A New York Post photographer has hit back against critics over pictures he took of a man moments from death on a subway track.

Freelancer R Umar Abbasi said in a media interview that he had used his camera flash to alert the train driver, rather than to snap photos.

The tabloid's front-page story, headlined This Man Is About To Die, has triggered fierce ethical debate.

Ki-Suck Han died on Monday after being shoved by a stranger on to the track.

A suspect arrested over the death at 49th Street station near Times Square is still being questioned by NYPD a day after his arrest.

'Sickening'
Abbasi said on Wednesday he is shocked that people closer to the victim did not try to help in the 22 seconds before the train struck.

"It took me a second to figure out what was happening," he told NBC's Today programme. "I saw the lights in the distance. My mind was to alert the train."

"The people who were standing close to him... they could have moved and grabbed him and pulled him up. No-one made an effort," he added.

His picture, which featured on Tuesday's front page, has prompted an online backlash and a media debate.

"The treatment of the photo was driven by a moral and commercial calculus that was sickening to behold," wrote a commentator for the New York Times.

Wednesday's edition of the New York Post carried a front-page article headlined My Snap Decision, in which Abbasi describes what happened.

He is quoted as saying: "I just started running. I had my camera up - it wasn't even set to the right settings - and I just kept shooting and flashing, hoping the train driver would see something and be able to stop."

He added: "At the same time, the perp was running toward me. I was afraid he might push me onto the tracks."

Abbasi says the victim did not scream or cry out for help, which haunts him.

"I can't let the armchair critics bother me," he continues. "They were not there. They have no idea how very quickly it happened."

Police say the suspect in custody has implicated himself in the death.

Witnesses say they saw an assailant talking to himself before he approached Mr Han, 58, on the platform and shoved him into the train's path following an argument.

Different kinds apartment bathroom the world

Bathroom for non-luxurious apartments/flats.
This does not apply to ALL apartments, but it's normally the common ones.

Japanese bathroom.

Comprises of the empty space for user to scrub and clean themselves with the shower spray, then the tub (ofuro) filled with hot water to soak in after cleaning up.
The hot water in the tub is not thrown away after each user uses them. Instead they're being kept hot for other users to use the same water.
Sometimes the same ofuro was used in a week.
The ofuro hot water is not used for cleaning purposes, but mainly to warm up the body for comfort and relaxation.
The toilet is usually seperated, but the cleaning shower area has a containment on the floor to keep water from getting into the toilet area.

Korean bathroom

Usually has no tubs, and the whole bathroom is a wetroom.
Meaning that you take the shower and the whole room gets wet.
The shower tap is usually shared with the sink.

American bathroom

Has tubs along with curtains. and usually a carpet on the floor.
The floor does not get wet as user takes a shower because the water is protected by the curtain inside the tub.
Usually have cabinets under the sink.

London bathroom

Usually has a shower cube, if not a tub.
Equivalent to american bathroom.

Chinese bathroom

Similar to Korean, but the shower tap is not connected with the sink.

Indian bathroom

Is a wetroom. The difference is that there is no tissue paper, but they use pail or water hose for the toilet.
Hence there is almost always a pail and a bucket in indian bathroom.

Malaysian bathroom

Usually have a HUGE bucket of water for water storage.
Malaysians usually use the pail and splash themselves for bathing.
The whole room is a wetroom.
There is no toilet paper as malaysians usually use hose or pail for their toilets.
It seems like Malaysians also love to keep mops/brooms/cleaning equipments in their toilet.

A crowd of 300 young people on Sunday sexually assaulted three women near Tahrir Square, according to a report on the website of Egypt’s flagship paper Al-Ahram.

After the assault, which took place near the Qasr al-Dobara Church that is used as a field hospital in the current protests, the women ran to the nearby Mugamma administrative building in Tahrir Square, the Al-Ahram journalist present wrote about the incident.

Their assaulters followed them there, but the employees of the building closed the doors to block them out. Dozens of other demonstrators, who had been holding a sit-in in the square, then beat the assaulters with sticks and rocks to disperse them, and took the women to their tents in the center of the square.

The report said the Al-Ahram photographer could not take pictures of the women being assaulted, as the assaulters threatened to destroy his camera.

Incidents of sexual assault have been increasingly reported during protests in and around Tahrir Square during the transitional period.

A mob of about 300 Egyptian youths ripped the clothes off three young women in Cairo’s Tahrir Square today, forcing them to take refuge in a government building, the state-run Ahram Gate reported.
The youths attempted to force their way into the building, known locally as the Mugamma, after assaulting the women near a downtown Cairo mosque, the website reported.

I want to quit my studies, but it's too late

Hi all, it's me again.

Like some other people in colleges/unis, i'm stuck in a course I don't like and I can't excel in. For a few months already, i've been thinking about quitting this course, maybe get a job, and live a simple and moderate life.

Details
- Course : IT
- Uni : Some college that does twinning programme with a UK uni
- Year : Final year, second last sem.
- Programme : Degree

I've been scoring pretty well during my first and second year. But coming to the third year, I've been plagued by many depressing things, and I've since lost hope and interest in studying.

The thing is, although I used to score well in previous semesters (4 flats), I have no whatsoever interest about what I am learning. Compared to other people in other Unis, i feel really left out since they know a lot technical stuff, but I'm just a nerd who knows every answer to every exam question, but hardly applies what's learnt in real life.

I'm stuck with a 50K debt with PTPTN. I've started to wonder, that I might not secure a high-paying job with my qualifications, and will be stuck with a 50K debt which I might have to take a lifetime to settle. I've no interest to enhance myself in this field, I feel exhausted, and I feel cheated.

At first when I enroll in this college, I was sort of peer-pressured. I cannot qualify getting into a public Uni due to my bad SPM results. I was thinking of getting a job, but my family and friends, all advised me to pursue my education, because I have so much potential in studying. I was listening to their inspiring speech about how all of these could turn upside down and finally make a change in my life, so I decided to enroll in a college. I was dumb, I didn't know about the debts and the syllabus. When I started to learn and attend classes in my second year, I found out, what I have learnt are WAAYYYYYYY too backdated that what techie people are applying today. Then i feel very regretted, i felt like even without a degree, all of these things I learnt in class i can learn from the web, and i can have more flexibility of what i want to learn, and can keep up the pace with current trends.

But when I realized this, i'm already in my first sem in my third year. I have 2 more sems to go, and a final project to do.

I was very depressed that I've started to miss classes. I didn't attend to many of the classes in this semester. Exam is in 2 weeks time and honestly, I didn't learn shi*.

I know if I quit now, i should pay around 30k to 40k to the college before i can cut off all ties with the college. Even if i paid it off, it'll be a waste of money and time, and I won't get a degree. If i get a job with this degree, i am pretty certain i'll end up with the salary of a non-degree holder, but with extra 50k debt.

But even if I finish this degree, this certificate would be useless considering that i still lack in skills and interest in this field. It will still be a waste of time and money, but at least, i have a cert, albeit it will be a useless one. Just a piece of paper to grant instant recognition for whatever people want to hear from you.

I am at my wits end in this situation. I tried very hard to push myself to make myself go to class, but each time I do that, the more depressed I become. I seriously dont wanna attend class anymore. I will push myself further in to things I hate greatly, but my family will be ok of it.

But if I quit now, my family and friends would be angry at me. My parents are quite sick, and I don't want to upset them when I tell them I want to quit when I've gotten this far.

I am torn. Please help me

Do you mind if your partner spends a lot of money on make up, jewelry, accessories, clothings etc? (hundreds, if not, THOUSANDS)

Do you mind that each time you want to go out with your partner, you have to wait around an hour or so until she's ready?

Do you mind us going to spas/salons/gym so often to beautify ourselves?

What i mean by that was the whole 'getting ready' process, i.e.-
- showering ( not just simple showering, shave legs, shave hair, shampoo, condition, scrub body, put lotion, etc)
- trying on clothes
- doing hair
- doing makeup
- accessories
- shoes

Are you guys bothered that us women, spend a LOT of time, and money, when getting ourselves to look beautiful?

Are you guys okay with it? Are will you get bored of all those actions as we turn 40 ish?

will you feel fed-up of all of the things we do to keep ourselves beautiful?

and lastly

do you mind that we use up YOUR money when buying all of the stuffs to make us look pretty

and take up YOUR time in the process? (waiting for getting ready, have to accompany shopping)
