SapuraCrest Petroleum announced its unit TL Offshore Sdn Bhd has secured a US$1.5 billion contract from Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras).
Shell Refining reported net losses of RM134.08 million in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2011 compared with net loss of RM19.46 million a year ago.
Unisem (M) Bhd’s earnings fell 89.7% to RM5.27 million in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2011 from RM51.53 million a year ago and cautioned demand for the group’s products and services to remain weak for the next quarter due to global economic uncertainty.
DiGi.com is on track to distribute about RM509 million to its shareholders by the first half of 2012 under the proposed capital distribution.

Hwang DBS Vickers Research expects the Malaysian stock market will probably come under extended selling pressures on Tuesday following the overnight fall on Wall Street.

It said the FBM KLCI is expected to drop below the immediate support level of 1,475, possibly falling towards the next support line of 1,445 ahead.

“Essentially, sentiment will be clouded by a bearish external backdrop after Greece’s government surprised the financial markets by calling for a referendum on its latest bailout package, which could derail the European rescue plan,” it said.

CIMB Equities Research has a technical sell on Takaso Resources at 17 sen at which it is trading at a price-to-book value of 1.0 times.

It said on Wednesday Takaso appears to be forming a bearish flag pattern and could soon complete this pattern.

“Once completed, prices are more likely to fall once more towards the 11.5 sen low again. A break below 15.5 sen would likely increase the selling pressure on the stock,” it said.

Stamford College to be delisted from Bursa
PETALING JAYA: Stamford College Bhd will be delisted from Bursa Malaysia after Bursa Securities rejected its application to extend further the deadline to submit its regularisation plan for approval.

In a filing with the exchange, the company said its securities would be removed from Bursa Securities’ official list on Monday next week.

Earlier this month, Stamford College made an application to extend the time to submit its regularisation plan by four months to Feb 4, 2012.

Last year, Bursa Securities had rejected the Practice Note 17 (PN17) company’s proposed regularisation plan which involved the acquisition of a steel manufacturing business.

The rejection was based on concern that the proposal was not sufficiently comprehensive to resolve all problems, financial or otherwise, that had caused Stamford College to trigger the PN17 criteria.

Bursa Securities said the group’s steelmaking business, which only began operation in February 2010, had yet to show that it was able to generate profits and positive cashflows or be proven to be a viable business.

Moreover, the steel manufacturing business depended highly on a single supplier and single customer, which was a related party, to sustain its business operations.

As for the core education business, there was uncertainty whether the profits to be generated from it would be able to sustain the group’s performance.

The company made a net loss of RM1.1mil on revenue of RM4.86mil for the second quarter ended June 30.

WASHINGTON: The United States will likely suffer the loss of its triple-A credit rating from another major rating agency by the end of this year due to concerns over the deficit, Bank of America Merrill Lynch forecasts, Reuters reported on Sunday, Oct 23.

The trigger would be a likely failure by Congress to agree on a credible long-term plan to cut the U.S. deficit, the bank said in a research note published on Friday.

A second downgrade -- either from Moody's or Fitch -- would follow Standard & Poor's downgrade in August on concerns about the government's budget deficit and rising debt burden. A second loss of the country's top credit rating would be an additional blow to the sluggish U.S. economy, Merrill said.

"The credit rating agencies have strongly suggested that further rating cuts are likely if Congress does not come up with a credible long-run plan" to cut the deficit, Merrill's North American economist, Ethan Harris, wrote in the report.

"Hence, we expect at least one credit downgrade in late November or early December when the super committee crashes," he added.
