PLUS to introduce gateless toll system in 2018

According to a report, highway concessionaire Projek Lebuhraya Usaha Sama Berhad (PLUS) is set to introduce a gateless gantry system for electronic toll collection on its closed highways beginning from 2018.

Citing the move towards a Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system would check traffic congestion at toll plazas, PLUS CEO Muhammad Fuad Khusairi said that the concessionaire was studying several such systems running in other countries.

“Under the system, a gadget or sticker will have to be installed on the windscreen of vehicles. The toll will be calculated using the Radio Frequency Identification or RFID system. There will also be a CCTV network installed on the gantries. The system will be able to tell the amount that needed to be deducted electronically from the vehicle owner’s account with us,” he told reporters.

Last year, PLUS said it was targeting 100% electronic toll collection at all its toll plazas nationwide by 2020 with a gateless gantry toll collection system (like Singapore’s overhead Electronic Road Pricing gantries), where cars may simply drive through and be charged electronically without the need for slowing down.

The idea of a MLFF electronic toll collection system is not new – as early as 2008, trials with a Mitsubishi-based system utilising microwave transmission technology were carried out at a single location, at the Batu Tiga toll plaza on the Federal Highway.

Earlier, it was reported that from June 1 all toll transactions at both the Mambau and Lukut plazas along the Seremban-Port Dickson Highway (SPDH) will be conducted electronically via Touch ‘n Go cards or SmartTAGs. Five other toll plazas are also set to go fully electronic in 2015 – they are Jitra, Penang Bridge, Bukit Kayu Hitam and the two toll plazas on the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway.

Konami delists itself from NYSE

konami delists itself from new york stock exchange, possible sign of financial trouble

Video game developer Konami has delisted itself from the New York Stock Exchange, effective in July. This means that the company will no longer be required to file SEC, although the company has promised to still disclose its financial status. Delisting a company from a stock exchange is generally taken as a sign that something is wrong, and that the company is trying to hide financial problems.
Konami will still be traded on the London and Japan stock exchanges, which is probably still a good sign. The game developer says that it expanded to the NYSE to diversify its opportunities to raise funding and increase visibility, but the changes in the Japan Stock Exchange has made the NYSE “not economically justified”.

There has not been good news from the company lately, after the latest game – Silent Hills – was apparently cancelled. An apparent employment dispute with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has also called the future of the company into question.
Cost saving measures are not unusual for companies, and it looks like Konami is trying to save some money. Of course, the question is why they had to cancel one of the most anticipated horror games of the the year and delist from the NYSE in the same week. That would only cause people to expect the worst from the Japanese game developer.

Army officers’ flight no-show costs Putrajaya 372K

More than 1,000 army officers failed to turn up for chartered flights sponsored by the government, resulting in a waste of public funds amounting to RM372,265, the 2014 Auditor-General's report revealed.

The Defence Ministry had signed a contract with Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia to provide flights for its officers who wished to travel between peninsula and east Malaysia, according to the report.

But from 2011 to 2014, 1,138 officers who had booked their flights pulled out at the eleventh hour, even though the ministry had paid for them.

It said only 59 officers managed to replace those who had changed their plans.
"The 1,079 users that could not be replaced resulted in the government wasting RM375,262 (0.3%) of the total RM112,284,293 paid to MAS and AirAsia," read the report.

"Their absence caused problems for the management and losses for the government because the payment had already been made." – April 6, 2015.

Ministry paid RM88.13m for incomplete broadband

The Communication and Multimedia Ministry paid the full fee of RM88.13 million to three contractors that had failed to abide by their contract in a broadband project in Sabah and Sarawak, the first series of the 2014 Auditor-General's (A-G) report found.

Esajadi Sdn Bhd, Jaring Communications Sdn Bhd and Celcom Axiata Berhad were hired to install 935.6 kilometres of fibre optic network in East Malaysia, but fell short of the target by 45.37 kilometres, according to the report that was tabled in Parliament today.

"Checks by the audit through OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) tests showed that the real distance of the total fibre optic network for the three contractors was only 890.23 kilometres (95.2%), compared to the distance stipulated in the contract, which is 935.6 kilometres.

‎"However, the full fee of RM88.13 million was paid to all three contractors," read the report.
The report added that one of the contractors, Esajadi, was not qualified to carry out the project as it‎ was not a licensed Network Services Provider (NSP). – April 6, 2015.
