New Sylphy is Promising!

Nicely done Nissan!

Am not a big Nissan fan so when the previous Sylphy first came out, I totally disliked the looks of the car.. Same goes to the previous Teana. It seemed that the Nissan designers and executives were probably high on some psychotropic pills to get that designed approved.

Now, they are attempting to clean the slate at least that is how I see it. I remembered the new Teana was improvement from one of the last motor shows.

But this one is all about the New Sylphy... Frankly, this seems to be an improvement over the previous generation in terms of design. Not too sure about the the overall car but according to the sos, this has some improvements : New Nissan Sylphy Test Drive Report.

They have also coma red the new Sylphy with the old one. Check it out. Maybe some Sylphy owners can share their thought too...

I am comparing this the Ford Focus which certainly has more goodies for the driver in term of power and tech.

Facelifted 5-Series - BMW on a roll

Looks like car makers are pretty bullish about the market, especially the premium segment.

I would have imagined that the market would be slowing down but the way car brands are pushing out their wares, it looks like there are plenty of Malaysians eager for new premium offerings.

Between June and now, BMW has been keeping busy with the introduction of their M-Sport versions for the 3-Series and the introduction of their 316i model in July. Then in September, they announced the CKD versions of the 2L diesel variants of the X1 and X3. The new 1-Series launched quickly followed suit.

Today, they just launched the facelifted 5-Series. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Looking at the new 5, i don't see much difference except for minor cosmetic changes and upgrades but all you true BMW fans will surely notice.

I like their cool Enhanced Display Panel - pretty awesome stuff compared to the conventional instrument cluster.

Oh, apparently the 4-series is coming out soon too.

2014 Honda Jazz

Early this month Honda made the jazz CKD the most affordable Honda in the market and it looks like the upcoming Jazz will be within reach for many - Honda fans especially the Jazz fans would rejoice at this.

2014 Honda Jazz - First Details features some details about the upcoming Jazz plus some nice pics of the car. From the pics, the car looks like its taller than the current version... or I could be wrong.

So back to the CKD part...looks like the we may be getting CKD version of the Hybrid and Jazz. Since there are quite a number of Jazz on the road, we may just see the number increasing soon

Damn... looks like more new cars are coming compared to how often u catch a fever..LOL!

No more mundane hybrids!

Forget about the BMW Active Hybrids those are like hobby cars for a rich treehuggers.

Before the A6 hybrid, the only interesting and lively hybrid was probably the CRZ. Other than that, we had some mundane options thrown at us like the Prius, Civic, Jazz and Insight.

Ok...so the market is opening up and more Hybrids car coming... but it would nice if this one comes along too, the A3 Sportback E Tron.

I'll be very interested to see if Audi would allocate this here. This will be a nice option for all those Golf fans, imagine a combined output of 204 hp and 350 Nm from its 1.4 litre TFSI petrol engine and an electric motor that forms a parallel driveline.

Sweet I'd say!

Mondeo vs Pug 508GT

Stumbled on this iPad magazine shared in kopitiam, Driven+. Released by the team at paultan.org with reviews and stories which are not shared on the site. I think this one must be exclusive.

Anyway, that's besides the point. What was really interesting is that they pitted two unlikely conti brands against one another, the Ford Mondeo 2.0 Ecoboost and Peugeot 508GT.

We always compare Mazda 6 / Mondeo / Teana / Camry but never compared the 508 and Mondeo... well could not find any in the forum.

This shootout story is quite interesting. Both cars have their own plus points and obviously the GT ends up as the better car among the two. What I could not understand is that the Mondeo at some point lost out in the handling department. Funny considering that the Mondeo is a better handling car among the two, based on my experience with the 203ps Mondeo and the 508. I have not experienced the current 240ps Mondeo and the 508 GT so maybe there's some changes or difference.

I am sharing this cos it's an unlikely shootout.

@kadajawi might view this with interest. I cant share the screenshots - it will be heavy.

Small engines - for good or worse..

The latest news on Honda's return to Formula 1 just reminded me of the new rule the FIA announced in 2010.

That the 2.4L V8s are to be replaced with 1.6L V6 turbocharged engines. I think its great. I am familiar with older compact V6 technology thanks to my old Eunos 1.8V6..lelelele.

Anyway, that's not why I am sharing this, what I find most interesting is that while F1 goes in smaller engine direction, we are already seeing a shift in development of new cars where smaller engines will are making headways.

Ford has the Ecoboost 3 cylinder (1.0 in Fiesta and Ecosport SUV) and 4 cylinders small engines (1.5 in Mondeo and 1.6 in the Kuga) in some of their cars. BMW is soon to release a 3 cylinder B38 1.5L engine for the 1 series.

Volkswagen group did a number with their 1.4 TFSI engines a while back. Peugeot has a 3 cylinder 1.0L and 1.2L engines for the 208 (which we may not see it here).

So far it's just big boys for now but expect to see smaller ones follow suit as well. One day, maybe Proton also.

But what I dont understand is that some of us a quick to shoot down smaller engine technology. I've been reading through some post here in the F&F and more often than not I find a large number of adverse opinions concerning reliability/durability and power. I am actually for one, is looking forward to see how smaller engines can perform through applications in larger vehicles, the Ford Mondeo 1.5 for example. the plus point for me, cheaper road tax and the efficiency promise. Sometimes I think there are too many of use spoilt by T & H reliability that we are scared of new things.

Maybe if T & H started this earlier, we would accept it differently..

I guess with F1 going with the smaller engine route will be good start to see how this will work.

Impending Fuel Hike?

Just landed in KLIA a couple of hours ago and was welcomed by some buzz on fuel price increase.

Shit man...thought here we go again but unfortunately could not find any credible source.

Then I found this piece Ron 95 & 97 - No Inrease in Pump Price. It was apparently a rumour..Phew !

Now although there's no increase in fuel price for now, I am sure it will happen sooner. Question is how soon and what margin of increase should we expect.

If only the public transportation was efficient enough so that people could drive less and safe fuel.

oh...by the way...is it me or the Gardenia big loaf went up in price?

Great looking Carens

My eyes almost did a number on me when I saw this..

No...not the girl but the car...for a moment i thought it looked like a B-Class..

Kia has been coming out with some great looking cars, you can see it from the K3, K5 and now the Carens..

Most of us would remember the very unappealing first generation Carens which progressively got better with the third generation Rondo...now this new Carens looks far away from all three in terms of design.

For a moment i thought the third row was removed but the video in source article shows it's still there..Awesome...and it looks so compact. Check it out - 2013 Kia Carens

We have another Frenchie spyshot today and looks like the Citroen DS4 Dsport is heading for launch soon.

Not sure how our perception of Citroen fares but ever since Naza took over the brand, they seem to be doing a pretty good job in reviving the brand. Model offerings has been expanded, a more hip brand outlook is being adopted.. since they have to work hard to regain confidence in the brand.

This car in the picture is going against the like of the Pug 308 and VW Golf...looks like the hatch lovers are going to have great time comparing between these hatchies

Viva Replacement In Progress

Since the Viva is based on the 6th generation Mira, maybe the new one will be based on the 7th generation Mira..

Looks like the peugeot 208 is coming soon. A paultan.org report shows two version, 2 door and 4 door spotted in Putrajaya.

Wonder when the launch is going to happen. This is going to be a good year for car lovers..we are seeing many new models coming in. If only the prices are cut sooner..haih
