shared power with the non-Malays” since Merdeka, but why keep harping on the past? Why not share with us your vision for the future?

I should have expected it, but I’m disappointed all the same. Is this what Malay leadership is about? Is there such a dearth of good Malay leaders in Umno that only scare tactics will do? Where is the vision about what the Malays can achieve? Why is no one inspiring us to be better? Why, in fact, is there no Malay leader out there who has the guts to say enough is enough, we Malays will never reach our full potential if we keep harping on about the help that we need? Why is no one honest enough to say that not all Malays are equal, and the haves should no longer receive a handout?

Instead of leaders who inspire us and show us how it is possible for all of us — Malay or otherwise — to have a stake in this country, we have leaders like Datuk Shahrizat Jalil. The pity of it all is that I felt that Shahrizat had not done a bad job as the minister for Women, Family and Community Development. Yet the NFC controversy has made her position untenable and shown the ugly face of Umno and our government.

Why are our ministers allowed to run family businesses that are subsidised by the government? Even if ministers are not actively involved in running such businesses, how is it that businesses run by members of a minister’s family can qualify for government assistance? Why are the people who govern our country in our name not required to declare their interests in such companies, and the assets they hold?

There is also a failure of leadership over the whole NFC debacle. Najib should have taken decisive action when it first erupted, and demanded Shahrizat’s resignation. Not doing so would mean that he condoned what she did, no?

This was our PM’s chance to show that he meant business; that even the slightest whiff of misconduct would not be tolerated, be it at ministerial level or otherwise. Well, he’s flunked the test. What this shows us is that our PM and Umno as a whole are prepared to turn a blind eye to such things. Why? I don’t know. Is it because she’s “one of us”? Or perhaps because she’s a Malay?

Is this what Najib means when he tells us to choose wisely in the next general election? Is this what Umno means when it claims to be the only political party that can safeguard Malay interests? For shame, Umno. Out of all its members, only two leaders have called on Shahrizat to do the right thing, and recognised the damage the whole affair is doing to the party.

Let me remind you what Najib said at Pekida: Umno would not allow the Malays to be oppressed in their own land. Well, the vast amounts of money that have been reportedly spent buying expensive properties and cars could have been spent improving the lives of poorer Malays, so who’s oppressing who now?

http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/opinion...lay-leadership/

nice piece of work!

Striving for equal though separate in Malaysia

An election is coming in Malaysia. The Prime Minister, Najib Razak, was quoted a few days ago urging Malaysians to go beyond tolerance to acceptance. It was a fine thought, though it came with a statement that the Malay preferences shall remain. Najib has also ended a state of emergency, which has allowed detention without trial. He has done this because he wants to win the coming election.

By Bruce Ramsey, The Seattle Times

It was a sultry November evening in Kuala Lumpur, and Rehman Rashid was explaining the contradictions of Malaysia. "Homosexuality is illegal here," he said. "But sitting behind me is not a woman."

I craned my neck. A cross-dresser in an Islam-majority state.

Rashid chuckled. His country is not always what it seems. The former columnist for the New Straits Times and author of "A Malaysian Journey" was explaining his country's contradictions, including the "national myth," he said, of racial unity.

Malaysia is mainly peopled by Malays, Chinese, and Indians. All over Malaysia are billboards showing a child of each group with the slogan, "1 Malaysia." Americans would recognize the message instantly: E Pluribus Unum. From many, one. But Malaysia has also had 40 years of affirmative action, in which the state favors Malays in jobs and the use of the Malay language.

The aim of this policy is to close the gap in wealth with the Chinese. It was a large gap when the policy started, because the Chinese were an urban, commercial people. The Malays were farmers — "a gentle, tractable people," Rashid says in his book.

They are different peoples. "The Malay wants to work so that he can live and pray and go to heaven," Rashid told me. "The Chinese works as long as he breathes."

The preference policy has boosted the Malays, though a Malay lawyer told me that the rich ones have taken the most advantage of it. As a young beneficiary of the policy, Rashid resented it. He felt it undercut his achievements, and he says now that the Malays have become dependent on it.

How do you end a policy like that? You have a political fight.

Since independence in 1957, essentially the same coalition has run Malaysia's government. It has held to power partly by appealing to racial solidarity and fear of chaos, partly by muzzling the opposition and partly by taking credit for Malaysia's economic success. That success is real. Still there are issues to be settled.

The opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim, heads a party that wants a race-neutral policy. His party made big gains in the 2008 elections and hopes for more. The government has charged Anwar with sodomy. It did this before and convicted him, also at a politically opportune time.

I asked Rashid whether the charge is true. He shrugged: How would you know?

What he did know, he said, was that in Malaysia, where the three races have kept their separate languages, religions, political parties and primary schools, E Pluribus Unum is not going to happen. After years of writing about the issue, he has concluded that even with a policy of race neutrality, which he favors, some degree of separatism is necessary for social peace.

For example, pork. The Malays, who are Muslim, have conceded the right of the Chinese to raise pigs and eat pork — "and it is a very great concession," he said.

But as a result, he said,. "We cannot eat off the same plates. We know that."

nice say najib...but can u pls act as ur words??

Najib: Close ranks or lose everything

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 3, 2011): Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak appealed for all Malaysians to support Umno and its component parties in Barisan Nasional (BN) or risk losing everything.

In his closing address of the Umno General Assembly today, Najib said the party and BN will be facing the most critical election, thus it is vital for Umno members to close ranks to ensure a big victory.

"We have to ensure we have a strong team because we are faced with the biggest challenge.

"It is up to us to see Malaysia progress with BN and Umno or meet tragedy with the opposition," said Najib in his hour-long speech at Putra World Trade Centre today.

He added under the present Umno and BN leadership, plans are in place to ensure Malaysia will become a high income and developed nation in 10 years.

Najib who is also Umno president, said with the transformation plans, the country is in stable condition compared to its western counterparts.

"When I met with President Barrack Obama, (the US had) an unemployment rate of more than 9%.

"I told him Mr President, we have full employment in Malaysia. If the US has a growth of 1-2%, I told him Mr President, we had a 5.8% growth last quarter," he said to the 2,711 delegates present.
Najib added that in "whatever" situation, the people can trust Umno and BN to lead Malaysia.

"We have never disappointed the people, we have never lied to the people, not like the groups over the other side," Najib said lambasting the opposition.

Calling the Sept 16 plot by the opposition as the "biggest lie in the history of the country," Najib said the opposition claims to be a champion but does not realise that its own party is in shambles.

He said that in the context of a developed nation, the Malay agenda must also be fulfilled and Malays must be seen as a successful race

"Who says we don't have plans (to fulfil) the Malay or Bumiputra agenda," questioned Najib.

He explained that when the 1Malaysia concept was launched, he never said that the Malay agenda would be sidelined.

"When I go and visit the estates or Chinese villages, it does not mean that my commitment for the Malays is any less," said Najib.

He added that this was done to ensure there is support from all ethnic groups, as the future of Umno also depends on this support.

Najib also said Umno members should put their differences aside as the biggest transformation challenge lies on the party.

"Let there be no more in-fighting again in Umno. The party is on the right track, with the wins in the previous by-elections.

"If all members are united, the party can win anytime and anywhere," he said.

Najib also said the assembly, which concluded today met its four objectives that were set.

The objectives were:

--To show that Umno is united and strong

--That the party is well prepared to fight in the next election battle so Umno can return as a party with dignity.

--To have the mandate of delegates for the government's transformation plans

--To give a clear sign that Malaysians can place their confidence in Umno and that it can lead Malaysia to a bright future.

"Some may say that I am biased but I believe we have met all four objectives in this assembly," he said.

At a press conference later, Najib said there are signs in this assembly that the party has fully recovered from the political tsunami it faced during the last general elections in March 2008.

Najib said based on his evaluation, the assembly was successful and a significant one in history.

"It is a sign that Umno has fully recovered after the last general elections. This is the revival of a new spirit, a realisation that we are facing a big challenge ahead.

"But with strong unity, and a greater commitment and confidence level, we will succeed in facing any tests to come," he said.

On the next general elections, Najib was asked whether he would be happy with just a simple majority or whether he was determined to achieve nothing less than a two-third majority.

"We want a strong government. Whatever constitutes a strong government, that is what we want to aim for.

"Two-thirds is something which is ideal but what is important is a strong government. A strong government can be a comfortable working majority or can be two-third," he said.

Asked how he evaluates Barisan Nasional's chance in opposition-led states, Najib said BN is still confident of winning them back.

"But I don't want to under-rate the opposition because, if we do this, it may be a mistakes.

"When we want to take over a state, it demands preparation and strategies which are greater than normal," he added.

On his call asking elected representatives to bow out gracefully if they have overstayed, he said those not chosen as candidates in the next general election must be willing to give way to new faces.

He said there should not be any acts of sabotage or ill-feelings since delegates have pledged their full support and loyalty to the party during the assembly led by deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

http://www.thesundaily.my/news/228260

a threat or warning??

Guan Eng questions Umno’s logic

Guan Eng questions Umno’s logic behind dominant DAP claim
By Melissa ChiDec 04, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 ― Lim Guan Eng challenged today Umno’s charge against the DAP by portraying it as the dominant party in the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) pact.

Lim, who is DAP secretary-general, pointed out that his party had the least number of contests compared to its two allies in PR, PKR and PAS, which stood 97 candidates and 66 candidates respectively in the 2008 general elections.

“How can a party contesting in just 47 seats lead PR? This is clearly a dangerous racial game to incite hatred and fear against the DAP and the non-Malays,” he said while opening the Penang state DAP Wanita congress in George Town today.

A copy of his speech was emailed to The Malaysian Insider.

“To cover up their weaknesses in financial irregularities in BN, Umno had used its last weapon which is to play up racial and religious issues against the DAP, Christians, the Chinese community, and DAP voters,” he (picture) added, referring to Umno’s general assembly that ended yesterday.

During the five-day-long Umno assembly, the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition’s Malay party had concentrated its attacks on the DAP and warned that should PR come to power in the next polls coming soon, the next prime minister will be a leader from the Chinese-majority opposition party.

“Today, our country and state are in a state of change. At the federal level, we are facing a moral crisis which does not only involve widespread corruption, but is also tainted by the supremacy agenda and racial rhetoric.

“Today, the country is at its critical point because of the Umno-Barisan Nasional administration which is not transparent. The weak leadership by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak had caused the transformation agenda to fail," Lim said.

The Penang chief minister pointed to the Auditor-General in his 2010 report criticising the federal government for overspending RM3.7 billion.

He also highlighted the RM250 million “cow and condo” scandal linked to Women, Family and Community Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

“Even Umno MP (Datuk) Bung Mokhtar (Radin) who is known to insult women who can’t drive and would say things that are inappropriate, can be seen as a hero for asking the women’s minister to resign,” Lim said.

The Bagan MP said his party and the PR pact had proven themselves capable of taking on the BN to govern the country, and pointed to Penang’s administrative successes as an example.

http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysi...nant-dap-claim/

Wikileaks : Anwar tells diplomats his future

Anwar Ibrahim told 40 assembled diplomats on July 22 he would either become Prime Minister or end up in jail, "and this time I'm not going to jail." While Anwar put on a brave face for the gathered diplomats, if indeed there are only two possible outcomes, at this point it is far more likely that Anwar finds himself behind bars rather than sitting in the Prime Minister's office.

Read more at http://malaysia-today.net/mtcolumns/45487-...inister-or-jail

Teenage Girl Hires Gang Members to Kidnap Baby

By OLIVIA KATRANDJIAN
Dec. 3, 2011
A teenager has been arrested on accusations of being the mastermind of an elaborate scheme to kidnap a 2-week-old baby in Santa Ana, Calif., according to police.

Gladys Remigio,17, was arraigned Friday for allegedly enlisting two gang members, 20-year-old Steven Quirino and 19-year-old Robert Rodriguez, to steal her roommate's 15-day-old daughter.

The newborn's mother, who is identified only as "Norma," told police that on the morning of Nov. 29, Remigio entered her bedroom with a man armed with a gun and ordered Norma into the bathroom. Norma's other children were asleep.

Norma managed to escape when the two men fled the scene, and she found her baby outside with Remigio.

At first, the police thought that Remigio was also a victim of the robbery, because she rents a room at Norma's house with her father. But police soon learned Remigio's twisted back story.

"She's engaged to a guy who thinks that she's 8 months pregnant and working in New York City. But she's not pregnant," Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. "Eight months into this lie, she's living with these people who have a 2-week old baby. So her master plan was to befriend these two hardcore gang members and have them rob the house.

"The deal was that she would pay them a little bit of cash and they could steal her iPhone and whatever else they could find in the house," he said.

Police suspect that Quirino and Rodriguez did ransack the home and allegedly stole a video game console. But after that, things didn't play out exactly as Remigio allegedly planned, Bertagna said.

"The deal was that the two gang members were going to put the baby in the back of the car and Remigio was going to drive to Chula Vista, where her boyfriend lives, and live happily ever after with her fiance and present the kidnapped baby as if she had a kid," he said.

But Quirino and Rodriguez left Remigio at the house with the baby and fled the scene.

Allegedly upset with the two gang members for leaving her behind, Remigio told police where to find one of them -- at a local doughnut shop where, she says, he hangs out, Bertagna said. The police tracked him down and he is now in custody.

Remigio then headed towards San Diego County with two other unknown individuals. She called her future mother-in-law and told her that people had kidnapped her, induced labor, and were holding her baby hostage for $10,000, police said.

Remigio's future mother-in-law called the police and reported the crime.

Soon after, Remigio showed up at her future mother-in-law's house with two men, Bertagna said. The woman was surprised to see Remigio, who she thought was in New York City. The two men disappeared before police could identify them.

Remigio then allegedly shifted her story and told authorities that there was never a kidnapping, but that she had false labor and threw the baby in a trash can, police said.

The police immediately called in child abuse detectives at 9 p.m., and they searched dumpsters for the fetus until the next morning, according to the police.

When detectives couldn't find a fetus, they reinterviewed Remigio, who allegedly finally admitted she had been lying the whole time, according to the police.

"She said she thought she was pregnant at one point but she wasn't, and she wanted to keep her fiance," Bertagna said. "Meanwhile our robbery detectives were interviewing the suspect in custody. He said 'Woah woah woah, she's the very person who hired me.'"

The third suspect was found the following day and taken into custody.

If convicted on all charges, which include conspiracy to commit a crime, first degree residential robbery, first degree residential robbery, and street terrorism, with a sentencing enhancement for criminal street gang activity, Quirino and Rodriguez face a maximum sentence of life in state prison.

Remigio is charged with one felony count each of conspiracy to commit a crime, first degree residential robbery, first degree residential robbery, and attempted kidnapping with sentencing enhancements for criminal street gang activity. She will be tried as an adult, and if she is convicted on all charges, Remigio faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison

http://abcnews.go.com/US/girl-allegedly-hi...ory?id=15080777

Man Dies From Severe Nosebleed

The death of a 47-year-old British man who suffered a severe nosebleed has medical examiners perplexed. Robert Ford of Gravesend, Kent, was walking with a friend when the nosebleed started, the U.K. Daily Mail reported today.

The bleeding was so severe that Ford went to a local medical center. After the bleeding stopped, doctors told Ford to go home and put ice on his nose. But hours later, he was dead.

An inquest into Ford’s death determined that blood had blocked his airways, causing suffocation. But how the blood got there — since the nosebleed had apparently stopped — is a mystery.

“This was certainly an odd case,” Dr. Olaf Biedrzycki, a pathologist who testified at the inquest, told the Daily Mail. “We don’t really know how to explain it. I’ve looked very hard for a source of the blood and could not find it.”

Ford’s father, Michael, called 911 after finding his son on the floor with a pool of blood around his mouth, according to the Daily Mail. There were also dime-sized spots of blood throughout the house.

The coroner ruled the death a result of natural causes.

The lining of the nose contains tiny blood vessels that can rupture when dry or irritated. Cold weather, a scratch, certain chemicals and allergies can trigger bleeding.

“We see an increased frequency of nosebleeds as the weather turns cooler because people start heating their homes,” said Dr. Jason Homme, assistant professor of pediatrics at the Mayo Clinic. “When the humidity goes down, the nasal lining is drier and more prone to irritation.”

In children, Homme said, the commonest cause of nosebleeds is digital trauma — nose picking.

Most nosebleeds aren’t serious. But in rare instances, they can signal more serious problems like bleeding disorders.

“If the bleeding lasts for more than several minutes with direct pressure, or if you have difficulty breathing, then you need to see a doctor,” said Homme. “And if you have chronic nosebleeds and any other signs or symptoms of a bleeding disorder, like easy bruising or bleeding gums, or a family history of bleeding or clotting problems, you want to see someone.”

Nosebleeds resulting from trauma, such as a sports injury or a car accident, should also be examined by a physician.

“Any time there’s profuse bleeding, it’s best not to try and take care of it yourself,” said Homme. “Have someone drive you in; don’t try to drive.”

Be careful! dun overlook some minor problems!

India could be China if it was less democratic

(Bernama) - India could have achieved as much as China in terms of development had it been less democratic, former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said here Friday.

Dr Mahathir, who ruled Malaysia for 22 years, said though democracy was the best form of government, it was not the easiest way to govern, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

If India is not too democratic it will be like China in terms of development," PTI quoted him as saying in an interactive session at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in New Delhi.

Minister of state for commerce and industry Jyotiraditya Scindia and BJD MP Jay Panda, however, disagreed with Mahathir's contention arguing that India looked towards development as a marathon and not a sprint.

Panda said the Indian democratic system was evolving and there were plenty of countries in the world which do not have democracy and have not developed.

"As far as whether democracy is more of a hindrance to India, it is certainly more difficult. Our system is evolving, our trajectory of growth is certainly better than it was in earlier decades. We do need to tweak our system, but we do not need to change our system," Panda said.

Dr Mahathir said though India has been a democracy for a long time but its socialist leaning had come in the path of growth.

Suggesting a model of a strong Centre and less powerful provinces for India, he said such an approach would help promote development.

"You need a much stronger central government and less powers to the provincial governments, because there will never be an agreement between the Centre and the provinces. This makes it difficult for the government to promote any policy," Mahathir said.

The Hindustan Times Leadership Summit is an annual event hosted under the auspices of India's HT group of newspapers. Prominent national and international personalities are invited to take part in the summit.

Hmm..what bout Malaysia??

Umno perlu guna sumpah bai’ah disiplinkan ahli

http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/bahasa/...siplinkan-ahli/
