New PC - BIOS not loading

Hi all,

Just got this setup fresh out of the boxes yesterday and attempted to assemble:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3600
MOBO: Asus Prime B550M-K
SSD: Kingston A2000 500GB
RAM: Kingston KVR26N19D8/16 16GB RAM 2666 MHz UDIMM
GPU: AMD RX580 2048 SP (not installed yet)
PSU: Corsair CV 550W

Tried assembling everything together to test out if it boots first before putting in the GPU. First boot, nothing came out of the monitor, but the PSU and CPU fans are spinning. Then I tried to minimise all linkages and only link the 24pin and 8pin cables from the power supply and the power button cable. Also placed RAM in each of the 4 DIMMs and boot individually, still not booting to BIOS. Tried linking from HDMI port in MOBO to TV and also VGA port in MOBO to old monitor, also no display.

See pic for the minimised linkage to attempt to boot into BIOS (I re-screwed in the SSD before I sleep last night so that I don't lose it lol).

Owh 1 more thing, the motherboard has an orange light that is stagnant before i press the power button. After pressing power button, it is pulsating. Not sure what does it mean as I can't find it in the manual anywhere, though someone with a B450 said that it means that the motherboard is getting power and is purely cosmetic...

Appreciate any help/suggestions

Accompany family member to hospital

Under the MCO, is it possible to accompany my family member to hospital for his appointment with the doctor? Hospital is around 20-30 mins away and will definitely passby roadblocks.

He has severe physical disabilities due and hence he can't move independently and would require a wheelchair if he wants to go anywhere. Hence, he will need someone to accompany him in this manner.

Or is there another way of attending the apppointment (e.g. via ambulances/other community efforts) that I can look into?

How to take MC after consultation

Went to doctor's on Sunday for food poisoning, most of the things gone la (was having fever and bloated stomach but no diarrhoea) but still not really having an appetite and just started having diarrhoea yesterday. Possible to return to the doctor and ask for a day's MC to stay at home and recover? Anyone got experience on this before?

Young adult looking for property

Currently at my young 20s working near One Utama. Have been considering to get a property there as the travelling time and jam to my office is horrendous (I stay in Subang currently, 45mins jam minimum everyday during peak hours to and fro).

Before jumping into the "owh-god-nowadays-these-bloody-young-people-only-want-to-enjoy-and-stay-near-their-offices" mindset, let me brief you a bit about my job. I work as an auditor, and auditors are prone to super long working hours (I literally go home at 3am everyday during peak period and arrive at office around 9-9:30 the next day). Plus, after the news broke out on the auditor that died while travelling home (he dosed off and hit a tree), I have been seriously considering to move out of my current house to somewhere nearer to my office.

There is a LRT in front of my current house, but it takes 1.5 hours to get to office as it needs to get to Pasar Seni before switching to MRT to Bandar Utama. Btw, train services only operates until 12am. So if I work till 3am, I'm bound to sleep in office...

I'm serving a car loan currently, takes up roughly 40% of my salary. But it will end in around 3 years (I took the shortest loan period of 5 years for its 0.28% interest promo). I understand that a car is a depreciating asset, but it is a necessity for me to use it to travel to client's when I need it. For us, we will spend 40% of our time in client's doing fieldwork and 60% in office. Occasionally, we will be going outstation for work too. Though, we are able to profit a bit from the claims that we get from going to client's/outstation work.

Currently my job is a relatively stable job with an above average salary for fresh grad level, no retrenchments are heard except for people who resign, and the audit field is always lacking people as people are just afraid of the long working hours.

Some of the requirements for the property that I'm hoping to get:

1) Place: Preferably, 5-10mins drive from Bandar Utama. I've tried AirBnB in Pelangi Utama and Glomac Centro before, not bad tbh
2) Purpose: Purchase, for own stay. If there are empty rooms, I can do AirBnB/rent out too (not sure about the responses for those but I think it will be doable?)
3) Price: Preferably around 350-450k max. I can swap half of my current car commitment to my mom and focus more on the property.
4) Property type: Apartment. Will switch to landed in the future. Prefer newer looking apartments like Glomac Centro.
5) Size: Doesn't really matter, can fit 3-4 people then can ady.

Researched on Pelangi Utama and Glomac Centro, but found that both of these apartments are in around 500-600k. Loved the extra extra stuff like gyms, swimming pools and good security too. Though, is it really worth it to dump 500-600k on an apartment?

Hoping to hear suggestions

TLDR: Auditor wishes to find a house near Bandar Utama with around 350-450k budget cause he is tired and doesn't want to die

Advices on east coast travelling

Asked this in the travel subforum and got no responses, so gonna try my luck here

Currently I'm planning a trip that covers a round trip of semenanjung island. Problem is that as an urban kid, I never actually have much experiences on less urban areas. This trip is to be treated as a discovery trip of some sort, to learn more about the country. Been looking forward to this since years ago. Now that I finally have a car, I can embark on 2-week journey. Mainly for food and sightseeing and touch a little bit on the culture side.

My plan is stuck on what happens after Kuantan, going northbound. Terengganu and Kelantan is really uncharted territories for me. Hoping to get more advices on these 2 states Will mainly be in the capital of each state too and coastal areas. Hoping to get some advices on any unspoken rules in the east coast, particularly on the less urban areas (I will definitely be passing some kampungs according to my current plan)

Mosquito bikes (Bicycles with no brakes)

Sunny Sunday, going back to campus to study for exams

90 degree left turn before BHP near Sunway, couple of 12-13 year olds (quite young, small in size) occupying 1.5 lanes of a 2 lane road with their brakeless tiny bicycles, scared the sh*t out of me and swerved left while they did the same

Slowed down, got showed "nice" hand gestures and got called a specific animal which is prohibited by their religion, gave them a nice loud horn before proceeding

Not the first time encountering these in Subang/Sunway area (I think it's the 3rd time seeing groups like this over the past few months, but definitely different faces), but first time getting so close and almost ramming into them

Solutions? Don't wanna end up in endless trials like the Johor girl

TLDR: TS almost rammed into people riding bicycles without brakes

Edit: Thinking of sending an email to Hannah, don't know she will read or not since her mail should be piled with various other stuff

Focus on Studies or ECA?

Final year now, current CGPA is 65% (70% for first class, 60% for second upper). If everything goes well, will graduate on Aug 2018.

ECA - 1 position in a soon-to-be (hopefully) Youth NGO (term ends on March 2018) + 1 position in one of the uni's clubs (term ends on August 2018) + mentoring programme for uni (can stop whenever, but not halfway through the semester).

Dilemma:

Should I drop 1 or 2 of my ECAs and study as hard as possible for Year 3 (need around 75-76% per semester, but even getting high 60s is hard already for an average joe due to the tediousness of the course)

OR

Get involved in other ECAs (considering MICPA's student ambassador programme + involve in their student council, with the former being a PAID JOB ) while attempting to maintain second upper?

Edit: 80% committed to taking MICPA-CAANZ after undergrad.

Grand Tour - West Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore

Back in the days of secondary school I've always wanted to travel to far away places with a car, perhaps it is due to the influence of Top Gear. Since I'm legally categorised as an adult now, I've started to plan road trips (went to Ipoh, Taiping, Penang, and Malacca in just 2 weeks or so). After a few of these road trips, I'm hyped on planning something like "going 1 round around West Malaysia" kinda trip.

Original plan was to just tour in Malaysia, but further research shows that there is not much to do on the stretch of highway just south of the Thailand border, the one that connects Penang/Kedah and Kelantan (Route 4 if I'm not mistaken). Now, I plan to drive to Hat Yai in Thailand, play around for a day or two before crossing the border again to Kelantan and go south. On the south, planning to go into Singapore to visit relatives + explore Singapore.

I don't know if anyone did this kinda trip before, or is it wise to do this. If I were to take a plane to let's say Hat Yai instead, I would miss out the scenery and the exposure of a foreign culture along the road.

Budget: MYR 3.5k (Around 2k should be used for petrol + accommodation already)

Planned length of travel: 10-14 days

Planned departure date: Somewhere around late July 2018, when my course finishes

Rough idea of the trip, ignore the searched cities as those are just guidelines

Additional Info: Going with some friends, in a normal 5 year sedan perhaps.

Preventing free riders

So there is this subject where we are required to do our homework in groups and present it in class every 2 weeks.

The main motive of this, according to the lecturer, is to see common mistakes among students and compile inputs together to form the perfect answer.

But then, I bet only 10% of the intake does those homework. The other people just leech off other people's answers by snapping photos in class. And as finals are approaching, my group is getting a lot of requests for our softcopy answers cause our copy have vital feedbacks in it.

So I'm asking /k for opinion, what should we do to preserve karma and at the same time not let lazy people get our work?

TLDR: Lazybugs snap presentation answers and demand softcopy of work, TS butthurt and rants at /k

As per title, how hard will it be to get sponsorship from Big4's in Malaysia for let's say, 300k in exchange for a 4-5 year bond?

I'm not talking about those open for public scholarships (I doubt Malaysia's Big4 offers any though).
Real deal or scam?

http://www.myoa.com.my

I'm looking for a part time job, duration about 2-3 months long and I stumbled across this.

That broken English, ridiculously attractive job conditions and pay, sounds fishy. Now I just want to double confirm with LYN people if this is real or is this a scam.

Exchange vs ACCA UK

Ok I'm planning to take a degree in Monash Malaysia, and one of the reasons of doing that is to undergo the exchange program to Warwick for a year or so. Then do ACCA in Malaysia.

Then my mom discouraged me with that plan, saying that taking ACCA in Malaysia is hideously hard (quotas to pass or whatever, quoting some of her colleagues' children who failed ACCA in Malaysia), plus saying that the exchange program reaps near to zero benifits as I still need to take ACCA to become a qualified accountant in Malaysia (I know about her concern on this point). She recommended me to take a local IPTS degree for 3 years and study ACCA in the UK.

Opinions?

Dude, I know you like to mod your car, but please la uninstall your rear "headlights". Below are the reasons:

1) I can barely see anything other than your red "headlights" that are constantly on.
2) I can barely see you braking.
3) I pity the other drivers that have been following you behind, it's a threat to all road users.

Just saying, friendly advice.

Don't care if he's a ktard or whatever, anyone who knows him just pass this on.

As per title, book vouchers came in, want to spend them instead of selling it off. I believe even if I buy the books required for my first year of degree there will be balance left.

Was accidentally posted in /k, now restart thread for more serious responses.
