iTunes Gift Cards

Hey everyone, during recent trips to Shanghai and Singapore (as well as Sydney back in 2013), I noticed that the now-familiar iTunes Gift Cards were sold not just in  Resellers / Retail Stores but literally almost everywhere - including 7-11 outlets, gasoline stations' convenience shops, and certain large supermarkets!

But how come this commonplace item is so hard to find here in Malaysia? I have NEVER seen such iTunes Gift Cards sold here, even if many of us are (forced to be) using iTunes, as it's the only way to transfer and purchase songs from Mac / PC to an iPhone / iPad / iPod!

How nice if these iTunes Gift Cards are available here - they make very good presents for any avid iPhone or  product user that we know of, haha!

If yes, how was it?

I was thinking of heading there to check out some Proton merchandise but sadly, I was unable to make it due to having lots of personal stuff to settle. Can I still get my stuff over at the CoE then? Because I heard there's an official shop selling those goodies in the HQ, that is open throughout the week.

Any recommended tint shops?

Hey everyone, people who sat in my Exora have asked me to look at tinting the glass with something a bit darker. The car actually came with a basic tint installed but that just isn't enough as the windows are still quite crystal clear. Which is why I'm planning to tint the six windows by the side as well as the rear windscreen, but leaving the front one clear (is it a good idea?).

I know some familiar brands are V-Kool, Cool World, Solar Tint, Raytech, and WinShield, all of which have outlets in PJ, but are there any other good ones that you guys can recommend?

Recommended dashboard cam

Hey everyone, if you follow the "Proton Exora" sub-topic under "Car Clubs", you would have known that I picked up my set-o-wheels last week. I'm now looking for a dashboard cam that can be placed in this MPV, as I didn't have one previously. In fact, I have seen some being sold in Digital Mall as well as Radio Shack outlets, but I didn't dare to commit to one, not knowing whether it's reliable or otherwise.

As such, what do you fellow car enthusiasts recommend?

Thank you!

iPhone 6 photography

If you guys noticed, the "iPhone 6 - Bigger than Bigger" billboards located along major freeways have been changed to show the beautiful images taken by the said phone (and also available on Apple's website)? Well, an idea then sprouted in my head, haha!

I noticed that while there's a dedicated thread on the iPhone 6 here in LYN, there is none for the images that we can shoot on our trusty phones. So why not come up with such a sub-forum, since many of us use our iPhones to take amazingly crisp shots anyway!

So let me get the ball rolling and post this photo I took of Shanghai's famous trio of super-tall towers over in Pudong, when I was there last week!

RMS Titanic

Hey guys, I have this beautiful 40" Titanic model purchased via eBay in April this year.

While she is still in good shape overall, Titanic suffered a devastating fall from the display area, a few months back, and broke her two masts. From the picture shown in the next posting, there is cellophane tape that I used to rejoin the broken pieces (together with super glue) but unfortunately, this caused her "cables" to somehow lose their firmness and became bent (the mast at the hull is also slanted). Her real ancestor does not have such "crooked" cables somehow...

Even at the Titanic's stern, you can see that one of her propellers has fallen off although I've ordered a replacement from eBay and it should be reaching Malaysian shores in the coming days.

As such, I wish to find out whether anyone of you here has someone that is recommended for model ship recommendation. I know that there are many modeling shops in town but I wonder who does such a restoration exercise...

Thank you in advance!

Review of the new iPod touch

I got the new iPod touch earlier today and have been getting used to it since then... Anyway, as promised, here is my review of the iPod touch and hope you guys enjoy it!

Design
While it is taller than the previous version (a 4th generation), the new iPod touch is one of the slimmest and lightest ever... It felt like I was holding a chocolate or candy bar, or even a piece of ba-kua, that was how light it was!

Also, I can be assured that the rear will be fingerprint-free as it is of a metallic aluminum type, compared with the shiny mirror of the 4th generation... Of course, my concern is the fact that the new touch may scratch easily and as such, a casing is a must, when they become available in the Malaysian Resellers soon.

Display
The 4" retina display is the sharpest one yet, for any iPod touch. The colors look very crisp and clear, making it very easy to view, including small text. Which means that for gaming, this will be one heck of a great experience seeing the graphics in extra-sharp quality!

Camera
This is THE main reason I went for the new iPod touch, i.e. the 5.0mp iSight camera. The one on the previous iPod touch was a letdown, with grainy and blurry images, and while I haven't fully tested the new touch's camera, I did try the Panorama mode and it was amazing to see how the pix was combined by merely moving it from left to right.

At the same time, images taken in fluorescent light are clear and when it comes to zooming in, the photo still looks sharp and without the obvious pixels (as with the 4g iPod touch). I will update this review when I fully utilize the camera with the excellent Camera+ app, with its various photo-editing modes (including Food, Sunset, Beach, Portrait, and Backlit).

Speed
When compared with the 4th generation, the new iPod touch is like a Formula One car racing against a modified road vehicle, that's how fast it is. This is because the 5g touch is using the same A5 chip as the iPhone 4S, which is known for its quick response when apps are activated. Because of this chip, gaming apps now load much faster than on the 4g, and there is hardly any noticeable lag, at the same time.

Sound
Only one word I can say about this - WOW! The speakers on the new iPod touch is crystal clear and in fact, while I am writing this review, the touch is playing music and considering I have the volume at around 75%, it can be heard throughout the room.

And unlike the 4g touch's speakers, which are located in the same place as the sync slot, the new model's ones are separate from the Lightning slot. This results in sharper sound quality as it is no longer constrained by the "four walls" of the sync slot and the sound can blare out without obstruction.

Lightning port
One of the most noticeable changes of the iPod touch (other than the design) is the sync slot. While we have grown accustomed to the previous Dock connector with its 30 pins, the one for the new iPod is a Lightning-type with only 8 pins. The convenience of the Lightning connector is that you can actually slot it both ways, i.e. they are the same either side. This helps prevent the situation whereby the room is dark and you cannot see whether the Dock is at the correct side or not, before connecting.

However, the inconvenience comes when you want to connect your iPod with existing devices using the Dock. No fear about this, as Apple also sells the Lightning-to-30-pin adapter that acts as a "liaison" to ensure you can still pair your iPod with speakers or third-party charging cradles, for instance.

Conclusion
The new iPod touch comes highly recommended for anyone intending to go for the no. 1 entertainment + gaming device in the market today, whether a first-time Apple user or even iPhone customer. This is the most significant improvement yet, to the iPod touch, and what a change it has been!

Rating
9/10

Honda Edix

Hi guys, I drive a slightly-older Honda Edix (plus-minus 2005 model) and have been using this mini-MPV for outstation travel quite regularly. I have a couple of queries here that need some clarification:

1. Is it possible to install a third-party cruise control system here in Malaysia? If yes, who can do this job?
This will make my outstation trips easier so that I can fix the speed-limit on highways and avoid getting photographed by our cops!

2. My car's absorber is getting a bit shaky (makes those "krik, krik" noises when going over humps or potholes) and as such, replacement is necessary. Can those vehicle specialists in Sunway do the job, and who do you recommend?

3. If I want to do a more sporty-looking skirting on the car, can this also be done in Sunway? I'm assuming this has to be imported from either Japan or Singapore, since there is not a large market for the Edix here in MY.

4. To place a TV + DVD Player in the Edix, where is the best area to place such an entertainment device, from your experience? At the front or the middle row facing the back seats?
And what are the recommended brands as well as places to get these gadgets installed?

5. Lastly, how much does Thule or other bicycle accessory shops charge to install a bike rack on the top of the car?
Last resort only, since the Edix rear can still store an adult-sized bike, once the back seats are pushed down.

Thank you for your time!

How much have you spent?

Hey guys, I know many of us are iPod touch users but I'd like to know how much have you actually spent on app-purchases via iTunes. This will then give me an iDea as to our "craziness" in going all-out for the best apps there is, out there!

Anyway, for me, I've spent more than MYR410.00 (around USD124.00) on various apps in iTunes and some of my pricey ones include ToDo (USD9.99), an ebook called "The 7 Habits" (USD9.99), Scrabble (USD9.99), and even the 3.0 firmware update (USD9.95). My fiancee always chides me for spending so much on software but hey, this makes my iPoT a more complete PDA!

Now, let's see your answers and replies!

Uncontactable buyer!

Good day guys!

Just to inform u to be careful of this buyer by the name of Ms. Haylie (012-431 3471)...

In a nutshell, Haylie communicated with me via text messaging and intending to purchase an iPod Classic 80GB on July 30... After several more text messages, the deal was pretty much sealed on the same day with intention to meet at Curve the following friday (Aug 1) to do the handover + payment... Somehow, the deal was postponed as I was unavailable and Hayle was also busy with other things...

We then proposed to meet on Monday for the handover but that's where the problem started... Her last text message to me was on Aug 2 and from there on, i followed up with her on a confirmed date to meet up (as i had ordered the item and it's currently in my hands) but there was TOTALLY no response from her... Not a single reply to my text messages or even a pick-up of my phone calls...

I can understand if Haylie may not want to follow through with the deal (after all, there are lots of good deals on iPods outside also!)... But at least drop me a msg or inform me via phone call that the deal is off... Its not nice to keep a seller waiting for days and not hearing any news at all!

Anyway, I'd like to inform u sellers to be careful of Ms. Haylie... Hopefully she does not do the same thing to u guys like what she's doing to me now!

Good day guys!

Since there is no dedicated Final Fantasy thread in this sub-forum, I'd take the liberty to create one honoring our favorite characters from the amazing FF game series...

Here are some pix of my lovely Yuna from Final Fantasy X (the Summoner), posing in front of a white backdrop!

And some cute pix of Yuna together with stuffed animal friends!
