Stripped screw head on back of laptop

Hi All,

So I'm trying to check on my partner's Dell 3421 laptop and upgrade to SSD and increase RAM, but I'm stuck.

I can't get the screw removed, it is so stripped it's no longer a (+) sign, it's just a gaping hole.

I've tried using a thickrubber band to catch any remnants but didn't work. I tried super-gluing screwdriver head to screw and then twist, didn't work, the dried glue just popped off the screw head when I applied pressure.

I can't exactly cut a new groove into the screw because it is flush with the surface of the plate.

Anybody out there has got experience in getting a screw out? Thanks!

iPhone 6 water damage!

Hi All,

Long story short, my GF's iPhone got dunked in the sea, and no longer can switch on. She brought it to MAChine in KLCC and they say they can't repair it, something about only repairing things in warranty. We were willing to pay for repair and went to them because they would have original parts for use.

Anyway, we'd like to try and salvage the phone by repair or at the very least by getting the photos that are still in the phone but didn't get uploaded to iCloud due to no internet during her vacation.

Could anyone suggest iPhone repair places in PJ area? Digital Mall or Bandar Utama area if possible. Thanks!

Also, would the iPhone be repairable in the first place?

Where to buy Asean country flags?

Yo LYN forumers,

Requesting your spread out knowledge for this.

Anybody know where I can buy Asean/Asian country flags? about 2 feet by 4 feet average size... for flagpoles around 7 feet tall to be put indoors.

Looking for Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia and of course Malaysia (which would probably be the easiest).

TQIA!

[RESOLVED] Maxis Fiber intermittent loss of WiFi

To all networking sifus and those who have maxis fiber internet, need your help in a problem I'm facing.

Every so often, once or twice a day, my wifi connection would drop.

When this happens:
- Ethernet connection to desktop seems to be working okay.
- all devices on wifi cannot reestablish a connection (tablets, mobile phones and laptops)
- on laptop, when try to reestablish a connection, it says "connection to [name] was refused"
- when this happens, tried resetting the residential gateway, and sometimes the wifi connection will work again after one reset. Most of the time, have to do it twice. (I reset by switching it off at the power, and waiting 30 secs before powering on again).

The networking stuff I use is the default ones given by Maxis. I know, that itself may be the reason, but I don't want to go and fork out a bunch of cash just to find out it might be something else that is Maxis's fault.

Open to questions if sifus need more information.

Additional info:
- The place I live only has maxis fiber as broadband ISP, so the entire taman uses maxis. No streamyx, no unifi coz they didn't the rights to put up cables in that area. Not sure for stuff like P1 or Yes since they're wireless.
- wifi disconnection sometimes happen more during the weekend. However, this might be only my perception.
- no constant torrenting happening in my house. Perhaps a few hours in a week, during the day, on weekdays, tops.
- this issue has been going on ever since we got the maxis fiber connection, basically since february. Several calls to maxis didn't do any good, they can't seem to say why this issue is happening or at least narrow it down.

Any ideas to start with?

What's in your Console's Hard Disk?

Hey guys,

Basically doing a quick poll on how your console's hard disk gets filled up. Thinking about if there's a market for expandable storage for consoles here in Malaysia, since PS+ and Xbox live cloud storage is a bit limited due to our country's internet speed.

For myself, since i use my PS3 to watch movies also, i just use my Transcend external hdd and format it to FAT32. I used to use media sharing option in Windows Media Player, but that requires me to keep my desktop on all the time. I'm pretty sure there are other much easier and convenient ways to share media to my console, just don't have the time to explore that. A NAS maybe, or a dedicated media server for the house.

Thanks in advance for helping to answer the poll~

Tron Script! A real helper?

Hi forum Sifus,

This isn't strictly a tech support cry for help, but more on asking opinion. I was lurking around in Reddit (sorry LYN i cheated on you), and found this seemingly awesome script that basically automates the things I'd typically do whenever someone comes to me and says "My computer running slow lah, I think got virus. Fix please!"

Instead of running all those things manually and sitting in front of the problem PC, just run the script, and forget about it.

Tron Script version 5

What it supposedly does are (taken from the page):

Stages of Tron:

Prep: rkill, ProcessKiller, TDSSKiller, registry backup, WMI repair, sysrestore clean, oldest VSS set purge

Tempclean: TempFileCleanup, CCLeaner, BleachBit, backup & clear event logs, Windows Update cache cleanup, Internet Explorer cleanup, USB device cleanup

De-bloat: remove OEM bloatware; customizable list is in \resources\stage_3_de-bloat\oem\; Metro debloat (Win8/8.1/2012 only)

Disinfect: RogueKiller, Vipre Rescue Scanner, Sophos Virus Removal Tool, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, DISM image check (Win8/2012 only), sfc /scannow

Patch: Updates 7-Zip, Java, and Adobe Flash/Reader and disables nag/update screens (uses some of our PDQ packs); then installs any pending Windows updates

Optimize: chkdsk (if necessary), Defrag %SystemDrive% (usually C:); skipped if system drive is an SSD

Wrap-up: Email job completion report (if configured; specify SMTP settings in \resources\stage_6_wrap-up\email_report\SwithMailSettings.xml

Manual stuff: Additional tools that can't currently be automated (ComboFix, AdwCleaner, aswMBR, autoruns, etc.)
Saves a log to C:\Logs\tron.log (configurable).

Has anyone ever tried it yet? I'd try it but I currently don't have a test PC to play with.

Pros and Cons of Refillable Ink?

Hey guys,

I recently had to buy refills for my brother's Brother printer. I was really surprised when the total for just 3 colors (they were out of Cyan) was RM203!! This was for one Yellow, one Magenta and a Black 2-pack promo. It's basically almost the price of the printer itself!

Outside the shop, this kiosk was selling those refillable ink cartridges for RM80 one set of 4 colours (damn son!) but because I just bought the original cartridges 2 minutes before, I just walk away sadly...

Now I'm thinking if I should just buy those refillable cartridges in the future. What are the pros aside from being hella cheap? What are the cons? Will it damage the printer if using non-standard ink? Will it void the printer warranty if using not-original ink? Will it reduce the life of the printer? Since I might be printing a lot in the future, I really don't feel like paying the equivalent of a new printer every time i wanna change inks.

I don't know the Brother printer model, but it uses LC39 ink cartridges.
