New Sound System Set

Hi all,

I'm looking to get a new sound system set for my parent's house. The old one (5.1 HTIB Pioneer, at least 13 years old) is completely busted.

Haven't really set a budget because undecided if should get a separate AVR + speaker or get a budget HTIB first and change it later. But ideally around RM2-2.5K if going the AVR + speaker route I suppose.

Is it possible to get an AVR + 2.0/2.1 Speaker set with that budget (ideally all new items)? For AVR the only requirement would be to have at least 3 input and can support up to 5.1. Are there any suggestion to achieve this?

Supposedly, if going the HTIB route is okay for now, is there any suggestion on what I should get (ideally as low priced as possible while being somewhat decent)?

Thanks in advance.

Saving while working in NZ

Asking for my partner (26F). She just finished her degree here in Malaysia and will be heading to NZ with her parents. She hopes to work there while staying with them for 1-2 years before moving out. The aim is to eventually move to Singapore (unsure yet) work there and then retire in Malaysia.

Both of us can't find anything similar to EPF in NZ. Are there anything like that over there? Anyone who's currently working in NZ can share their experience please?

Another thing, would it be possible for her to open a EPF account and possible a SSPN account before going to NZ and put in a small amount every month?

For this part, we have 2 doubts:
1. Is it possible to open EPF account without a job in Malaysia or job offer? If yes, can she do it in the self-service terminal? If no, what can she do?
2. For SSPN, can she open it for herself (she might/might not continue studies)? and also is there an age limit to open SSPN account (asking for her elder brother 32M)?

Thank you.
Question about Job

Currently working in a company [joined July 2022, probation 6 months until December 2022]. When given the job was told that chances to continue working can be low but got chance (I know confusing); so went for an interview last week and was provided with an offer [pending final confirmation based on background check]. The new job if it were to start, will begin in Jan 2023. Some doubts:

1. If the current company were to offer me to continue, would they give me/talk about it when the probation is ending (like last week of Dec?) or do companies typically let you know earlier?

2. If I'm joining the new company, do I have to tender my notice around end of November, so that my last day will be end of December? or it's not required because the probation is ending? This is assuming if there aren't any talks of extending etc.

Thank you.

Question about BEM registration

Hi,

I would like to clarify something regarding BEM Graduate Engineer registration.

1. For creating a new account [in order to submit application], it says enter name as per IC but slash (/) isn't permitted. Do I forgo the A/L A/P?

2. The supporting document required mentioned Degree Scroll. Is this the certificate that is provided along with the official transcript? I was given two document (A certificate and a document mentioning completion of course) along with the official transcripts, do I submit both the documents?

3. Asking this for a friend. A Malaysian (grew up overseas) finished studies here and will be heading back. Does he/she need to register as BEM Engineer as well?

Thank you.
Searching for Job in Singapore

Good day everyone.

I'm chemical engineering graduate (Malaysian), newly graduated. Currently, I'm working as a trainee Process Engineer-cum-Quality Engineer in a palm oil mill. I planned on working here till end of the year [end of my probational period] before trying to go the Singapore. Meanwhile, I'm self learning programming and related things as I do want to eventually transition into tech field.

Recently my dad got laid off his job. Dad says it's fine for a couple of months but it's pretty obvious its straining. So, I think it's best I just try to get a job in Singapore and help out.

There's a lot going on my mind. There's opinion that I should apply for any chemical related job. Some opinion are that since i do want to eventually transition into tech field, I could start out with some entry level jobs. Though I'm kinda conflicted about which job positions I should apply for. I would also appreciate if there's specific role/companies that I should look into.

I also have other concerns such as:
- what are the chance of me getting job in Singapore?
- What salary could I realistically get?

Another issue is in regards with rental, if and when I get an offer. I came to know that renting out the Indians are quite difficult [mainly due to the issue of cooking curry and lighting up incense]; I'm okay with not cooking curry and I don't light incense. Is there any way to, like make it easier to get a rental. And supposed if an offer is made and couldn't get rental in time, what options are there?

I'm kinda desperate and appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

Renewing Expired License

Hi,

My cousin forgot to renew her driving license (supposed to update from PDL to CDL). It expired on the April of 2021 but she read it wrongly previously and thought it mentioned April of 2022. Instead of it being expired for 2 months (as she assumed), its been a year and 2 months. She has been driving regularly though.

Can she just renew her license or do she have to do some extra steps?

Looking For Internship in Nilai

Hi,

I'm currently doing chemical engineering course in Nilai and am looking to apply for internship. The most recommended place seems to be Topglove, to which I applied. However, I would like to apply for a few more if possible just in case.

Does anyone here have done internship in Nilai or know which companies that might accept a chemical engineering intern? I'm am searching for some using google map and checking the companies.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

When I asked how do I get the activation key from the Shop, they said the code is embedded into the board, so when I install Windows 10, it'll be activated automatically. Is this correct? Is there other way I can find the key, just as a precaution?

Thanks.

Buying Used Dell/Lenovo Server

I'm looking to replace my Raspberry Pi with something better. Searches led me to Intel NUC. Even the cheapest one seems to be several time more powerful that raspberry pi.

However, there were also recommendations online regarding used servers like Lenovo Edge SFF and Dell Optiplex. I look through them in lelong mostly, and found them to be priced almost as much as an intel nuc.

An 3rd Gen i5, 4GB server + 120GB ssd equals almost to the intel nuc + 4GB + 120GB SSD.

One difference is power consumption, though, I'm okay as long as the max idle power of the rig is around 50W or lower. Another difference would be using a 3.5" HDD. With the server, I can just slot in. With the NUC, either get a dock or external enclosure.

In that case, would buying the server be a good option?

Budget-wise about RM850 max.

Any suggestions/opinion on this matter?

Thanks.
