My wireless internet drops occasionally for all devices in the house, which i initially thought was Unifi's problem. However, i found out that i also cannot access the router and cannot access other computers/devices with wireless LAN. But when connecting using wire, internet seemed to work fine (only tested this once, not sure if its just happy coincidence)

The weird issue is that even when swapping my current router (RT N16) with the original TM one, the issue occurs occasionally as well. Is someone jamming my wifi signal? I have no idea what's happening!

Unsolvable problem with desktop display

Hey guys,
I've got a serious problem with my desktop but i can't seem to diagnose the problem. Basically the video card shuts down itself after a certain amount of time (screen goes off). This happens even with i'm in the BIOS screen as well so it's pretty certain to be hardware related.

Here's a rundown of things i've tried to solve this:
- Changed my mobo, memory and CPU
- Computer repair shop tested display card through stress tests with no problems
- Computer repair shop basic tests on PSU (he didn't try to max load it though)
- Changed power cables, different display cables/ports
- Moved to a new house (not kidding!) so we know its nothing to do with the power source
- Changed monitors

Oddly enough the computer repair shop could not replicate the problem but as soon as i got it back, my first startup reproduced the issue (twice!). The only thing that has worked so far (but its only been a day) is removing my display card and only relying on integrated graphics, which imo has narrowed the problem to the display card or PSU. But hey i'm sure you guys are the experts. Give me your opinions!

[JUST REPLACED]
- Gigabyte Z68X mobo
- Gskills 2x 4GB DDR3
- Intel i7 2600 CPU

[OTHERS]
Coolermaster 750W (less than a yr old)
Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 5870 (a yr old)
Kingston 120 GB SSD
Seagate 500 GB drive
Seagate 1TB drive (the only item in the desktop not included when sent to repair)
DVDRW drive
TPLink PCI wireless card
Creative Soundblaster X-fi soundcard
Razer Arctosa keyboard
G500 mouse
USB connector for monitor

Weird external HD file transfer problem

So, i have a Toshiba 320GB 2.5" external hs for 2 years now which i use to backup my files. Recently, i have installed a new SSD with a clean windows 7 64 bit install and have encountered some problems with my PSU and another hard disk (both have been replaced).

Now i realise that when i transfer a decent amount of files over to my external hd it would freeze half way all the time. Tried different ports – transferring in safe mode – to no avail. Funnily, transferring the same files over to my thumbdrive works fine. And transferring files from my friend's computer to my external hd works fine as well.

So, it seems the external hd is only not compatible with my computer, even though it worked great before my recent clean install of windows. What could be the problem???

More info: Apparently when the external hd freezes, the whole Explorer process freezes as well as i can't transfer any other files even when its on another drive. Also, after waiting a long time the transfer continues for a while, then stops for ages again... and the process repeats itself. Something that scares me is that this happened to an older hard disk of mine a year ago... and i thought that it was the hd prob. Can this be related to mobo? Its pretty much the only part of my computer that i havent changed from original...

Possible PSU problem?

Hey guys, been having a bit of problem with my system as soon as i got home from work today and i have diagnosed that its a possible PSU problem. Just needed some second opinion from you guys before i rush out to replace it. Here are a couple of scenarios i tested.

1. Tested under normal conditions – At first, computer could start, lights were on (CPU blink, DVD drive etc.) but nothing on the screen. After rebooting nothing could turn on

2. Tested with all USB devices & DVD removed – Computer boots, very slow at the start when detecting devices, runs fine but 1 out of 3 hard disks not detected

3. Tested with all USB devices, DVD & the hard disk that was not detected removed – Computer boots fine with no problems

So what do you guys reckon? I'm a bit suspicious of the hard disk that couldn't be detected (and causing slow boots), but it was working fine before and i don't think it will contribute to the computer not booting at all.

PS. hard disk not detected at BIOS, not just windows

My Network Places question
Hi all,

Have a question about My Network Places, i set up network on both computers (desktop and netbook) and my netbook can easily detect my shared folders on the desktop and access it with no problem. On my desktop however, i can only see the shared folders on my computer but not of the netbook. Why is this? I can access the netbook manually by going to //computername so i don't think sharing permissions is the issue? Both are running Windows XP

Please help thanks in advanced!

Random BSOD! (Random restarts pt 2)

OK guys before this i was encountering random restarts on my computer. There was a whole discussion about this here and there was very generous feedbacks from the helpful community of LYN. Now the restarts are gone as i have disabled automatic restarts during system errors so BSODs have replaced them and i encountered my first one today since then.

Pls take a look at the pic:

Any help will be appreciated as to what the problem may be. Just as a reminder u can take a look here to see the history of this problem. In a nutshell, it is suspected to be power supply being unstable.

UPDATE: Also, no Minidump file is created after crash even though it is already enabled. WTF?

PS: I do realise that there is a pinned thread on auto restarts/BSOD but my problem is literally "random" unlike those i have read that thread as there is no symptom, no specific occasion and no abnormal problem in event viewer therefore will need further discussion and i would not like to crowd the pinned topic with my issues hope the mods can understand

Random restarts!
Hey guys,

Problems with my comp again surprise surprise! Random restarts happening to my comp and i really mean random....not when im overworking my graphic card or processor hungry progs like photoshop....just normal chatting and surfing and then BOOM it restarts. I had a fresh format about a week ago when i was experiencing the same problems but it was BSOD instead of restarts so i have a feeling its not software related.

I know the other regular suspects: overheating and ram problem. I installed my new ram about a year ago so i dont see why it would cause me problems just starting a month ago...but ill run the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool tonight anyways to be sure (i have no idea how to use memtest86) And for overheating i just installed a new heat sink early this year....im using Sharks Cooler which i think is quite good already...

But even with the Sharks Cooler my temps has always been quite high. The technician at the shop told me that for my motherboard this heat level is not unusual...what u guys think? On idle my speedfan gives me this:

CPU: 66
GPU: 66
Internal : 55
Remote: 50
HD: 42
Core: 68
Ambient: 0

Is there any progs that can detect all my specs so i can post it here? From the top of my head these are the things i know:
Intel D945GNT mobo
Pentium D CPU 3 ghz
Winfast Leadtek Geforce 7950GT Extreme
2 GB DDR2 RAM 266 mhz
Acbel (wtf brand) 450W power supply

In the event viewer i believe the error msg was: TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts.
I have done scans for viruses and malwares so it couldn't be that. (Plus a fresh format not too long ago)

I also worry that it might be power supply problem but i have no idea how to check on that. Any other specs i need to report? Please help thanks!
Dear all,

I can't believe im asking about recommendations for USB Hub, but here goes. I've bought all kinds of hubs for my peripherals and usually the cheap kind but now i've had it and want to buy proper one.... But how do i know the hub are delivering full speeds? They always claim to be USB 2 and giving maximum speed, yet they all come in different shapes and prices... I onli know that for heavy peripherals should get those with a/c adapter so can charge etc. but about speeds im really not sure. Plus my experience with cheaper hubs is something some devices kenot detect, or when i unplug something then windows give me warnings about the power supply not enough (even though im unplugging not plugging something in)

Please enlighten me. Thanks!

Basically wat im asking for is a contact list that can be synced to your computer/phone/email etc. without much trouble. Is Outlook really the only way to go to manage contacts and calendar? (I'm thinking iphone btw cause i plan to get it next year, plus im getting annoyed at re-registering contacts everytime i change sim)

Hey guys need some help here. I recently bought a Seagate 500GB SATA hard disk and installed as a secondary drive in on my comp. Its been fine so far until i did some tinkering by trying to use a sata power cable converter because my dvd writer uses sata as well so theres not enough sata power cables to go around. Now whenever i plug the power cable to my seagate drive the computer wont start up (as if theres not enough power). I tried removing all the power cables and just connect one to the hard disk and it still happens so i think it shouldnt be the power supply problem and since it worked fine before this.

I know theres no solution to this except to send for repair, but i want to know if anybody knows what kind of damage i have done to the hard disk. Because i have important stuff in it so im just panicking that i might lose everything.

Suggestions for new laptop

Hey guys.

Ill need to buy a laptop to bring over to Australia end of this year, so i was hoping if some of you guys can help me out by suggesting some brand names/models etc. Any help will be very much appriciated.

The wishlist:
- A powerful laptop capable of gaming and 3d rendering (doing architecture) so graphic card is important
- 2 GB RAM minimum
- Price range around rm3000
- International warranty and reasonable service feedback
- All the necessary stuff like dvd writer, wireless networking
- Customizability to upgrade (although i know this is usually not possible in laptops but itll be nice to have)

Not so important:
- Screen size
- Battery Life
- Weight
- Webcam

If you can also suggest wat i can get by increasing the budget to rm4000 that would be great too.

Sound problem (should upgrade soundcard?)

Hi recently i have installed Oblivion and tried playing it on my comp....it has decent framerate cause my computer has quite OK specs but the only problem is that when the game stutters a bit the sound gets bent and sounds a little like a vibrating sound and it really hurts the ears. Im guessing its the sound card as i only have a dodgy Sigma Tel audio card i think its intergrated with my Intel D945GNT mobo. Other games also seem to have more audio stuttering that i am used to in other comps.

What is your opinion? I was thinking of upgrading to a Creative soundcard....something cheap. Maybe SB5.1 or SB AUDIGY VALUE. Will that help?

Network folder & file sharing problem

Hi im having trouble sharing my folders with my housemates who are connected to the same router. The odd thing is that one of my housemates can see us in his Network Places and can access my shared folders while i cannot see his computer at all!

I am using a Netgear wired router DG834 and i have just formatted my comp. File sharing was ok before that. I have configured all the common stuff required for file sharing but for some reason it isnt working. I am using Kerio Personal Firewall but i dont think it is the problem because i disabled it and the problem persists.

Please help i dont know what else to do.
