[WTF] Case of The Dried Corpses (Not Actual Title)

Konbanwa, fellow forumers. I'm looking for a certain detective/investigation/mystery manga. I remember reading 2 vol.s of it many, many years ago (approx. >10 years ago) but have forgotten its title & char.s involved. The manga consists of several vol.s though, each having the protagonists investigating different cases. Unfortunately, I only remember little of the contents of 1 of the vol.s.

The manga follows a group of young investigators through their adventures of solving riddles & investigate various cases. 1 of the vol.s has the group investigate the case of the dried corpses.

The story follows the group's visit to a castle (mansion?) isolated far from the urban environment. The family who inhabits the castle requests the group to investigate secrets the castle holds of their (family's) past & their ancestors/predecessors. The castle also happens to be the final resting place of the ancestors, approx. 8 of them. The coffins were placed in different areas of the castle.

A murder of 1 of the family mbr.s soon follows. A part of victim's body was cut away - the dismembered body part missing. By chance, the group stumbles upon 1 of the coffins (of the ancestors). Inside, they discover the dried (mummified?) corpse of the ancestor with a part of its body cleanly & freshly cut away & missing, identical to the way the murder victim's body was dismembered.

Soon, 1 by 1, the family mbr.s were murdered. Each of them had different parts of their bodies cut away. The group subsequently discovers each of the corpses of the ancestors found had different parts of their dried bodies cut away, correspond to the way each of the murder victims' bodies were dismembered.

The investigators believe that the murders & vandalism of the dried corpses are the doings of the same person, or at least a gang having similar motives.

Some murders happened before their respective dried (& dismembered) corpses were found. There were times when the investigators discover a dried corpse had been dismembered before the next murder, indicating the intended body part the murderer intends to cut away from his/her next victim.

After the 6th murder & the discovery of the 6th dried corpse, 1 of the investigators predicts that the murderer must have collected the dismembered body parts of the dried corpses & stitched them together to form a complete body & kept it in the 7th coffin. When the 7th coffin was unearthed, the investigators were puzzled (shocked?) to find a dried corpse with its body still intact & showing no signs of attachments.

I'm not sure if there was an 8th coffin. I think the 8th coffin unearth by the investigators was an empty one.

As most of U might think, the manga's strictly for mature readers & definitely not for the faint hearted. It contains a lot of blood, gore & disturbing & graphic depictions (of murdered victims & such). I remember having sleepless nights after reading them.

If y'all know this manga / req. more info., please do lemme know. Accompanying links / knowledge of the specified vol. are greatly appreciated.

[WTA] 3G Modem & Router Adapter

Hello, fellow forumers. I have some questions regarding 3G broadband sharing.

Currently, I'm using Str*amyx (wired) broadband & a wireless modem router (1 phone port & 4 LAN ports, no USB ports). I intend to change to D*Gi 3G mobile broadband (which uses a 3G USB modem).

1) Is there a way to connect the 3G USB modem to my existing wireless modem router via an adapter (if such adapter exists)?
2) If (1) is not possible, I'll need to use a 3G mobile broadband router (what does such router is called anyway?), right? Any router recommendations?

[WTF] Chinese Pinyin Keyboard

Hello, fellow forumers. I'm looking for a WM6 Pro. Chinese Pinyin keyboard software which can input Pinyin characters w/ tone marks.

Posted in Baronic's PDA applications recommendations (http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry26238707) but didn't receive any replies for quite a while. Suppose I should open a thread here?

So far, I haven't seen any Pinyin s/w w/ tone marks except CE-Star, but CE-Star's out of my list. Too much conflict w/ the device reg.s. The built-in WM soft keyboard doesn't cover all the Pinyin tone marks.

Tried CooTek TouchPal & ZTA4 which're great s/w, but their Pinyin don't have tone marks, / might have the settings for it but yet to discover them.

Tone marks in Chinese Pinyin's very helpful, / should I say, crucial for beginners (such as yours truly) to learn Chinese via the Pinyin method. The pronunciation of a certain vowel in a word may be different if used in another word & may have different meanings if a certain (Pinyin) word's pronounced in different manners / tones.

Last Sun. night, I was doing my assignments til' 3am, Mon. morning & went to sleep half an hour later. I'm sure y'all can imagine how tired I was. My P525 was placed on my study table being charged. My housemates slept a little earlier than me.

Later, I was surprisingly waken up by my housemates at 9am. 2 of them told me that their handphones & wallets were gone. Startled, I looked at my table to see if I'd lost anything & it dawned on me rather shockingly - My P525 was gone along with its charger! Even the wall power socket was still turned on.

I can't believe that we were so tired as to not realize the culprit(s) coming into our rooms. There were no signs of forced entry as the doors were intact. The culprit(s) must've had a duplicate key(s) / some means to open the doors, / climbed in through the windows as we were just staying on the 1st floor & our windows were opened.

Later, my housemates & I made a police report. My case was considered more minor than my housemates whom, besides their handphones, lost their wallets which held their MyKads, ATM cards, money & other personal belongings. Fortunately, my wallet & its contents weren't stolen. Even so, I lost my P525 worth RM 2599 & many, many years of priceless data in it! Furthermore, it happened 2 days after my birthday & 3 days before the Chinese New Year, & the culprit(s) dared to act even when we were in our rooms sleeping! F*CK!!!

This thread discusses about mobile gaming peripherals such as joypads, joysticks, light guns, etc.

To stay true to the PDAs & Mobile Computing forum, this thread discusses only mobile gaming peripherals which're portable & can be easily carried around to be used with mobile devices such as laptops, PDAs, phones, etc. / your friend's PC, for e.g.

Stationary gaming peripherals such as steering wheels + pedals, (some) dance mats, etc. are deemed not suitable to be discussed here unless forumers could come up with ways to make them portable for everyone.

Additionally, this thread's also for

I've a laptop & need recommendations on wireless joypads. Do they even exists? If so, any recommendations? Bluetooth / non-Bluetooth. Would love to get 1 for my gaming needs as keyboards're never meant for (heavy & fast) gaming, I believe. Hurts the wrists...

MP3/4 Player + mini-/microSD + SD Card Adapter

Hello. I've questions on MP3/4 players with built-in SD/MMC card slot.

Anyone tried using mini-/microSD cards + SD card adapter with their players? Thus, does it fully function as an MP3/4 player, i.e. playing files from the mini-/microSD card, & as a storage device, i.e. reading & writing files also from the mini-/microSD card?

BTW, I'm using an MSI MEGA PLAYER 533, but for the benefit of other users out there, do share your experience with other brands/models of players.

The world of Pocket PC (PPC) phones'd seen better days. Countless times we'd anticipated for the latest news on soon-to-be-released PPC phones that'd the potential to be the "perfect"/"complete" PPC phone(s) ever. But IMHO, there'll never be a "perfect"/"complete" PPC phone for the ever changing & demanding masses.

History has'd its fair share of near-hits & misses that has revolutionized the world of PPC phones as we know today. Some eg.s worth mentioning:-

1(a) O2 Xda II mini (HTC Magician)

The mini was the best PPC phone of its time, but not "complete". Powerful processor, sufficient memory, an SD card slot, decent camera & Bluetooth, but the dealbreaker / Achilles' heel of the mini's the absence of built-in WiFi.

1(b) E-TEN M500

Same prob. as the mini, except that it has the extremely useful USB host capability.

2) E-TEN M600

E-TEN rectified the M500's greatest weakness by including built-in WiFi into the M600, but not without a price. An eye for an eye, the USB host capability & infrared (IrDA) that the M500 had were dropped from the M600.

3) Dopod 818 Pro (HTC Prophet)

Early rumors prior to its release speculated that it would've a 416MHz processor & a built-in FM tuner. When the official specs was finally released, enthusiasm turned to despair when, not only the "FM tuner" was absent, it uses a slower (Texas Instrument OMAP) 195MHz processor instead.
I understand that many 818 Pro users out there would say that overall, it's really not that slow. The prob. arises only when you subject the PDA to multitasking / data intensive operations, but hey, PDAs're meant to multitask (well, at least for organising purposes). IMO, if a maker creates a PDA that can't multitask without it crashing, then that maker'd made a redundant PDA.
BTW, great camera though. The best I've ever seen in a PPC, but that's bound to be challenged by an upcoming PPC phone (read on to find out which one ).

4) O2 Xda Atom

It has all the makings of a "complete" PPC phone, but its release was too premature. IMO, O2 was to hasty in releasing this "fingerprint magnet" as it was riden with heaps of software & ROM prob.s. But as time progresses, ROM fixes're beginning to mould this device into a fine PPC phone. Guess they need to up the ante by the time HP's iPAQ rw6828 comes out.
One thing I would like to mention here's that the Atom's FM tuner feature has become the std. of judgement of post-Atom PPC phone reviews. Many PPC phones being reviewed're subjected to "biased" judgement that the "absence of an FM tuner"'s considered a con (disadvantage) / understatement.

I believe there're other PPC phones that're worth mentioning here that I might not know / too "young" to know. BTW, these're just my personal opinions as a PDA freshman. Got any PPC phones you might think should be in this list? Do share your opinions.

Many consumers expected PPC phones to've features that makes a PPC phone "complete". Processor, tri-/quadband, WiFi, CF/SD card formats, Bluetooth, IrDA, & camera quality're some of the features a PPC phone must've for it to be considered "complete". I was first exposed to the world of PDAs in mid 2005 when SD cards were the std. back then. So, my personal opinion / definition of a "complete" PPC phone's a PPC phone that has the following features:-

1) Windows Mobile 5.0 (for PPCs, of course )
2) Bluetooth & IrDA
3) WiFi
4) Camera with macro option (I suppose with min. 2.0M pixels)
5) USB host funtionality

Optionals:-

1) SD card slot. My "complete" PPC phone may've a full-sized / miniSD slot, even a CF slot's OK. It doesn't matter to me. But I wouldn't want one with a microSD slot though. microSDs're way to small & fragile for my hands. I understand that many of you would choose an SD slot over a miniSD slot due to storage capacity difference, but we cannot deny that the trend's moving towards smaller PPC phones, which means smaller extension cards're required. For now, the max. capacity of SD cards's higher than that of miniSDs, but tech. has its way of catching up. Recently, a 4GB miniSD card was spotted by one of our forumers. I believe that miniSD cards're bound to be the new std. for extension cards, replacing the SD card. Hey, the same thing happened when SD cards replaced CF cards last time.

2) GSM frequency band (dual-/tri-/quadband). I don't do a lot of travelling, so any band'll do, as long as it supports our local mobile service providers.
3.0G (UMTS) & 3.5G (HSDPA)'re not a necessity too as the service's still pricey & yet to gain ground.

3) Keypad / thumbboard. I prefer numeric keypads over QWERTY thumbboards as keypads've less buttons occupying the surface area of a PPC phone, thus the buttons're bigger &'re more comfortable to press. Numerous PDA makers tend to compensate by incorporating keypads / thumbboards with a slider, but sliders aren't my cup of tea as they tend to be more fragile & repeated sliding could lead to one having an "automatic sliding keypad / thumbboard". QWERTY thumbboards that're built on the face of a PDA're either too small to be pressed / occupying too much space that could be better used for the touch screen instead.
The use of keypads would also reduce the need to perform operations on the touch screen, thus preserving the delicate screen.

4) Ear- & microphone jack. Either 2.5 / 3.5mm would do for me, but 3.5mm would be favourable as it's the std. of almost all multimedia devices (MP3/4 players, soundcards, entertainment sys.s, etc.).

5) Cosmetics (physical appearance / built). Not an important aspect for me, as long as it's good to grip, not too extemely ugly & doesn't bulge the pocket.

6) Price. Quite subjective as it depends on the features of the PPC phone & (signifcantly) its brand. Heck, I don't mind paying a big sum, as long as the phone meets my requirements & (crucially) its price makes up for its features.
